Chapter 2: Farming

Hmmm!

Vincent. So he is the sacrifice this time, an average young hunter with an Intermediate rank. He possesses an aspect that seems useless, but he compensates with a sharp intellect and proficiency in swordsmanship. With no friends, deceased parents, and no relatives, he appears to be the perfect candidate. I hope he manages to survive for at least a week or two.

Bzzzzz!

Oh my god, that buzzing sound is so frustrating. I wasn't even asleep. It must be a bug. Maybe I can win if I launch a surprise attack.

Bzzzz! Bzzzz!

There are more of them. I hold my breath, listening intently. The noise persists for an hour or two. Gathering my courage, I cautiously peek outside. As expected, there are moth-like insects. They are white with black eyes, about the size of a street dog. My courage quickly fades, and I retreat to my hiding spot.

In the morning, when the buzzing subsides, I venture out stealthily. I take deep breaths, trying to calm myself. I eat some cactus jelly to satiate my hunger. I'm not sure if it's edible, but I have no other options.

While descending, I notice eggs on the ground. They are orange with black stripes or dots. It's time for some farming. I summon my sword and start harvesting.

DING! DING! DING! DING! DING!

Now, let's check my STATUS.

Soul Core: (73/500)

NOTIFICATION:

You have slain 48 intermediate rank beasts!

It took me nearly 5 hours to clean up the cactus and gather a total of 247 kills. After that, I decide to move on. Along the way, I come across a large group of cacti. I work diligently until evening, and my soul core reaches 499. I could certainly kill more, but ranking up takes time, so I decide against it.

Today, I found three types of eggs, but I choose to collect only the moth eggs. For the night, I select a cactus in the center that I haven't touched before. Tonight is going to be chaotic.

During the night, there are several clashes among the bugs. The moths attack the others, but luckily, I'm far away from them. Even in the morning, the buzzing sound continues.

After cautiously searching for the source, I discover some bugs lying on the ground. Without wasting any time, I dash towards them. Among the corpses of its kin, I find a struggling moth with torn and battered wings. Swiftly, I thrust my sword into its eye and quickly retreat to a safe distance from the dying bugs.

NOTIFICATION:

You have slain an Intermediate rank 2 beast.
