seven day challenge

"Will you still say yes if I ask you to go out with me." He stared at me with those beautiful hazel eyes. He squinted, his eyebrows were slightly creased. "Define go out." I was a bit surprised. "Uhmm.. just go out?" "Like a date?"  "Yeah?" "How many?"  "What?"  "How many dates?" Okay. That was unexpected. I was just hoping for one date and let everything run it's course. "Seven?"

day three: Ivan's idea of a date

He narrated Snow White and the Seven dwarfs. I pity myself when he started to read. His voice was so melodic and mesmerizing, the kids paid attention to him in no time.

The more I know him, the more I see my flaws. Well, whatever.

I sank into a chair suddenly feeling tired. My body cannot keep up with me anymore. I sighed.

Jaycee came to the part where the seven dwarfs journey home, singing hi-ho. When he started to chant, the children chanted with him. It was a sight. I was really glad I brought him here. I hope he'll keep volunteering here, because obviously, the kids love him better.

I'm talking like an old man, haha.

I felt a hand on my shoulders. Sharmaine, one of the shelter's administrators, settled down beside me.

"Thanks for bringing him here." She said. "You have been volunteering with us for almost a year but this was the first time you brought someone. He's perfect."

I smiled at her. "Yup." I said proudly. "He can probably replace me soon."

She frowned at me. "Are you planning on leaving soon?

I shook my head. "No, I prefer not to leave actually."

"Good, we don't always have good people around." She stood up. "Well then I would expect you next week?"

I just smiled in response.

The story ended before I even noticed. Jaycee was seated on the floor playing with Oliver and a few others. Seven kids circle him singing hi-ho. I pulled out my phone and snapped a photo. It was too cute to resist. Jaycee waved at me to join in, so I did.

I hope time freezes. I was having so much fun I wish I could stay this way. I'd gladly read books to these kids everyday even if I lose my voice. Even if I'd read all of brother's Grimm's books, I'd even read them the Harry Potter series. My heart swells with emotions and my eyes were welling. I felt Jaycee hands in mine as he squeezed it lightly.

"You ok?" He asked. I gave him a smile and nodded.

Sharmaine sat down with us and gave me and Jaycee a nod. "Let's go children." She started. "Say thank you to Ivan and Jaycee."

The children gave us each a hug, I even got a kiss on the cheek from Oliver. This is what making volunteering worthwhile. Definitely

"I really enjoyed this." Jaycee said when we were in his car. "I enjoyed this more than feeding the oldies, no offense."

"But the oldies loved you though."

"I know." He laughed. "I'd volunteer again if you'd let me come with you next time."

I felt the blood drained from my face. My chest was pounding, my head was hurting and a lump is forming in my throat.

"I gotta tell you something."

"Why so serious?" When he turned to me, his face grew worried. "What's wrong?"

I sighed. "I'll let you know."
