16 Chapter 15 - Mysterious Plan

"My mother said she didn't know of a way to break the barrier around the child, without killing her I mean." Cebrail states to Reginleif who was looking around her room with wide eyes.

While it was a positively huge room it didn't feel that way due to the amount of stuff that was cluttering the place.

Toys, games, trinkets, books, clothes, and various other items were all over. The only places that didn't have stuff were a few paths that twisted around the place haphazardly.

"Normally I'd call uncle Michael to use his ability 'Sacred Gear Editor' on it but he isn't answering his phone. He must be busy with the impending peace treaties because my mom is terrible at her job." She casually insulted her mothers work ethic like it was nothing without minding her own poor efforts.

"Then we'll have to find another way to wake her up?" Reginleif asks finally looking away from the mess and towards Cebrail.

"Oh I already thought of a way. For now we'll just relax here and train until the time comes." Cebrail responds casually.

"Really you already thought of a way? What is it?"

"It's something we may need to be a bit stronger to pull off. Don't worry about it too much..." Cebrail paused as if she just thought of something else to say. "Do you have any binding spells by chance?"

"You mean like Stone Cage?"

"No like, magic chains or handcuffs or something."

"Oh... I think I can manage something like that."

"I see, let's start by testing the strength. Try it on me." Cebrail lifted her hands with her wrists together in preparation to be handcuffed.

"Alright..." Reginleif was a bit hesitant however she casted a minor binding spell which bound both of Cebrail's hands by her wrists.

Instantly Cebrail broke them with a single tug.

"..." Cebrail stared at her wrists then looked at Reginleif as if she thought the Valkyrie might be joking.

(I should have know she could just break any magic bindings using her raw magical power alone...) Reginleif thought putting another stronger binding with an awkward laugh.

Yet again the bindings broke with minuscule effort.

"..."

"..."

The two stared at one another and Cebrail raised an eyebrow.

"Sometimes these things happen Reginleif, no need to feel embarrassed." Cebrail tried comforting Reginleif but this only sparked a bit of competitiveness in her heart.

"Epis, we'll try it on her first!" Reginleif announced grabbing the small creature from Cebrail's head. From seeing it enter and exit her hair Reginleif knew by this point where exactly it hid.

She put a binding spell on Epis but the creature also simply shook it off.

"..."

"..."

"It's fine I'll just figure something else out..."

Reginleif blushed, "D-Don't look at me with so much pity!"

"Here try testing on this." Cebrail held a Roygun plushie up, presenting it to Reginleif.

"Is that a Devil?"

"Not just any Devil, Roygun Belphegor the second strongest rating game player."

"Why would an Angel-"

"She's really cool you know. Her fighting style is so efficient yet elegant, she wastes no movement in a fight unless it's to make fun of her opponent. Such style isn't found often in this clumsy world."

"Err..."

"I bought a bunch of her merchandise. It's the only thing I usually use my money on." Cebrail despite her unchanging tone sounded like she was gushing about an idol.

"What about everything else in here?" Reginleif asked a bit jokingly, trying to have a bit of fun with this new more normal side of Cebrail.

Cebrail looked around and seemed genuinely surprised by the mess. "Usually it's cleaner, it's just me and my mom were searching for games to play."

Cebrail actually seemed a bit embarrassed by the state of her room based on her excuse. "Anything that isn't Roygun Merchandise was a gift from someone else."

"A gift? Like from your mom?"

"My mom, maids, stuff randomly sent by Angels, stuff from people who pray to my mother and get help from me. So on and so forth. No matter where I go free stuff just tends to follow me."

"Why keep all of this stuff then? Doesn't it look bad for an Angel to seem so materialistic?"

"...They were gifts... I can't just throw them away. That would be rude." Cebrail was being honest. It was the same in her past life as well, often she'd be given gifts by people for helping them and as appreciation for the work she did as an enforcer. She didn't need any of the stuff but she kept it anyways, it would be wrong to just throw away someone's sincerity wouldn't it? That's what she thought at least.

"Oh I get it. That's actually pretty nice." Reginleif admitted. Cebrail's soft side was so different from her normal calm and confident demeanor, yet at the same time it didn't feel particularly out of place like it was always there but could only be noticed sometimes. "Hey Cebrail... why are you helping me with Avalon?"

Reginleif asked this while looking down at her fingers which were twirling around one another nervously.

Cebrail took a long time to answer, however when she finally did it was simple but Reginleif couldn't understand it. "I felt as though if I hadn't you would have fallen into despair."

"Plus I don't need a little girl's death on my conscience."

"Oh I see..."

Cebrail looked towards the closed door where behind it her mother and Adriel were talking and found herself frowning. Previously she had no idea what the cause of her condition was when it came to her light power being so exhausting to use however now she had a pretty massive clue.

If she learned magic it might just get better, then she wouldn't have to worry about it being a weakness in the future when fighting stronger opponents.

One week later at the Sitri estate a young girl with short black hair and violet eyes was sitting at a small table in her room pondering a letter that was in front of herself.

"How old is Cebrail to be sending me LETTERS of all things..." She said sarcastically, still however she picked up the letter and opened it calmly by breaking the wax seal.

Reading it her eyes shifted from minor excitement to complete confusion in a manner of seconds. "Well... I'd better let my sister have a look at this."

Standing up she went to the door and opened it and called out to a nearby maid.

"Is my sister here?" She asked, getting a polite nod in response.

It didn't take her long to make her way to her sister's office where she knocked on the door and waited for only a second before the door was opened revealing her older sister. Serafall Leviathan the ultimate female Devil.

"Sonaaa~" The ultimate female Devil hugged her little sister tightly while cooing her name in an almost mother-like fashion. "What brings you here today? Did you miss your big sister~"

"L-Let go of me sister!" Sona tried pushing off of her older sister but understandably the difference in strength was staggering.

"Hmm? What's this?" Serafall let go of Sona and somehow had the letter from Cebrail in her hand.

"Eh?"

"Oh? I had thought you two hit it off but exchanging letters? Sona~"

"W-What are you trying to say? This is the first time she's sent me a letter..."

"Mhmm~"

The letter was quite simple. It greeted Sona and told her that she'd be coming to visit soon. Then it said she had a favor to ask of Serafall that she'd have to ask about in person which is why Sona felt that she should bring it to her sister. Finally the last bit of it was pretty strange, she apologized saying that she'd make up for it if Sona got in trouble for what she was about to do.

"Hm, I think she's planning something." Serafall said after reading it.

"I wonder what gave you that idea." Sona responded sarcastically.

"Well whatever it is it'll probably be fine." Serafall made a point to ignore her cute little sister's words.

"Don't you find it kind of weird though? She's not usually the type to ask people for favors..." Sona unlike her sister was a bit worried she knew Cebrail better than Serafall did so she thought either the Angel might do something relatively harmless or completely insane while claiming it to be "the best choice available." Sona knew the girl thought far more like an Angel than she did a human, and that meant if she actually felt the need to apologize preemptively it could only mean she was planning something that even she would have a hard time making an excuse for.

"It'll be fineee~" Serafall responded to her sister's worries with another hug brushing off the possibility of anything bad happening.

Unfortunately she would soon find that Sona's worries were not at all unfounded.
