Torn Wyrn

Torn and Nathan arrived back at their base, passing by Kah Mal. Kah Mal stopped, staring at them briefly, before shrugging and walking away to whatever business he had to attend. Torn took no notice of him, only heading straight for the building. They climbed up the stairs to the boss's office. Without knocking, Torn barged in, meeting the man in a conversation with two women. One of the women had brown hair and lazy blue eyes. The other had black hair, wore glasses over her menacing brown eyes. They both wore the same outfit, a suit underneath a brown winter coat.

"Mr. Wyrn," Mr. Hunter said, "I believe the courtesy is to knock."

"Never gave a damn about it." Torn said, walking straight past the two women. They were strong, Torn could tell, but they weren't his business.

"Heard that you wanted to see me."

"Yes, I did. But you decided to really take your time."

"I did." Torn said with a smile, "Had a great time."

"With a gifted," Mr. Hunter noticed, "her bright energy is still lingering around you."

Her? Torn knew no one had spied on him, he'd have noticed. The boss already knew about this particular gifted. But how? Or why?

"Where is she, by the way?"

"Don't know."

"What?" The glasses lady exclaimed. "What do you mean by you don't know."

Torn ignored her.

"Someone protected her from you, huh?" Mr. Hunter leaned forward, "Quite a shallow cut. A boy, a young one at that."

"Hmm"

"You're slacking, Mr. Wyrn."

"I'm getting older."

"Aren't we all?"

Torn smiled.

"Now, back to business," Mr. Hunter cleared his throat, "I've already deployed a spy on Ms. Wat…"

The move was too swift for the two women, or Nathan to follow. Torn's fist had already connected with the table, creating a hole in it.

"YOU WHAT?"

The lady with glasses pointed a dagger at him. The brown haired one pointed a trident. Nathan drew out a knife.

"Stand down!" The glasses lady said with sternness in her voice.

"We can end you." The brown haired lady said.

Torn still ignored them. "Are you treating her as a traitor? She is one of the oldest and best members of the Orca."

"Exactly why she must be monitored. She has been slacking off her duties as well as not reporting regularly. She has been seen multiple times in the Lower Half territory. What proof do you want?"

"I won't fall for this"

The blades at his neck began to draw blood. Torn still took no notice of them.

"Mr. Wyrn. We are not branding her as a criminal. We are only saying that her actions, of late are suspicious. We just want to make sure that she is falling in line that is all."

The two men stared at each other for a full minute. Torn stood up and turned to leave. Nathan withdrew his knife and followed suite.

"Oh and I would like to discuss something with Nathan shortly after. He can come in after a few minutes."

Nathan looked at Torn. Torn nodded and the two walked out.

"Such unconcern." Ivy Robbs said

"Even in the face of a trident." Mavis, the brown haired woman stated.

"The strongest of the people here could rival some of the most powerful gifted, Mavis and Ivy. They are bred that way."

"Still though, that poor girl, out there in the streets."

"She's with someone," Mr. Hunter said, "Someone strong and fearless. Or someone smart. Now then, shall we discuss the real matters at hand?"

Torn looked at the boy that sat there all alone. His name was Devon, something close to that. He looked outside, yearning for the freedom of the other unaffiliated kids running loose outside. He'd seen that look in his eyes. It was in the eyes of the twins, Jenny and Jenna, in the eyes of Nathan too, years ago, when he first met him. And in the eyes of many others children he'd seen being 'initiated' into the Orca.

His mind was probably on his mother, why she hadn't come for him, or why she hadn't tried. Most likely she had moved on, or she was waiting for someone to save her dear child.

But that kind of stuff didn't happen here. Not in this town. They were reserved for those who lived outside this hell.

"Hey kid." Torn called. The boy turned, wiping the tears off his face.

"Where's the girl who was watching you?"

"You mean Parya?"

"Where is she?"

"She said she needed a break." Obviously he could see why. Who'd want to take care of a crybaby?

Torn headed towards the entrance.

"Nathan." He said, turning to him. "Don't do anything I won't do."

"I'm not stupid enough to try, sir." Nathan said.

Torn smiled, before walking out of the base.
