1 Chapter 1. Loss

Life was so beautiful.

Well, it probably still is.

If you just look around, it is not so hard to find the beauty of the world.

There is just so much to experience and see.

Nature, which is a natural and beautiful creation. From lying in the grass, seeing a butterfly under the warm sun in spring to seeing a moonlit waterfall on a hike during summer vacation.

Accompanied by people, who are so kind hearted, from your family to the friends you make along the way. People, who have created so many things, which allows us to live in cities surrounded by the art known as architecture.

And I don't know why, but food just brings everyone joy. The warmth and comfort you get from eating it with the people you love. And the smell and nostalgia from something like a freshly made apple pie of grandma.

These are just some things that we take for granted in our lives, which not everyone gets to enjoy.

No, I am not talking about being able to talk to people, having the luxury to live in a city or being able to eat an apple pie.

I am talking about seeing the world, hearing, smelling, tasting and just feeling.

Most people take their senses for granted. And rightfully so.

But, when I was born, I was diagnosed with a rare disease, which only had a few precedents.

This disease caused me to slowly lose most of my senses.

Sight, which I used to learn about the world, suddenly lost when I was only 5 years old and needed them the most.

This was just the first of many senses that I lost that made my life just a little more dull.

My loss of sight was later accompanied by the loss of smell,

Loss of taste,

And lastly, loss of hearing.

When I lost those senses I thought that was the last of it. And I was content with it, just living my life to the best of my ability.

I could still read using braille, learn about the world and I could still be part of the world.

And most importantly, I could still feel the warmth of the people around me, the people I love most, my parents.

So my life went on like that and I was happy.

But suddenly on just a normal day when I was reading using braille, I suddenly couldn't feel the letters anymore.

Everything suddenly got even darker than before and I couldn't feel anything anymore.

I couldn't feel the temperature of the book, the room and I couldn't even feel my body anymore...

Did I fall asleep?

Is this a dream?

What is going on?

Wait...

Did I just lose my sense of touch?

I literally can't sense anything.
