Chapter Thirteen

I get home , Ikenna is in the living room with Laura and another man I don't know of.

"Did you ask my mother?" I repeat my question

"Isn't she a mistress of this house? Does she need permission to do things?" The man asked.

"I'd say this once, I hate you and I won't hesitate to kill you" I tell her.

"Same goes for you" He is looking at me with lustful eyes, can't men control themselves?.

Going up to my room, I stop my the kitchen first, taking a cereal box and the smallest knife I could find.

I keep the knife under my pillow, haven't heard from Gab and Charlly in a while, but I leave them be, we are all preparing for our finals.

I'm in the kitchen preparing my lunch, I feel a presence behind me and I spin around, Dave, Laura's brother is standing behind me.

"What do you want?" I ask.

"Knife" he points at the knife on the table next to me

He leans in too close for comfort, staring at my face, when he lingers for too long I push him away

"Know your limits" I say. He puts his hand up in mock surrender, winking at me before leaving. I release the tight hold I have on the knife I'm holding.

Ikenna was out with some friends and Laura wasn't home. It was just I and Dave. I avoided him too, he threw lustful looks at me and used any little thing to touch me. It made me feel disgusted.

I'm doing the dishes when someone cups my ass, I turn my hand flying and landing on his cheek.

"I swear the next time you try to touch me, that would be the last thing you'd touch". Hissing I angrily March up to my room

Its late when I finally fall asleep.

My door opening wakes me up. I forgot to lock it earlier. It clicks shut and I see the figure of someone slowly walk to my bed. I switch on my bed lamp. Its Dave. His eyes bloodshot.

"What are you doing here?" I ask. Slowly reaching for the knife under my pillow.

"Get out, I'd scream" I open my mouth but he lunges at me, clamping the shut with his hands.

My screams are muffled and I'm thrashing about. I scratch his face and he slaps me.

"Be quiet" He lunges at me again, but I'm quicker, the knife buried in his chest. His eyes are wide open. He tries to speak but no word comes out. He falls on my bed. I push his corpse from my bed, it lands on the floor with a thud, washing the blood of my hands I stare at his lifeless body. Then I scream.

Ikenna was fast to come, he rushes to me when he sees the body. Laura screams about me killing her brother, but not about what he tried to do.

The police is here

"We'd have to take her into custody" one says

"But she did it as self defence" Mother argued

"She committed murder"

"Take her away" Laura screamed.

"Baby, don't worry, we'd get you out" mother assured. I nodded entering the van.

My court case was in a week. But due to the fact I was writing exams and it was in self defence, I was let out till the case, but I was put on probation. From home to school back home. No where else.

"And to think she can kill someone"

" she doesn't look remorseful "

Cause I'm not. School went on normally. Till the court Morning. Mother got the best lawyer she could find.

Father was siding with laura, no surprise there.

The trial starts, my heart is hammering in my heart cause I know father bribed the judge.

My lawyer came up first, explaining everything that happened, I zoned out of the trial, to my safe place.

My lawyer nudged me.

"What?"

"Would the accused please stand" The judge repeated and I do.

"Do you swear by the bible to say the truth and nothing but the truth" palm placed on the bible I sweared.

"What happened that night"

" I woke up because I felt someone in my room, I turned on my bed lamp and I saw it was Dave I told him to leave, I'd scream if he doesn't , he attacks me and he hit me, he has his hands covering my face to prevent me from screaming,struggling I get one hand free from his grasp and I stab him "

"So he was holding you" No

"Yes"

"And you decided to use it at the last minute"

I thought of killing him ever since

"Yes"

"Did you or did you not threaten to kill him earlier"

"I did"

"Why?"

"I saw the lustful look he gave me, I said it to scare him but it didn't"

"My lord she also threatened my employer"

"That is none of my business, we are here to judge her murder case and thats it" The judge dismissed.

"Has the jury reached a verdict?"

They whispered amongst themselves

"Yes, and she is not guilty"

"The accused has been proven not guilty and this case closed" I breathed a sigh of relief.

He stood to leave.

Charlly jumped on me from behind taking us both down laughing. Gab hugged me tapping my back.

Mother was crying and Ikenna consoled her, at least it was tears of joy.

I looked at father, he was furious, Laura clinged by his side. I chose my family and they weren't among the list
