1 Happy Ending

Her luminous smile and his adoring gaze were the spoilers. It was all a cliché, a typical scene that many have seen hundreds of times. The future married couple was about to merge their souls through a holistic oath—a suffocating scene with no plot twist.

And she was there trying to explain to her heart that it ended.

"Beloved children, if there is anyone who objects to this wedding, speak now or—"

"I object!" her vocal cords desperately erupted through her ragged breath in the holy vicinity. Her hopeless eyes mirrored the ghost she has become.

He stood there in the aisle. Handsome as she remembered. His pretty hazel orbs addressed her with disdain and his brown eyebrows tensed together—a monotonous reminder that he despised her. But it was fair, she had done atrocious things against the winner in the battle for his love.

"Who gives you the right to come to Yimo's wedding after bullying her so much!" Her heart sank with the groom's cold tone. The love of her life was marrying, and the bride was not her. That fact burnt her down like a heart-wrenching emotional purgatory.

"Zhan Ai Lin, do you still have a face?!"

She lost. She bet everything she had for him, and—she lost. He had already bankrupted her company and imposed fake tax evasion as proof of her righteous devastation.

And yet...yet...

Jing Shanyuan was still the man who drove her heart out of her chest and pushed her to be an egoist for his love like a frantic clown.

"Why do you hate Yimo so much? You cannot compare to her. Why have you not given up!?" Jing Shanyuan's fierce voice yanked her fragile and dying heart. He truly loathed her.

Zhan Ai Lin dry lips curved upwards. This was supposed to be her day. They made a promise at birth—destined to marry each other. Childhood sweethearts fell short of their relationship label. It has been always the two of them since long before they could articulate their first word.

But suddenly, she was not his bride anymore.

Now there was overwhelming pain, a suffocating tempest lynching her soul, again and again. Her intuition never failed. This would end badly for her, yet at his wedding, she revealed herself as envious, selfish, and impulsive without restraints.

There was only heartsickness, pure pain took over her. "Yes. I detest her. How can I not hate the mere secretary that stole my fiancé?"

Jing Shanyuan's murderous gaze was directed at her. She felt like she had placed herself under the Russian roulette. As if the love of her life was holding her at gunpoint.

The groom strode forward, shortening their distance. It had been a while since she saw more than his brief side profile.

Before Jing Shanyuan said something to her, another interceded in their confrontation. "I know you hate me, but I still respect you as my superior. I apologized, but Shan and I love each other," The bride's gracious face contoured pity towards her.

Zhan Ai Lin once again faced the woman that her former fiancé devoted with fervor. She looked all pretty in the dress she once selected for her wedding.

Can it be alright when that woman has everything she had and wished for? Is it really fine?

"Why her?" Zhan Ai Lin questioned the groom. "Is she such a good bed-warm—" she could not finish her sentence because she was there—broken on the floor, still asking him why...

The slap ricocheted on Ai Lin's heart, it made her bleed. There was not a word in the dictionary that could change Jing Shanyuan's opinion. That was her role, to lose against the woman he loved and be the villain of their mythical love. Perhaps, that was the spoiler.

"I had enough of your fake theater." This time, there was no indication of his annoyance. The groom collected his nerves and carefully signaled security to take her out.

Two big men overpower her, each on her left and right side. They brusquely took her and dragged her out.

For the first time, she did not struggle against such orders neither she screamed. She just was completely shattered.

Numb.

Zhan Ai Lin's silent tears ran freely once outside the holy vicinity. She not only lost her lover, but her whole life. Many of her former employees came to this wedding and sat in the exact place she planned for her own wedding. Those same bodyguards that escorted her out once worked for her sole protection.

She was aggravated, sad, empty, and tired.

Not long after Zhan Ai Lin felt a sharp pain in her head and everything dimmed out.

At some point, she was semi-awakened in an unrecognized place just to understand there was more pain beneath despair. She could not accept this betrayal. Not even her heart could feel the numbness or sense the bullet piercing deep into her skin. Burning from head to toe caused Zhan Ai Lin to hallucinate the man that sent her to her dismay. She was destined to be disappointed. He was not hers and never would be.

Zhan Ai Lin, the legendary businesswoman, a genius with numerous achievements under her belt perished right there and then. The reason, a catastrophic love affair ripped her from the pinnacle of life. Unfortunately, she paid for it with death.
