Tears

Music Recommendation: You don't know by Katelyn Tarver

"You useless girl" a woman in her late thirties cursed as she kicks the stomach of a young girl who curls up on the ground with every hit she receives,

The girl is olive in complexion. Her dark hair sweeps the ground as she jolts with every hit. Her lips are chapped and pink. Not only that, but her brown eyes were filled with pain, but she shut her eyes as tears rolled down her cheeks.

She looks thin and malnourished. Her head felt like it would shatter if another hit came to it, but after a second, she felt no additional hit on her.

She slowly opens her eyes, but before they could be completely open, two hands grab her arm and lift her to her feet. The girl stares into the eyes of the lady who has caused her pain ever since she can remember.

"What did you tell him?" the roaring, angry voice of the woman sounded in and out of her ears,

The young girl blinks a couple of times and is about to open her mouth to speak when a resounding slap hits both her cheeks, and she falls to the ground on her buttocks.

Before she could understand what happened, the woman grabs her again and lifts her to her feet, stares into her eyes and pushes her forward.

She staggers back before falling to the ground and curls up again as her entire world is spinning. She takes a glance a few feet away from where she is, some children standing side by side together; four young boys and two girls on the verge of crying. One of the girls looks exactly like the young girl staring at them.

The last thing she remembers before her eyes shut close is a sharp pain on her back as the lady kicks her and walks off.

After several hours,

The young girl opens her eyes feeling cold, wet and hurting all over her body. It was raining heavily, and she tries to pull herself up, but her body could not.

She tries a couple of times to no avail, and she shuts her eyes, drifting far and far away from her body.

After a minute, she feels pulled and tries opening them, but the bright light makes her shut them back and slowly opens them. She darts her eyes around, still unable to move her body.

The room was brightly lit. The window was left open, and she could see a few people walking past the room. She tries to move her hand and feels a sharp pain in her wrist.

Taking her gaze there, she finds a thin pipe linking her hand to that of a blood bag hung on a pole. "Hospital?" she thought

The door to her ward creaks open, and she quickly shuts her eyes, pretending to be asleep, not knowing who was coming in to beat her this time.

"Doctor, would she be okay?" a masculine voice asked with hope laced in his voice,

Hearing the familiar voice, the young girl opens her eyes quickly. "Dad" she called out in a throaty tone,

A man putting on a black suit rushes to her side and holds her face. "My baby, daddy is here" he reassured

Another man putting on a long white coat with a file and pen in hand comes closer to examine the girl. The father stares at the doctor with hope-filled in his eyes.

The doctor nods. "She will be fine. I'll ask a nurse to come give her some drugs but in the meantime, get some food, she hasn't eaten anything for days" with that, the doctor leaves the ward

Her father places a kiss on her forehead and smiles at her. "Let me go and get you food"

She grabs his hand, holding it tight not wanting to let go. "Baby, I won't be long. You need to eat to process your drugs'' her father explained

After some minutes, the girl lets go of her father's hands. "Please come back quick" she pleaded almost in tears,

The man nods and walks out of the ward almost in tears. He wipes his face with a handkerchief and smiles at her through the window as he walks past, which she returns with pain in her eyes.

Not long after, a nurse comes in and gives her an injection. Once the drugs sip into her blood, she felt like shutting her eyes to rest, but she refused to do so until she was sure her dad had come back and was seated beside her,

She fought the drugs for some minutes, but the drugs eventually won and she slept. A second later, she feels a sharp pain around her wrist, and she whines, then opens her eyes only to be met with fiery black eyes that she has come to know over the years.

Her gaze falls on her wrist, and she finds cooling candle wax on it. She turns to the woman before her. The lady says, "What were you thinking of?"

"Mother, I-"

A slap hits the girl's face, shutting her mouth. "I've told you never to call me that. I'm not your mother" the woman yelled,

The girl nods, rubbing her cheeks. The lady shoves some money into the girl's hands. "Now go get me my drugs" the lady commanded

Without a word, the girl turns around and walks out of the house. The moon was out, and the sky was dark blue, revealing some stars.

The streets were lonely, but she was not bothered because she was used to going on errands late at night. She could see a shop lit up a distance away and was glad as the cold was slowly sipping into her system.

She is about to pass an alley when a hand covers her lips and pulls her into the alley that was pitch black, but she could feel that not one person was there with her.

The girl could not run as a hand held her in place. She is laid on the cold floor and that is the last she could remember as she shut her eyes.
