He tucked the photograph back into the file and checked his watch. It was only half-past eleven. Gideon and Emma were expecting him home around lunch, but they also thought he was shopping for books. They wouldn’t be surprised if he didn’t come in until closer to dark. Because if Gideon didn’t sense his unease, Emma would.

Jesse stood. He’d find Michelle’s books and, hopefully, by the time he made it back to the penthouse, he’d feel better.

It wasn’t the first time Gideon had woken up to only Emma in the bed with him. Jesse was notorious for waking early and slipping off to go work, and the absence of his body almost invariably woke Gideon up. But this time, he woke with her full breast in his hand and his erection nestled in her soft ass, and he was glad to have some time alone to be able to appreciate her heat.

The vampires the night before had done a real mindfuck on him. He knew Jesse thought his phone call was weird, but what was he supposed to tell him?
