Jesse sighed. “Last night, I tried to get him to tell me what was going on. Why he was suddenly so insistent you move in. He did admit Claudia reminded him of Mary. When I asked why, he essentially told me to mind my own damned business. I can’t even imagine what sort of reaction I’d get if I asked about whoever Hal is.” He paused. “Wait. Yes, I can. And I don’t think our vacation is a good time to pick that fight.”
“He’s never mentioned this Hal before?”
“No. He’s not even the one who told me about Mary. No doubt if he had his way, I wouldn’t even know the little bits and pieces I know now.”
“So, if you’re so curious about this Hal, can’t you find out about him the same way you found out about Mary?”
