Chapter 3: Mom?

As the weeks passed, my routine was almost the same every day, but I hadn't gotten any new notes. School was a piece of cake since I was ahead of everyone, which is the advantage of homeschooling. Things began to slowly change, I couldn't tell how exactly but I knew things were different. The green eyed boy happened to be everywhere I went unless I was with Rebecca or Gabe then he was nowhere in sight. During biology, he'd simply never look my way. I haven't decided if it bothered me or if I just didn't understand.

After class, Rebecca and I headed for lunch. She sat me down at a table and left to get lunch. I decided to buy a granola bar from the vending machine before she got back. I waited for Gabe and Liam to join us since it became routine. It was nice to be part of a group and to have friends.

My eyes landed on glowing green eyes, they were studying me. But all I found in return was an emptiness in his eyes they were hollow and sad. I left his eyes to study his face. His smooth skin hovered by his wavy brown hair. The hair on the back of my neck stood up from the chills I received just by looking at him. But all I could think was why? This was the first time I've seen him at lunch since I've arrived at this school. He was surrounded by so many people, but he seemed so lonely. I broke my gaze when I saw the boys arrive.

"Hey, where's Rebecca?" Liam asked as he took his seat next to Gabe's

"She went to get food."

"So how's the third week of high school treating you?" Gabe teased, but I didn't have an answer to it. Before I had a chance to get an answer out Rebecca joined the table and started to get into a deep conversation with the boys. I looked back at Logan but all his attention on Makayla.

"Do you guys know who Logan Blackstone is?" I asked.

Rebecca's expression changed to something unreadable. She slowly whispered something into Gabe's ear and he let out a light growl. Gabe's eyes hardened. I watched Rebecca put her hand on Gabe's arm, trying to calm him down. Liam kept his head down for a moment. At that minute the table became a war zone.

"I take it you guys don't get along?" Gabe let out an angry snort. He didn't meet my eyes, none of them did. Finally, after a small pause of silence, Liam spoke up still keeping his gaze down.

"Logan is...it's a family feud that goes way back."

"Why?"

"Just drop it!" Gabe shouted capturing the entire cafeteria's attention. Before I could apologize the bell rang, and in seconds Gabe was gone. I'm really starting to hate that stupid bell.

"Hey don't worry Gabe's going to be fine. He's just a bit touchy on the whole Logan issue. Let's just go to class." Liam gave me an apologetic smile and left, I let her drag me to class. After my last class, I left the room before Rebecca could stop me.

I didn't know where I was going. Somehow I wounded up in the west wing, on the fifth floor. I walked in and took a left around the corner I looked up and read the sign of the library. It looked abandoned probably since there was a new library on the third floor. Under the word library, there was something written in a different language.

"All who enters must be the ones who see-" I spun around, but there was no one in sight. I told myself I was just imagining it. I looked back at the sign trying to read it once more.

"When those around are blind." I spun around to find Gabe watching me. For a moment he just stood there and watched trying to analyze me. Before I realized it, he closed the distance between us. He slowly moved his face near my ear.

"I'm sorry I shouldn't have snapped at you like that." I felt his breath against my ear. I didn't know what to say, all I could do was stare into his eyes. They were closed books, unreadable. His lips were inches away, and I could feel this warm breath on mine. Part of me wanted him to close the gap, I wanted a taste of him.

I snapped my head away from his gaze listening to somebody clear their throat. Logan flinched away from me as if I were poison. I shook off the strange feelings, trying to convince myself I was just tired.

"No one's allowed here." His cold voice sent shivers down my spine. His presence seems to always find a way to startle me.

"And who put your ungrateful ass in charge?" Gabe snarled. Logan took a step forward grinning at the rage on Gabe's face.

"That's none of you damn business, just remember to keep your hands away from what's mine." Logan dragged his eyes to meet my confused eyes. He seemed surprised by the look on my face, but there was disappointment present. What the hell? I thought, he hates me. He continued to stare for a brief minute and then began to speak again eyeing Gabe.

"This place is off limits. You should already know that unless you need to be retaught."

"I'd like to see you even-" Gabe stopped in his tracks when Rebecca and Liam came into sight. The room was filled with anger and tension. I just couldn't take it anymore, they were so occupied in there stare off I found myself slip away. I ignored whoever was calling my name and ran to my bike.

I decided to go home early, letting Rebecca know I didn't feel well. She insisted on driving me home, I told her I could manage and if she missed class then who else would give me note. When I arrived I realized Alex Hunter's car parked. I let out a loud sigh, knowing an argument was coming.

I put my key and unlocked the front door. Walking in trying to be as silent as possible. That's when I heard his voice.

"Alex you have to tell her." I recognized that voice, but I couldn't put the puzzle pieces together.

"He's right Hunter, she has a right to know. We've kept this a secret far too long." Laura was the only person she called him by Hunter.

"I know, I know I'm just waiting." Alex cried in frustration.

"The hell you waiting for. She's been getting them.."

"Wait, someone's here. I'll call back later." Before I was able to move Alex and Laura spotted me with alarmed eyes. Laura walked passed Alex and embraced with her warm and caring arms. She tried to smile, but the smile didn't reach her eyes.

"Hey, Mia you're home early today. Is everything okay?" I just nodded unable to find the right words. I made my way to my room, staying in the entire night. Laura came up a few times to check up on me, I simply shrugged her off telling her I wasn't feeling well.

The next morning the house was quieter than usual. Alex Hunter wasn't in sight either. I made my way to the kitchen for an apple. I noticed a note on the fridge for Laura from Alex, which is weird. All it said is 6 pm sharp meeting with J.B.

I went outside and found a note under my motorcycle. I was just starting to believe the notes stopped, I guess I was wrong. This note was longer than the others.

We know sweetheart. We know what happened that night. Your freak of a mother deserved what she got, maybe you don't. Careful which side you pick...xoxoxo

The note started to slip out of my hand. The world started to darken, nothing but dark memories rained.

I collapsed.

"You have to help me!" The voice pulled me towards it. Slowly my body began to walk, I lost all control. The voice dragging me towards her, I had no control over my mindless body. My body stopped and the voice began to speak again.

"You are the only one who can stop them. The monsters have killed us all. The day before your turning goes to the forest. She'll lead you...I have to...go now..." I tried to call after her but the words didn't reach my mouth.

"Wake up, Eunomia please, please wake up." My eyes slowly peeled open. I slowly tried to sit up but once my head was up the room was spinning faster than a tornado.

"Take it easy." His soothing voice calmed my nerves. I realized my head was resting on Logan's lap again. I began registering everything that's happened.

"What time is it?" I asked, seeing the darkness outside.

"6:45"

"What are you doing here? How'd you even get inside?" Before Logan could answer Laura appeared in front of me.

"Mia, Logan found you unconscious outside and called me. We've all been here waiting for you to wake up. We were so scared, your father just stepped out for...a meeting."

"Where did you get this note?" It took me a few seconds to realize what note Logan was asking about. The voice was firm but the fear was still visible. I sat up feeling having more control over my body than before.

"It was under my tire. When I got out this morning I found under there." For the first time in a long time, I lost the battle against my tears. Laura came to my side and wrapped mine with her warm arms. I started sobbing, the next thing I know I cried myself to sleep. When my eyes opened I found myself all alone in my darkroom. I heard a door slam shut.

"They know," Laura spoke softly making it harder to hear. I slowly got out of bed and peeked out my door to get a better hearing.

"I know, we can't leave now." The breaking of glass made my heart race.

"Calm down, Hunter go out and get some fresh air. Mia is sleeping she's been through enough." The door slammed shut again.
