Chapter 19

Once everyone was safely on the ground, they all thanked Sportacus for rescuing them. Gemma stayed behind so she could be alone with him after the mass left.

"Do you mind taking me home?" she asked as he was getting ready to take off.

"Of course not," he smiled. "Climb on board."

Gemma stared at Sportacus from the corner of her eye as he manoeuvred the airship perfectly to fly off. She studied him closely in fear that this would be the last time she would ever see him.

Memories flashed through her head from when she first met him and finding out who he really was. She also played scenarios in her head that she wished would happened right now as they made their way to her hometown.

Sportacus turned to her and noticed the far off look in her eyes. He managed a small smile and cleared his throat to get her attention.

"I'm sure your friends will be happy to see you," he said as he guided his airship with ease.

Gemma nodded, staring at the floor. "I just... Sport... Magnús..."

He looked at her as she fumbled over her words. Magnús wanted to believe that there was something there between them. She had the story she was looking for now. There wasnt really much to talk about now which made the journey quiet.

"Thanks again for saving the people on the plane and taking me home," Gemma said, giving up what she was really trying to say. "I was terrified. I thought your crystal only worked in the area you're in?"

"I guess not," he said with a chuckle. "I dont know why it led me all the way out here..."

Maybe it was because of the magic of how he felt that led him to save her. The deep magic of the crystal was unknown even to him.

He felt a pull at his heart when he looked at Gemma again and saw she was trying not to cry. Magnús wanted to comfort her but he wasnt sure what her true intentions were.

After a while, they come up on Gemma's hometown.

"I think there's a clear field somewhere you can land and I can just call a cab to pick me up," she said, leaning against the pilot seat and staring out the window.

He followed her directions and landed the airship behind a large strand of trees in a clearing.

"Thanks again," Gemma said as the door opened and she stepped halfway out.

Magnús tilted his head curiously as she just stood there staring at the woods and sighing before turning to look at him. Gemma opened her mouth to say something but quickly closed it and smiled.

"If you need anything, don't hesitate to call" Magnús said as he watched the only woman he loved hop out the airship.

Gemma giggled with a nod and wave as she pulled her phone out to call a cab. The door closed and the airship slowly rose into the air and took off. Gemma whipped around to watch it take off, her heart sinking as it disappeared into the clouds that lingered above.

It was that long when her cab pulled up and took her home. After paying the driver and gathering her luggage, she went to her room and leaned on the door with a sigh.

"Welcome home!" Taylor squealed entering from the living room.

Gemma blinked in surprise as he threw his arms around her and Kirsten made her presence known as well.

"How did you get in here?" Gemma asked, hugging Kirsten.

"Girl, you hide your spare key in the most obvious places," Taylor said dangling the spare in front of Gemma's face.

She pursed her lips and stuck out her tongue.

"How are you?" Kirsten asked, knowing something was on her best friend's mind.

Gemma let out a loud sigh and sunk into the couch and told them everything. "I have a lot of emotions right now and I'm not sure which ones I should listen to."

Taylor sat next to her, Kirsten on the opposite side. "Girl, in my opinion, if you have feelings for him you already know which emotion to listen to."

"Finding a guy like him is hard," Kirsten threw in. "Trust me, I know. He seems like a great guy, Gem. I say screw the job and break the deal with Kim."

"What about you guys? If this story doesn't go out the business shuts down, you two lose your jobs..." Gemma threw her hands up annoyed.

"Don't worry about us," Taylor said. "We can find other jobs. We can take care of ourselves. Your happiness is just as important as others. Care for yourself for once."

Gemma sat there, letting what he said sink in. He was right, and so was Kirsten. Why jeopardize someone's life to make her life easier? She wouldn't be happy if she hurt Magnús.

"We're gonna go," Kirsten said grabbing her things. "Think really hard on this, Gem. Taylor and I will be fine. But will you?"

That question pulled at Gemma's heart in a way no other words had thus far. The battle with herself was coming to a close and she knew she couldn't hide in a cellar and wait for the army to rush passed without seeing her, so to speak.

"Call us if you need anything," Taylor said blowing her a kiss and closing the door behind him.

Gemma sat there in her quiet living room, repeating the words Kirsten spoke in her mind. She thought about when she first arrived in Iceland and meeting Magnús for the first time. The spark between them was real, she thought. Her best friends can take care of themselves. The business would collapse but Magnús's secret would remain secret and he wouldn't be hurt from her betrayal.

"I guess I know what I I have to do," Gemma said out loud with a sigh.
