What do you get when you put together a security guard and an electronics salesman? You get a married couple who are professional second-story men on the side.<br><br>When Amery and Myles decide to break into the home of a wealthy Denver couple, they find more than they were bargaining for -- the couple's dead bodies. Now all Amery and Myles want to do is avoid being arrested for the murders. That becomes more difficult when Fetch, a police detective and Amery's ex, shows up with questions they'd rather not answer.<br><br>Will they be able to help solve the murders without Fletch discovering that they had been at the scene of the crime -- and why?

Chapter 22

“Yes. Mr. Wayland, on the advice of his lawyer, decided to take the plea bargain the prosecutor offered him. In exchange, he gave us the details of what happened the night of the murders, claiming he killed them in self-defense.”

“Uh-huh. With no defensive wounds on either of the bodies,” Amery said skeptically.

“Let me tell the story the way he did,” Fletch replied. “He claims that he got in touch with Mrs. Newell Saturday afternoon to tell her he was willing to pay what she wanted, in exchange for the videos.But it had to be that night, as he was taking an extended leave of absence starting the following Monday. She said she’d meet him at her house at ten. He agreed.”

“Explaining the lights we saw as we drove past,” Amery said. Which he and Myles hadn’t, since they’d made that up, but luck was with them as far as the timing of their story went.
