"How dare you talk to my father like that, Selena?" Makenna's pale face was full of displeasure. "My mother is sick in bed because of what happened that day, and it's all your and your b*tch mother's fault!"

I suppressed the nasty words threatening to spill out my mouth and smiled. "Your mother would have deserved her death. God punishes cheaters, you know."

Makenna was so angry she stomped her foot. She wore a purple dress with a flowing skirt. She looked lovely and sweet, but tears welled in her eyes. She clutched at Deacon's arm, gasping for breath as she said pitifully, "Dad, my chest hurts."

Deacon lowered his head, comforting Makenna. Then he turned and looked at me angrily. "You're a troublemaker, too. Wasn't it good enough that you married into the Navarro family? Why did you have to involve Valentin? Now the whole of City A is talking about the Barton family."
