16 Chapter Fourteen

July 31, 1580

I awoke. I could not remember when but at some point during the night or the early hours of the morning I had fallen asleep. Weyln was no longer sitting beside me, Maximilian had replaced him. “Morning sleeping beauty,” he says sarcastically.

“Yea yea I’m up,” I say as I reluctantly pull myself up off the sandy ground. "Where is Weyln and the others?" I ask.

"They've all been awake for an hour or two now. Everyone is gathering by the wreckage, I came to get you but I've never seen you sleep." He chuckles, "The first week that we set sail everyone came to believe that you were a nightwalker of sorts. You never came below deck, not once."

"Sleep does not take me often."

"I'm glad she did, you'll need the energy for today." He stands up. "Come on let's go meet up with the others." He extends his hand to me, I take it and he pulls me up.
