Chapter 65: Guess Who's back? Back Again

-Los Angles Forest Outskirts-

Nathan had been walking back for roughly forty minutes and finally saw the end of the trees as he reached the outskirts of the forest.

He couldn't help but scream as he stepped outside the forest. "I am finally out, hahaha."

"Haaaa, to think I, the guide for police, got lost on my way back. Luckily no one was with me otherwise. If someone knew, they would never let this go."

He shook his head and breathed a sigh of relief before he walked to the parking lot.

Being alone in the dark and empty forest, there was nothing more he wanted now than to meet up with his family again.

Although he had barely been away for more than an hour leaving the forest, the tense situation there felt like he was leaving prison after serving for years.

After around four minutes, he finally reached the parking lot and started walking toward his car.

Upon reaching the car, he found that only Ryan and Alex were in the car, and the vehicle was locked.

Nathan – "Where did Amanda leave the kids sleeping alone in the car? They look so cute sleeping together. I don't wanna wake them up."

Nathan then looked around, searching for his wife, and upon not finding her, he could only bite the bullet and wake Ryan up to help him out.

Nathan knocked on Ryan's door.

Ryan, who had just fallen asleep, opened his eyes after hearing a knock, saw his dad through the car window, and jolted awake.

"Dad?"

Nathan whispered, "Yeah, it's me. Can you open the door? Also, try to keep quiet. Don't wake Alex up."

Ryan nodded his head unlocked the door, and before leaving, rested Alex's sleeping head that had been leaning on his left arm onto the car seat gently.

He then exited the vehicle and hugged his dad. Nathan and Ryan hugged for a few seconds and then separated.

Nathan asked, "Where is your mother?"

Ryan scratched his head and said, "Well, that is a bit complicated."

As Ryan was about to start explaining the situation, he was interrupted by a sudden scream.

-Claire's POV-

Claire had just finished talking with Amanda and was heading back with her toward the kids and the car.

Upon entering the parking lot, the sight that she saw made her scream.

The lights in the parking lot were dim, so she couldn't recognize the man standing next to the car as she was a bit further.

A strange man was trying to lure Ryan away with candy! She let out a scream as she quickened her steps toward the car.

Claire shouted - "Ryan, where are you going?"

-Amanda's POV-

Amanda heard Claire shout and looked and saw Nathan standing with Ryan.

Amanda - "AHH!! NATHAN."

After screaming her husband's name, Amanda couldn't help but run towards Nathan and Ryan, who stood next to their Mercedes Benz E class and jumped into Nathan's arms.

"I was soo worried!"

"Oh no. My baby is worried. I have done a bad thing." Nathan said and gently fixing the stray hair on Amanda's head.

Ryan rolled his eyes as the couple started being lovey-dovey in front of him. "Get a room."

He muttered. Nathan and Amanda were startled by the comment and released their embrace hurriedly in embarrassment.

-Normal Pov (Third person)-

Amanda reached her husband and son at the same time and hugged them both tightly. She didn't say anything, but Ryan knew she had been afraid to be entangled in the matter.

After sharing a group hug, things finally normalized, and the worries in Amanda's heart disappeared.

Claire continued to stroll slowly toward the three to avoid disturbing the Williams family, who were having a moment.

Claire stopped in her path and pretended to smell flowers to avoid seeing the uncomfortable scene in front of her. At this time, she felt thankful that Alex was asleep and that she didn't see the scene before.

-Outside Mitchel's house-

In front of the Mitchell household, Phil parked the car and said, "Okay, we are here." He tried to show he was okay to Luke, but his face was pale and ashen. Haley looked at her dad with worry and kept thinking about Alex and her mother.

Phil and Luke got out as planned, headed toward Mitchell's door, and rang the bell.

After a short while, Mitchell came and opened the door with a worried look on his face. After talking for a short time, Phil decided not to dawdle there.

"Okay, then I better get going. Thanks for taking care of Luke."

"It's the least we can do," Mitchell said with his hand on Luke's shoulder. Phil looked at Luke one last time and said, "Everything going to be alright." before he turned to the car.

Phil then returned to the car, wore his seatbelt, turned on the car engine, and started slowly removing his vehicle from the parking.

To get a machete, Phil drove the car toward their next destination, Jay's house.

The car quickly picked up speed and left Luke and Mitchell alone in the house.

"Where is Uncle Cam?" Luke asked after entering the house.

Before Luke could finish his sentence, Mitchel replied while rolling his eyes, "He is out. He will be back."

Mitchell is seen sitting alone in front of the camera.

"Where is Cam, you ask? Well, he is out to drop off the rude old man who kept knocking at our door."

"IN TIMES LIKE THIS, he NEEDS to prioritize others as USUAL. He couldn't keep it inside his waffle-filled heart for just one night."

-Phil's car-

Phil was seen driving the car on an empty road.

Sitting next to Phil, Gloria finally had enough and said, "Come on, drive quick, Phil quick. We need to hurry. The road is empty."

"I am driving at the speed limit, Gloria."

"The what?"

"Speed limit the max speed you can drive at."

"No... there is a limit?"

"Yeah, of course, there is one. Wait, Gloria, did you not know?"

Gloria looked confused but quickly made a straight face and replied, "No, of course, I know. I just forget."

Haley widened her eyes in the backseat as she heard the conversation.

Commentary starts

Gloria is seen sitting on the couch alone.

Gloria - "Did I forget it? No, I had no clue what Phil was talking about, but was I going to tell him? Of course not."

-Los Angeles Forest Parking lot-

Nathan, Amanda, and Ryan finished talking amongst each other, and Claire finally arrived nearby.

Nathan saw Claire and was left astonished by this new development he hadn't expected.

Nathan asked, "Wait isn't that Alex's mom who was following us but was caught red-handed? Why is she here?"

Hearing Nathan's words, Claire couldn't help but feel embarrassed and ashamed of her past actions.

"I.."

Ryan interrupted Claire and said, "Well, she came after we called her about Alex getting injured."

"Oh, I see."

Nathan then started walking towards the car. Meanwhile, Amanda looked at Ryan and smiled, while Claire was stunned as Ryan covered up for her.

Nathan searched the driver's seat but didn't find what he was looking for. "Where is the water, honey?"

"Oh, we took it with us when we walked," Amanda said from the opposite side of the car.

Nathan then exited the driver's side. Still holding the steel bottle, Claire handed Nathan the bottle and said, "Here."

Nathan grabbed the bottle, unscrewed the cap, and said thanks before chugging down on the water.

Amanda - "Slow down, honey."

Nathan finished drinking the water and replied, "Was just very thirsty, is all."

Ryan asked, "So what happened at the cave? Did they catch the bad guys?"

Nathan - "I don't actually know."

Claire - "Oh, why is that?"

Nathan - "Well, once we reached the cave, they told me to leave before the special operation team went in."

Claire - "I see."

Ryan - "Well, at least we know we can finally go home now."

Nathan - "Yes, we can."

Nathan looked at Claire and asked, "So, will you be with us?"

Claire - "No, I brought my car, so I will have to return with it."

Nathan - "Okay."

Standing next to Claire, Ryan asked, "I hope you will allow Alex to stay in our car as she is already asleep."

When Ryan said this, he was genuinely worried that Claire would ask to take Alex in her car and wake her up.

Claire - "Yes, of course. Let her get some much-needed rest."

Ryan - "Please let her stay, you know. Wait, did you say yes?"

Ryan, for once, was finally caught off guard by Claire.
