34 Chapter 31: Come Fly With Me (End)

Manny – "What happened? Why do you look in such a frenzy?"

Claire – "Our dad crashed one of his planes into Phil's face breaking his nose."

Manny – "What?"

Claire – "Yeah I will go grab the medical kit you wait by the door for them."

Manny – "All right."

Claire then heads upstairs while Manny heads towards the door. As Manny reaches his destination the doorbell rings loudly. Manny quickly opens the door to find Gloria and Alex back.

Gloria – "What happened why are you standing by the door? "

Manny – "I am waiting for Jay, Phil, and Ryan to arrive."

Alex – "OH is grandpa coming over? "

Claire suddenly comes rushing down from upstairs.

Claire – "Are they here."

Alex – "What going on why are you carrying a first aid kit? "

Claire – "Come inside first."

Gloria and Alex finally head inside the house from the main door. When Manny is about to close the door Claire stops him.

Claire – "Leave the door open for them."

Manny – "Right."

Gloria – "All right what's going on? "

Just then Phil who was being carried by Ryan shouted out, "Hello is anyone home?"

Claire – "They are here."

Claire then rushes and helps Ryan carry and seat Phil on the sofa.

Alex – "Will someone tell us what's going on? Why is dad's nose broken?"

Jay – "Your dad was just in a little Accident. Nothing big."

Phil – "I was in a plane crash."

Gloria – "Huh? "

Ryan – "I will explain so Jay flew one of his planes into Phil's face. "

Claire, Gloria, and Alex all stare at Jay

Jay – "Look we were threading the needle, and somebody moved."

Phil – "No I didn't. He did it on purpose."

Gloria – "Is that true Jay?"

Jay – "Come on he didn't mean that it's the painkillers talking. He is a bit loopy."

Gloria asked, "How bad is it? "

Jay – "One of the wings is cracked and the propeller is bent, but I can still…"

Gloria – "I was asking Claire about Phil."

Claire – "He looks okay but might be suffering from a mild concussion."

Phil – "I was in a freaking plane crash."

Ryan – "Yes Phil we know."

Gloria to Jay – "Can I speak to you aside for a second."

Jay – "Okay."

Jay and Gloria got out of the living room and stood in the connecting hallway and talked.

Jay – "Look, I didn't ask for him to be there. He insisted. He took a chance and that's just happened."

Ryan – "Lies, how is it that Phil got injured but me who was in the front with the smaller hoop got out without any damage? "

Jay – "I told you he moved."

Claire – "That confirms it. This is just like the time you drove over his foot."

Gloria – "You drove over his foot? "

Jay – "It was an accident."

Claire – "Yes it was totally an accident. We definitely didn't see any tire marks on the lawn. Now did we?"

Jay – "I had just quit smoking and… "

Phil groaned, "Water, get me water."

Claire quickly heads to the kitchen and Jay follows her.

Jay – "It wasn't my fault."

Claire – "Come on I have seen you thread the needle a million times. You never miss. Plus, this time there is proof why is it that Ryan came out unharmed, but Phil got injured."

Jay – "Look I am getting old. I can make a mistake at times."

Jay proceeds to grab a chocolate cookie from the kitchen counter.

Claire – "Why don't you just admit it already that you have never liked Phil? Also, put that cookie down you haven't done something to deserve it."

Jay – "I do like Phil. It's just sometimes he tries too hard you know. It gets irritating at a point."

Claire – "He tries too hard because you never make any sort of effort. In the last sixteen years, have you even once told him you liked him?"

Jay – "Maybe not in those exact words. "

Gloria suddenly interjected, "You never told your son you love him?"

Ryan – "Technically Phil isn't Uncle Jay's son. He is his son-in-law."

Phil – "Ryan when the adults are taking you shouldn't interrupt."

Ryan was left speechless Phil high on painkillers was a different breed.

Jay – "Ryan made a valid point. He isn't my son."

Gloria – "Does that mean you don't love Manny?"

Jay – "No I love the kid. Believe me, while I was at the park. I really wish Manny was there."

Gloria – "I see so that you could take your stupid plane and crash it into his head instead."

Jay – "Come on."

Claire then returns and hands over a flap of the plane to Jay.

Claire – "Here dad I found one of your plane flaps stuck in Phil's head."

Jay – "It's called an aileron. It controls the horizontal…"

Jay is interrupted by Claire.

Claire – "Yeah dad that's what's important right now. I think it would be best if you get going."

Jay goes down and sits next to Phil on the couch.

Jay – "Hey Phil."

Phil – "Jay."

Jay – "Look all I wanted to say is that I am sorry, it doesn't matter if I missed, or you moved."

Phil – "I didn't move an inch."

Jay – "Either way I just want to say… I like you."

Phil – "You do? "

Jay – "I do."

Ryan suddenly remembered a song and start mumbling in an audible tone.

Ryan – "Ooh, girl, I like you, I do. I wanna be your friend, go shoppin' in a Benz

I like you, I do. I'll hit you when I land, can you fit me in your plans?I like you, I do

We went over to France and we woke up in Japan. I like you, I do (I do, mm, mm)"

The whole apartment went completely silent.

Claire – "What just happened? "

Ryan – "Oh sorry about that don't mind me."

Phil – "Wow that song was quite good. Where did you hear it?"

Ryan scratched his head and replied, "Uh would you believe it that I just came up with it hearing your conversation."

Claire – "You did what."

Ryan – "I think we are missing the main point here. Phil, I think Jay just said he liked you. Don't you wanna know what he likes about you? "

Jay gave Ryan a stern look knowing very well that Ryan had just done him over.

Phil- "Good shout Ryan, what do you like about me."

Jay – "Uh you are a nice guy, you try real hard, and you're a good dad."

Phil – "I am good dad so are you are you, come here."

Phil then hugs Jay.

Alex – "Are we going to ignore that Ryan just came up with a catchy song in a matter of seconds."

Ryan – "Hey, I was just rambling a tune. Don't hype me up for no reason."

Manny – "If that's just some tune then every amateur singer should be ashamed."

Cameron and Mitchell suddenly enter the house.

Mitchell – "Hey why is the door open? "

"Oh my everyone is here."

Cameron – "What is this a family get-together without us? "

Claire – "No just a string of events led everyone here. By the way, why are you here? "

Mitchell – "Oh we found these olives on sale and wanted to come to give it as a gift."

Cameron – "Is Phil's nose broken? What have we missed."

Phil – "You missed a plane crash."

Claire – "And dad hugging Phil."

Alex – "Don't forget Ryan making up a song in…."

Ryan quickly covered Alex's mouth

Ryan – "I think the most important thing you missed is Jay giving Phil proper validation. Something he has never given to uncle Cameron."

Mitchell – "Oh yes dad you never approved of Cam like this with a hug."

Ryan then quickly ran and exited the Dunphy house.

Alex and Jay shouted at the same time - "Ryann."
