A Mother's Death

"Please, let me go and meet the Witch doctor. my mother has been ill for a long time now" Melantha knelt as she pleaded with the youths from Talsa village.

"No,go away, where did this ugly creature come from" The youth in red who seemed like the leader said to her rudely.

Melantha knelt and cried for help but to no avail. Her pleas fell on deaf ears as two of the youths picked her up and threw her out of the village. Melantha stared at the back of the people with hatred brimming from her eyes as she vowed to pay them back tenfold.

Melantha stood up and walked away sorrowfully. As she walked away from village, the vitality from the plants in the surroundings seem to be sucked away as they turned grey in color. Soon an awful smell began to fill the air as fruits from trees began to rotten. A bad sign of calamity that Melantha had unknowing caused to the village. For the next few days, the people in Talsa village found it hard to feed themselves as their food supply runs dry.

As for Melantha, the girl had gone far when she suddenly heard a shout from behind her.

" Little boy , wait up, I have something to give you" A lady the size of Melantha said to her while panting.

Note: Melantha had worn a man's clothes for convenience and disguise.

"This is all the herbs I can get and also you walk very fast,I had to run very fast just to meet you. I have to go now before the youth leader notice my absence" She said quickly and sped away as she came.

" Please, may I know your name " Melantha quickly shouted to the running figure.

" My name is Amaris and please do not tell anyone I gave the herbs to you if not I will be bullied in the village bye_______" by now she had gone to far for Melantha to hear her

"Thank you Amaris, I will remember your favour and repay it in the future"

Melantha took the herbs and went back home to treat her mother only to find out that the herbs were used for treating common cold and not terminal illness like her mother. Melantha was sad and depressed, She painfully watches before her eyes as her mother was dying without her having the power to do anything about it.

" Melantha, my child, do not despair for I will always protect and guide you wherever I am. I want you to do something for me, go and dig close to the trunk of the old Willow tree that I like, you will see somethings that I left you. They will guide you to your future and origins. Do not cry over my death and always stay strong. I will always be with you my lovely daughter" She said as breathed her last.

Melantha stared at her mother for a while and a sigh escaped her lips. At last she could not take it anymore and bawled her eyes out while saying

" Mother you know how much I love you and you expect me not to cry, I can't, I can't take it anymore, Mother come back to me, I love you so much, come back".
