1 Episode 1

A glowing haze streaming down on her, she squinted her green eyes, barely able to see beyond the glare. Her hair shone a magnificent scarlet in the light. It draped long and straight over her shoulders. She felt her heart beating within her like a great wild drum. Her hearing seemed to be muffled and her body tingled from one limb to the next. Her breathing had steadied as her eyes fixated on the approaching figure. She pressed her peach pink lips together as it broke through the light, forming a black silhouette. It seemed to be mocking her as it lingered over her. She looked deep into its milky blue eyes as her bangs fell down over her own eyes.

The gunshot rang off into the distance as she laid on the ground, her blood just as crimson as her hair. The shadow loomed over her a moment longer before it reached down, picking something up. It turned and shrank into the distance. Her blood spilled out in a pool on the ground around her pale face as the light disappeared. The dull thumping of her heart drowned out all other sounds as she stared up into the night sky, its expanse filled with stars.

Her eyes glazed over. She felt as though she were swirling through the air. Her body was now consumed with a cold numbness, and she found herself looking down on her body. The world around her then washed into a coal-black abyss.

---

She jolted up, awakening to a loud clanging sound. Her long crimson hair flinging up over her shoulders. The room began to saturate and take form. She felt her heart skip a beat as it leapt into her throat. There were sinks and a number of bodies laying on tables accompanied by an even greater number of bloody medical instruments. Her green eyes were fixated on the short, bald man across the room as he turned to reveal his blood-spoiled coat and gloves. Her breathing became heavy as fear began to ripple through her. The older man smiled a wild smile.

"Ahh, you're awake. I must admit, I had my doubts." His voice reminded her of a rat. As he began to approach her, she jolted off her table only to find she did not have the strength to hold herself up. The floor rushed to her and she landed harshly.

"What have you done to me?! Stay away!" she demanded.

"Now, now, my little redhead. You have no need to fear me. Oh no, I brought you back. You see... I've finally done it. I've been trying for so long and failed so many times." His mad eyes widened. "They all said I was crazy. They said I was mad and yet I'm the one that has succeeded, not they."

She lifted herself onto her feet. Her legs trembled beneath her as she grabbed a razor-sharp bloody instrument.

"Get back!"

The man halted. "That's fine. Go if you like. Go on. You are not a prisoner here."

She slowly stumbled backwards away from the strange fellow and put on a pair of boots lying on the floor.

'Whoever used to own these aren't going to need them anymore,' she thought as she looked down at the body on the cold metal table in front of her.

With that, she turned and ran from the room. The door leading outside flung open with a squeak and she was thrust into the night. Her short-sleeved gown, which reached down to her knees, flapped in the cool breeze.

---

The wind blew her fiery red hair back over her shoulders. A few long, straight strands were caught up on the air. The cool night was chilling her and she knew she needed more than just the surgical gown she now found herself in. There seemed to be a strange hollowness about the sporadically lit streets. A soundlessness that seemed out of place. Suddenly, her jade eyes caught a glimpse of some unidentifiable, mangled, and twisted corpse lying stiffly on the ground, much of its flesh having been gnawed off. She gave a fearful exhale as her eyes widened and her face flooded white.

"Scavenger lands," she whispered.

Her grip on the sharp, bloody instrument tightened as she pressed her dry lips together to calm her breathing. Trembling, she turned and backed up against the wall of a building. Fear welling up inside her, she felt as though she were paralyzed. And yet, at the same time, her heart began to race, an urge rising within her to run madly. Her eyes intently searched the darkness. She forced her eyes closed, trying to gather her courage.

'Come on, you have to get ahold of yourself...' she thought.

Then she heard it, the sound that sent an uncontrollable chill up her spine, causing the hair on the back of her neck to stand on end. Her eyes shot open.

'Scavengers!'

The creature's glassy eyes glinted in the street lights. Its contorted body scarcely resembled the human it once was. She bolted at once down the ransacked sidewalk. Suddenly, the cement seemed to race to her as she landed harshly on the ground. Her only weapon jumping across the pavement just out of reach. Her knees and arms instantly burned from their fresh wounds.

She felt her stomach twist as an icy cold hand caught a strong grip on her leg. She rolled at once and began to kick at the cannibal, it dragging her further from the sharp instrument and into the darkness. Its eyes wide and hungry, its teeth sharp, and its grip unrelenting. She screamed and squirmed. Her long red hair dragging on the ground behind her as she was pulled over the abrasive cement out of sight.
