Chapter 1

Scarlet Eastwood is a normal 17 years old girl. She lives with her parents and her two little brothers, Oscar and John, in a rather small village with all sorts of strange festivities.

   One of the most important festivity is "The Initiation". In this saint festivity, the guys and girls the age 17 gather together in the centre of the village an practice a dance wearing blindfolds that decides who will marry who.

   This year it is Scarlet's turn and she isn't very happy about this not only because she already loves someone but also because she is recovering after his death.

   Thomas was her lover and they had a secret relationship for 2 years till he got very sick and died in front of her eyes. Secret relationship because any of the unmarried teenagers weren't allowed to have any relationship and automatically when you marry someone you are together with that person.

   Only Helga, their best friend knew about them and always covered up for them when they had a date. Thomas' death was also devastating for Helga but she  still tries to keep Scarlet's mind off of him and cheer her up.

   Tonight, after some usuall festival activity like all sorts of games and normal dancing, follows THE dance.

   The girls were getting ready for the festival, they should wear white dresses to show their purity. Scarlet was still very angered and decided to wear instead a beautifull black dress for Thomas' death even if only Helga understads her choice.

   Scarlet's mother had a really serious "talk" with her but to avail, Scarlet won't listen to her mom and will only do her way.

    The village is surounded by  woods that no one ever dared to venture in but to get in the woods you have to cross a very deep river that is circling the village. The river is so deep that when a man slipped and fell in, he drowned.

    When Thomas lived, the three of them used to spend time together by that river, but since he died, that place made Scarlet very sad because it reminds her of him.

    Now Scarlet was standing alone there, even if it saddened her, it felt good to remember him for the last time, after the dance she will be forced to forget about him.

    In the night, under the mystical light of the moon, the girl was listening to the sound of flowing water with tears in her eyes, wearing a sad smile. Her long hair was slowly shaking with the cold breeze and her golden eyes shining like diamonds.

    Suddenly, a curious twinkle of light in the woods catches Scarlet's eye. Without thinking, she advances towards it lulled in it's magical dance. The girl is at the edge of the river and makes a step, that's when she realizes what she's doing but it was too late and she waits for the impact with the freezing water, but it never comes.
