WHITE LIES

"I didn't know you can be so sweet sometimes." Jacob teased her. "You are always blunt and frank in the cafe. I didn't know you have this side of you."

Hana leaned closer to him and looked into his eyes directly. "Are you flirting with me boss?"

Her question made both Adam and Jacob's best friend laugh so hard. Indeed, she was blunt and frank. You wouldn't know if she was being serious or making fun.

Jacob felt his face getting warm and his heart was beating so fast when she got closer to him. "I am not flirting with you. I was just surprised." He carefully crafted an excuse to her. "I hope your relative will become better." Jacob stated with a faint smile.

Hana thought she was definitely saved when her parents came with her doctor.

"It's good to see you Hana. How are you?" Dr. Zurich, a middle-aged doctor, came in and greeted her.

Hana's face paled when she saw him. Jacob was still there and was looking at everyone.

"Hi Dr. Zurich! I've been doing great. How's our grandmother? Is she doing fine?" Hana asked while throwing him a signal by glaring at him sharply. Her eyes were shifting towards Jacob which took the doctor a few seconds to realize what she was trying to do.

The doctor coughed to clear his throat and spoke. "It's confidential matter. Let's talk in my office."

"No need." Jacob cut them out and bowed to apologize. "I'm sorry for taking time. I'll be off now. See you at work Hana." he waved his hand and walked down the hallway to find his sister.

Hana wiped her forehead which was dotted in cold sweats and released a heavy sigh. "That was close! So close!" she mumbled while patting her heart.

"What was that all about?" her mother asked her since she didn't get anything at all.

"The man earlier was my boss. I don't know the guy he was with. And my boss doesn't know anything about my illness." Hana explained to them.

"So, you made a white lie. You even included me in your scheme." Dr. Zurich commented while putting down his clipboard on the bedside table.

"Sorry doc. This is the first and last time." Hana promised him as she gave the doctor a playful wink.

Dr. Zurich just chuckled at her. Since they didn't know if Jacob will come back to see her, Adam waited outside the door to make sure that they won't come again.

Hana changed into her hospital gowns and her basic check up started. After filling in the form that was given to her, Dr. Zurich scheduled her for different tests again. The same kind of tests that she needed to take every 30th of the month.

When Jacob passed by, he was with a woman, probably the sister that he mentioned to Hana earlier. He talked with Adam for few minutes and left since she couldn't see Hana for the time being. Adam told him that she was currently talking to their grandmother and it was quite dramatic so he stayed outside the room.

His sister's lie made him say a lie as well. He followed them secretly and made sure that they won't be coming back.

Even if it was rather impossible for Jacob to come back since he wasn't 'in love' with his sister 'yet', Adam didn't want to take any chances.

He only went back to the hospital until Jacob was out of his sight.

"Is he gone?" Hana asked her brother.

"Hn. They left not long ago." Adam informed her.

"Would it be fine? What if he will come àgain and find that it isn't a grandmother who is admitted here?" Rudolf asked his daughter, worried and concern that her boss would find something about her, fire her right after and have his daughter's heart broken. He didn't want that to happen!

"It's alright Papa. He won't know. I will make sure that he won't know anything." Hana promised but her heart was slowly breaking into pieces. Even if she promised that, she was also afraid. 'What if he would know?' she questioned herself.

"But what if he would know?" Adam asked the question she had in mind.

"Then he knows. That doesn't matter. He can fire me if he wants. I am already happy with the time I spent in the cafe." Hana immediately answered. She made a promise to herself. She will never let him know that she's in love with him.

Dr. Zurich smiled faintly while hearing their conversation. He didn't say anything or expressed his opinion but, he was silently hoping for Hana to meet the man who will love her unconditionally, even if it would just be a short time.

Jacob felt something was amiss but he couldn't point out what it was. He drove his car silently with his best friend taking the shot gun seat and his sister was at the back, checking her laptop.

"I hope she's alright." his sister murmured but she kept quite after that.

Jacob knew that his sister was always compassionate towards her patient and he often heard her praying for their fast recovery.

"Don't worry about anyone for today sis. It's your birthday and it happens once a year. Enjoy this one day and worry for the rest 364 days. That should be fine." Jacob mercilessly stated making his sister roll her eyes.

"Shouldn't you wish me to worry for a day and be happy for the next 364 days.?"

"That's impossible." Jacob retorted. "I wish according to my observation. You will always worry about everything ever single day. So I wish for a day that you won't worry about anything. At least, this wish is attainable."

He was still being logical when it comes to wishes. 'I wish her grandmother will be alright, too.' Jacob thoughtfully added in his mind.

If Adam gets the chance to hear this wish, he would be rolling on the ground, dying from a fit of laughters.
