A Quick Talk

I close my eyes, remembering Chetan's kiss. I sit under a tree. The other vampires went out hunting, and I couldn't stand to be with them. They have no regard for life and kill way more creatures than they need to. I know Ash would bring me back a squirrel or something.

The wolf scent was near. I breathe it in. I know they haven't gotten back to their base. If only I could run and speak to them. I am faster than a typical vampire and a werewolf. I will be back before the clan even knows I'm gone.

Lifting my neck in the air, I take a good sniff. Following their direction, running as fast as I could. I guess I can't help but be aggravated by a new scent, and I wonder who this new wolf is.

Their Scent gets stronger and stronger. Soon I can hear their laughter and silly conversations. I hear everyone's voices besides Chetan. He must be miserable.

Soon I see them. They finally smell me and stop walking. "Come out, Zare," says Ajay. He sounded very aggravated.

I approach them in my wolf form. Chetan is the first one to change to his human form. I change too. Cricket, Smoke, and Dev all growl at me.

"It's Zare clam down," Chetan yells.

"What are you doing here?" Ajay asks.

"I just want to talk. I miss you guys, all of you."

"Where are the other vampires?" Ajay says.

"They're out hunting."

"Of course,'' says Ajay.

"We have to drink; otherwise, our throat burns really bad."

"So now you're defending them," Ajay remarks, shaking his head.

I guess I was. "Not just explaining."

Ajay changes into his human form. He approaches me face to face.

"Are you coming home?" He asks.

"I still can?"

"Stop, you know I've been worried sick about you," he says.

"I can't leave Ash."

"Do you have some romantic thing with him?" Chetan asks.

"No, he's just my friend, and believe it or not, he's very decent."

"Then you'll have to choose adagyudi," Ajay says.

"I know."

"I won't protect a vampire or risk the lives of my pack," he tells me.

"He is harmless."

"Maybe to you, but to me, he is still a vampire," Ajay replies.

"Fine."

"And I won't hesitate to kill him," Ajay says.

"Then I won't be able to join the pack."

"Zare, I can't live like this anymore. I can't describe the pain I feel. I smell you, and I long to touch you. I see you and my heartbreaks. I need you here with me," Chetan says.

"I know Chetan, I feel it too."

"I was so angry at you for not understanding the misery you put me through not being here," he says.

"I do."

"So, do you love Ash more than me?" His voice breaks.

"Of course not, but Ash is my friend. I can't watch him be destroyed."

"Then I guess you made your choice," Ajay says with his arms crossed.

"And what about me? I am a half-vampire. Are you going to kill me too?"

"If you stand with them and I have to, yes, and that scares the hell out of me, Zare, because it's no secret that I also love you," Ajay says.

"He is a vampire. We are your pack, your family. How are you even torn?'' asks Kiara.

I look over at her, and she stands next to the new wolf.

"I don't know."

"It looks like you made your choice," the new wolf says.

"Excuse me, who are you?"

"Abooksigun," she remarks.

"We came across her as a lone wolf the other day," Ajay says.

I nod.

"I'm sick of seeing Chetan being tortured," Abooksigun tells me.

"I don't need to explain myself to you."

"Stop, I don't need another fight," Ajay yells.

"Sorry, Alpha," Abooksigun says.

"Yeah, sorry, Alpha," I roll my eyes.

Ajay laughs, " You're still a pain in my ass, and you're not even here."

I smell the Vampire's scent. They were returning from the hunt.

"I must be going."

"Zare, no, please," Chetan cries.

"This isn't goodbye, Chetan." I couldn't kiss him, not even look at him, for the pain would be too overwhelming. I ran as fast as I could. I know there's no way Chetan could keep up.

In moments, I sit in front of the tree. Closing my eyes, I pretend to be sleeping. I feel so relieved I made it back in time. Soon I hear something plop in front of me. It was bloody, and that sent my senses into a frenzy. Opening my eyes, I see a bloody groundhog. Quickly, I drink the blood out of him.
