Chapter 42

"Take care of the one leaving from the left!"

"Yes, sir!"

I order team coffee and see them mowing the Grimm that tries to run away from us. It has been three days since we accepted this mission, and I must say that this mission is not too bad. Our only job is to mow down the bigger Grimm and leave the rest of it to the soldier.

We decide to use the lure and attack tactic to move a portion of the Grimm from the main force. Elizabeth and I will deal with the bigger Grimm like the Beringel, Alpha Nevermore, Death-Stalker, and Goliath.

"Velvet! Fox! To the right! Protect each other! Coco! Yatsuhashi! Take the one on the left!"

At my command, team CFVY charges forward and starts to fight the Grimm. Yatsuhashi became their vanguard, with Velvet standing behind him, supporting him. Fox and Coco, on the other hand, become their finishers. Coco kills the Grimm from far away, and Fox becomes their team hit and tactic.

I must say that I underestimate them. I thought that they were just second-year students of Beacon, so they were still inexperienced. However, I'm glad that I'm wrong. They move as a team and cover each other back.

There is still room for improvement, so I also teach them whatever I can. Coco has tunnel vision. Once she started her gun, she was unaware of her surroundings and vulnerable to a sneaky-type Grimm. Velvet is a versatile fighter, especially with her weapon that can copy many kinds of weapons and her semblance that can copy other people's moves. However, she cannot fully use the weapon she has because of that. Not only that, she did not have enough flexibility that her body type gave. She decides to take damage and let her Aura take care of it rather than dodging it. It was a habit many Aura awakened people have.

Yatsuhashi also has this problem. He didn't really think about dodging even the simplest attack. He takes them all head-on like a charging bull. He is good at taking damage, but even the toughest bull will die from getting too much damage.

Fox, on the other hand, has the opposite problem. He is the definition of a Glass Cannon. He hits hard and fast, but he cannot take too much damage. He decided to abandon his defense in favor of his speed and attack. It was a good thing to focus on one thing, but sometimes you need to focus on the other as well. You did not need to become a Jack-of-all-trades and master of none, but you still need to focus on the other from now and then.

"Father, it looks like they are finished."

"I know, Elizabeth. With this, our job here is done. Can you be a dear and call our ride?"

"Of course, father."

After saying that, I walk toward Team CFVY and say.

"Congratulations on completing the mission."

"Sir!"

The loudest one greeting me is Velvet. I never thought that I would get a fangirl in my life, but here we are.

"So, we are done here? I know there are many more Grimm at the coast."

I look at Coco, changing her weapon into a bag and putting back her glasses.

"Yes. Our job here is to reduce the number of Grimm, not to exterminate them. We will leave the rest of it for the soldier."

"That is the thing I want to ask, sir. If you don't mind, can you tell us the reason why we did not exterminate the Grimm while they are at their weakest?"

Should I tell them about the defeat of the soldier? Hmmm…

"Well… Are you guys watching the march of the soldiers?"

"Of course. It was all over Vale. It was news about how the soldiers of Vale successfully defeated a large horde of Grimm… I see. Shit."

I can see Coco connect the dots together while the rest of her team is still confused. Seeing them still confused, I decided to tell them about it.

"The news you guys watch is propaganda. It was all a lie being told to you to reduce the amount of negative emotion that the people of Vale have already released because of the White Fang announcement."

When I say that, I can see the change on their faces. I guess I can understand why they have that expression.

"The soldier that decided to do what we did is not ready to do that. They are under-equipped and undertrained. Almost all of them are not ready to be called soldiers. Do you know how many obese 'soldiers' in Vale? Seventy percent of them are obese. Do you know how many of them know how to hold their gun? Forty percent!"

I told them what I read from the data that Ozpin gave to me. After reading this, I asked him if this date was false, but it looked like it was not. I know that the Soldier of Vale is incompetent, but this is too much.

"You can see why Vale decided to cover this up. I want to tell Ozpin to tell the truth to the public, but the consequences are too big. We cannot afford another wave of negative emotion from the angry civilian. Especially not after there is a crack in the wall because of the wave of Goliaths that are charging at the wall."

I shake my head a little and continue.

"Anyway, you should not really think about it."

"How we couldn't think of it when the soldiers marched to their death once again!"

"No. This time it was not the first one. This is a batch filled with soldiers from Atlas and Mistral. All of those so-called soldiers have been dishonorably discharged, and there are only a few of them left."

"I see. That means the only people left in the army are the people that are worthy of being called soldiers."

"Bingo. However, Ozpin wants to make sure there are as few casualties as possible because the army that takes this mission is a newbie. Anyway, we should get going. Our ride back home has arrived"

I want to get home and make something. It has been a while since I have had time to tinker. I look to the sky and see a bullhead arrive at our location.
