Chapter 5

'Today is the day.'

Reid stood at the entrance to the academy with a determined face. He stood still as his fellow classmates walked past him on their way to class.

He didn't bother talking to any of them and they also didn't bother talking to him. Despite the fact that they are all classmates that doesn't necessarily mean that they are friend...not even acquaintances. One needs to remind themselves that children can be very close minded, and the human mind is prone to jealousy.

He wasn't bothered by their dislike or in some cases, hatred towards himself, after all...the only person's opinion he cared about was at home waiting for him to return.

The student of the class, Reid included, stood on the large academy field with excited looks on their faces. Some just couldn't keep still and were practically vibrating on the spot.

A lean middle aged man stood in front of them with a helpless smile on his face as he looked over his student.

"Okay Class..." He begun, getting their attention.

"I know you're all excited for today but calm down. We wouldn't want any accidents to happen. Today, as we all know, marks the end of theory classes and the beginning of physical curriculum." He paused as cheers were made known all round. They couldn't be blamed for their excitement because you couldn't expect children to enjoy books.

"Settle down." He called out sternly, causing the cheers to somewhat lessen enough for him to talk.

"Now, some of you may already have a head-start in physical development but be reminded that this isn't a competition. Today's exam is only to find out what level you are at physically."

"Without wasting any more time, let us begin."

As he said that, a few of them not so discreetly eyed Reid with intent of malice clearly shown on their faces.

Reid simply smirked at their readiness to impede him. To the people glaring at him, his smirk seemed like one of arrogance...except one boy, who saw it as an invitation from the devil himself. He would have tried to warn them had he not feared what would happen to him.

'Bring it!' Reid screamed in his head as he restrained a grin.

The first thing they did was stretches which was mandatory to less injuries from sudden use of muscles. Reid's eyes widened a bit as a notification popped up.

'I completely forgot about that. It's small but I can feel the change. Looks like it's a skill worth leveling up.' He thought as he went through the motions of the stretches demonstrated by the instructor.

After a few minutes of stretches, they were now divided into groups of seven for the first exam; the sprint. The boy from earlier let out a sigh of relief when he saw that he wasn't in Reid's group.

"Hey, Tobio! What's going on with you? You've been acting weird all morning." Asked a boy who had caught his discomfort but wasn't observant enough to link it to Reid.

"N-nothing's wrong, Haze. I'm just a bit tired." Tobio replied trying to deflect the question as memories of Reid's cold black eyes floated around his memory.

The other Uchiha eyed him skeptically before shrugging and returning his gaze to the group about to race. His gaze morphed to one of hate as it drifted to the youngest uchiha on the field.

'Today I'll prove to mom and dad that I'm the best here.' He thought in rage.

"If that child can get moved a class ahead, what makes you any different?! You're years older than him!"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A female voice echoed from his memory as his face contorted in fury.
'I won't let you mock me anymore!' He thought furiously.
As if feeling his gaze, Reid turned around, surveying the competition. Reid eyes didn't rest on him for more than a moment before he moved on to the next person. Haze's eyes widened as his breathing picked up for a moment before reluctantly and forcefully stabilizing.
'Just you watch me!' He yelled internally.
"On your mark...set...go!"
*BANG!*
The instructor fired a prop gun into the air, releasing a tiny burst of confetti out and down to the floor.
Upon hearing the shot, the group of seven children took off as fast as they could.
Watching his seniors/classmates run, with how slow they looked, he wondered what their dexterity stats would look like if he could see them. He clenched his palm tightly as he struggled to keep down his excitement.
The next few races followed the same trend, they all looked mostly slow, except the rare few that seemed to stand out a bit. Finally it was the turn of Reid's group to get on the track.
He contained himself as he took a running stance alongside his group. He didn't noticed a certain uchiha beside him, glaring daggers into him.
"Go!"
*BANG!*
Immediately, they all pushed off the ground in a race to the finish line. Letting his dexterity show itself, he shot forward past everyone else with ease.
A few seconds later, he was in second place, right behind the person holding the top spot. Within moments, he quickly and steadily passed him and created a sizable distance between him and the others with him now being in first place.
Watching Reid pass him with almost no difficulty, his rage quickly emerged.
'How can this boy who's barely seven years old have this kind of speed!? Impossible! It's not possible!!!' He yelled internally.
Reid raised a brow in confusion at the weird expression on Haze's face at the moment.
'What's got him so riled up?' He mused curiously. Mentally shrugging, he remembered his goal and pushed forward. After running three quarter of the track, he received a notification.
[*Ding!*]
[You have received +1 Dex!]
He grinned as he felt the increase in speed as he crossed the finish line, leaving everyone else farther behind him.
