Chapter 22

He took the first book in his hand and the system responded accordingly.

[Do you wish to learn 'Sword Mastery'?]

[Yes] or [No]

Without wasting time, he accepted, causing the book to vanish in a dull flash of light. As expected, the skill was added to his skills tab. He felt the basic knowledge of sword usage being filtered into his mind before it stopped. He brought out the next one and once again the prompt appeared.

[Do you wish to learn 'Area Sense'?]

[Yes] or [No]

He quickly accepted it and felt his range of perception increases. Unlike what he expected, it was a passive skill. It was like he had a mini map in his head, although the range was rather small. He touched the last one which was a very key skill on remnant.

[Do you wish to learn 'Engineering'?]

[Yes] or [No]

Remnant is heavily reliant on technology. This is evident by the fact that when the communication tower fell, there was a major panic. They were at a loss for what to do and there was utter chaos. If you were good enough, you could control an entire kingdom by sitting in front of a screen.

It was a confusing combination of a passive and active skill as he felt the basic knowledge flow into his brain. The number of passive skills he had was racking up and it wasn't a bad thing.

As much he wanted to go and test his new skills out, he had something that he wanted to try but had been postponing. He got up, ready to leave the room, only to freeze.

With his newfound skill, he felt someone casually moving towards the door. Although [Area Sense] started off at 10 meters radius from him, at this distance it wasn't hard to sense them coming.

He didn't have this skill before now so he couldn't recognize who it was. He waited as they stopped in front of the room. At the same time, the door handle twisted and the door opened wide as his mother came in.

When the door opened, the presence he sensed was suddenly much more powerful than before.

'Is this normal?' He questioned internally. Before he could go deep into thought, Miko spoke up.

"It looks like you got the hang of it. I honestly thought it would take you a few days with the amount of aura you had." She explained at his raised brow at her first statement. Seeing his confusion grow, her amusement rose in tandem as she explained.

"Your aura capacity is a bit above that of the average huntsman." She dropped the bomb as his eyes widen in realization before he looked towards her, even more questioningly.

"Then what about you?" He asked curiously to which she let out a snort with a little bit of pride.

"You're years too early to compete with me." She answered vaguely before changing the topic.

"Now that you've gotten it under control, I think it's time for you to meet our host. It's dinner time." She said before turning serious.

"We have a busy night ahead of us. I'll be teaching you how to adjust to your sharingan." Reid blinked at that. He forgot about the fact that his mother could help him answer a lot of questions about the sharingan.

She was right about him needing to adjust to using it but he could dare say that he knew more about the sharingan than her. He was only skeptical about some aspects that could work differently here on remnant.

After freshening up, the mother and son duo made their way to the dining area of the belladonna household.

•••••••••••••••••

[Area Sense has leveled up!]

•••••••••••••••••

He felt the range of his perception increase. Measuring it, he determined that it increased by 5 meters per level. He could feel four people together up ahead which he assumed to be the belladonnas and Lisa.

He could somewhat differentiate them now. His mother felt like a beacon among all of them and the weakest that he felt should be Blake.

They reached a mostly empty room with only a short square table in the middle and mats surrounding it. Ghira, his wife, Blake and Lisa were already seated, leaving two open spaces for the mother and son.

The table wasn't large but it was enough for all of them. Food was already arranged on the table and it seemed like they hadn't started eating yet.

"My apologies, we didn't mean to make you wait." Miko spoke apologetically.

"Don't worry about it. It's fine." Ghira replied sincerely with a smile before gesturing to the woman that wasn't present when they first arrived.

"Your mother and Lisa already know but Reid, this is my wife, Kali." He introduced his wife who smiled gently at Reid.

"It's nice to meet you." He greeted politely. She seemed amused at his 'attempt' to be mature and responded.

"It's a pleasure to meet you too." Like her daughter, Kali was also a cat faunus. Ghira then gestured to the other participant of the room that had been staring a hole into him since he walked in.

"This here, is my daughter Blake. She's around your age so I think you'll be good friends."

He had initially ignored her but it seemed that he would have to play nice. It would be easier if she didn't stare at him like that. Before he knew it, a few seconds had passed and they said nothing to each other. Blake eyes bore into him as he gave her nothing more than a short glance.

Noticing the odd atmosphere between the two, he thought it would be best to move away from introductions.

"So, I heard that there was an…altercation when you first arrived with one Adam Taurus." Ghira spoke tentatively. That sentence got Blake's attention.

'It seems that although they already talked, they hadn't brushed on the matter.' Reid thought in his mind, remembering that his mother went to discuss with Ghira earlier today.

"Hmm!? What happened?" Kali asked, concerned. Apparently she hadn't heard of what happened yet. Ghira looked to Reid to expand on the matter which he did without hesitation.

"He attacked us in the middle of the street for no reason. Something about 'filthy humans' as he called it." He said under the watchful eyes of his mother.

He easily left out the part where he was ready to kill the bull faunus with his own weapon. Ghira covered his face in slight shame.

"I apologize about that. Adam is one our promising members but his mentality needs some work." He said with a complicated expression on his face.

"The white fang wants peace and equality between humans and faunus but there are others who take a more drastic approach at it." He said with a look of melancholy.

Kali gently put her hand and her husband's, calming him a bit and bringing him to focus. He then looked Reid again as he poured himself some tea.

"I heard that it was you who drove him off. Adam is highly skilled for his age. It's surprising that someone as young as you could not only match but defeat him." He complimented and subtly inquired.

The last part stuck with Blake. She knew Adam and as such she knew he was very strong. For someone her age to be able to beat him made her very doubtful and suspicious.

"That's not it. He severely underestimated me which I used to my advantage. Had he not done that, it would have been much more difficult." He answered carefully. He realized that Adam underestimated him when his attacks left bruises on the bull faunus.

Aura was supposed to prevent that. That meant that he either underestimated him or he didn't know how to use it. Reid chose the former as it was the most plausible option seeing as how the faunus used aura to shield his back to save it from severe damage.

The adults around the table noticed how he worded it. He omitted the last part. He said it would be much more difficult, he didn't say it was impossible. That wasn't even counting now that he has his sharingan and his stats had increased but of course he wouldn't reveal his hand.

Blake being the child she was, didn't notice what the others noticed and had assumed that Reid meant that Adam was stronger than him. The rest of the dinner was uneventful with everybody making small talk.
