A Long Time to Spend With Someone You Hate

POV Sapphire:

After the induction ceremony, the auditorium swiftly cleared out as the students were dismissed to go about their regular schedule, and Ruby went to go talk with Professor Ozpin about dorm arrangements. I decide to wait in the auditorium for my new leader, and it seems that sentiment was shared by the rest of the team, except for Weiss, who quickly leaves, without a word.

While I found that weird, I don't know enough about these people to say whether that's true or not. That train of thought gives me an idea. I should probably formally introduce myself to my new team, but I decide to do that when everyone is gathered.

Ruby returns from her talk with Professor Ozpin and says, "Well, it seems we are being moved into a larger room, usually only reserved for seniors, and….. Where's Weiss?"

"She left after you went to speak with Ozpin," Yang replied.

"Oh...well let's head back to the dorm, maybe she's there. Oh, yeah, Sapphire, Professor Ozpin said that he had your stuff brought to our new dorm,"

"Oh, thank you for telling me Ruby," I say with a friendly smile.

"No problem, anyway let's head back to the dorm now, Professor Ozpin said we have the rest of the day to move," Ruby said and started walking out of the auditorium. Yang, Blake, and I move to catch up to her, and we all make our way to team RWBY's old dorm.

---------------------------------------------------------

I enter the dorm, but I am immediately shocked still.

"What kind of deathtraps…." I mutter as I look at the room's bed arrangement.

There are two beds sitting on either side of a bookshelf, those are fine, but, precariously suspended above the two beds were two more beds. The bed to the left had a bed above it secured to the ceiling, and the one to the right has a bed above It supported by stacks of books in each corner.

"Come with me," Weiss, who I hadn't noticed was in the room, says as she grabs my arm and pulls me out of the still open room.

"Wait, we have to start moving stuff to the new dorm," I hear Ruby whine from the dorm room door that grows smaller in my vision as I am dragged down The hallway by Weiss.

Weiss continues to pull me until she reaches a balcony. It is empty as students are currently in class.

Seemingly satisfied with her choice of venue, Weiss lets go of my arm and ferns to face me.

"Is there something you need Wei----," I try to ask in a friendly manner, but I am interrupted by Weiss

"Are you a part of the white fang!?" She asks.

"Uhm… excuse me?" I state, confused at her question.

"Answer the question! Are you a member of the white fang?!?" she says with growing agitation.

"Uh, no?" I answer, even though I am still confused. I figured it was better to answer to alleviate the girl's agitation.

"Good. That means we can work together, but if I find you have connections to those beasts, I will have you expelled! And don't act too friendly with me, your initial may be a part of or team name, but you will never be a part of the team. You are just an animal. Nothing more." She states before walking past me toward the entrance to the balcony.

My ears and tail drooped, and I hung my head a little. Her words had brought up some rather unpleasant memories. I felt tears well up in my eyes, but, before they were able to fall, I heard footsteps approach from behind

I quickly wipe my eyes and compose myself as I hear careful steps approach me from behind.

POV Ruby:

I stand in shock by the balcony doorway as I hear Weiss finish her words.

"You are just an animal. Nothing more," She said.

I don't know how to react to what I just heard, and it seems my companions are not much better off. Blake was visibly fuming while Yang just stood still in shock. I don't blame them either, after all, what Weiss just said was simply not ok. I mean, Weiss is normally cold and abrasive, but this was simply too far.

You see, after Weiss dragged Sapphire out of the dorm, Yang, Blake, and I decided to follow after them to see what was going on, and I am glad we did.

Weiss leaves the balcony and comes face to face with us. We all give her varying looks of disapproval, and she seems to notice.

"I'm going to go pack my things," She says with slight guilt visible on her face, before quickly scampering off to the dorm.

Blake and Yang seem just about to explode onto Weiss, but they control it. Barley.

I motion toward the balcony door, but before I do, I am stopped by Blake.

"No, I'll go talk to her, you two go back to the dorm and start packing your things," She says, and without waiting to hear a reply opens the door and walks onto the balcony.

"Well let's head back then, we've already eavesdropped enough for today, and I feel that this might get rather personal," I say to my sister in order to get her to follow me to the dorm.

"Haah. Yeah, I guess your right, let's go," She replied.

We then head back to the dorm to start packing our things and taking down the bunk beds. I do intend to set them back up in our new dorm though, as I grew to really like them that way.

I spent the next few minutes cleaning up with Weiss and Yang in awkward silence. No one said a word, none of us wanted to say something we'd regret.

I grew tired of this silence, and I knew the longer I avoided this talk the worse the problem would get. I decided to rip off the bandaid, so I stop packing.

"Yang, could you leave us alone for a bit, please," I quietly ask my sister.

"Are you sure?" She stares at me for a few seconds, but after realizing that I wasn't budging says, "Alright fine, I'll go stand outside."

Yang then makes her way out and loses the door behind her. With her gone, now it's just me and Weiss in here.

"Weiss," I say to get her attention.

"What is it?" She replies with some trepidation.

"What was that?" I ask, getting to the point.

"What was what?" She tries to avoid the subject.

"You know what. Why did you treat Sapphire that way?" I don't let her.

There was a pause of silence as Weiss turns around and sits on her bed. I then sit across from her on Blake's bed and wait.

"Haaah, you're not going to drop this, are you?" She asks, and in reply, I just stare at her.

"I did that because she is a Faunus. All her kind do is cause chaos," She states.

"You don't know that," I reply surprised at the opinions of my conversation partner.

"I do know That! All Faunus do is lie, cheat, and steal! Just look at the White Fang that organization is full of them and look what they do! They cause chaos everywhere!" Weiss says with increased agitation.

"If that were true why isn't every Faunus a part of the white fang then. If the white fang is exactly what all Faunus are like, then why are there Faunus who don't support their cause. Even in this very academy, we have Faunus students who openly denounce the White Fang's actions." I explain patiently.

"W-well...they are probably faking it," Weiss spits out a desperate answer.

"And, how would you know that. You've never even spoken to them. Same with Sapphire, during her initiation you were praising her performance, but now that you know she's a Faunus you look down on her. Don't you find that weird?" I continue.

"I have no doubt that her skill is exemplary, but it is her personality that I don't trust," Weiss replies confidently.

"What about her personality? You've never even talked to her. You don't know anything about her. None of us do. Look, I am not telling you to change your ideologies, but I will give you some advice. Give her a chance because, whether you like it or not, she will be with us for the next four years, and that is a long time to spend with someone you hate." I end the conversation there and call Yang back in. We still have a lot of packing to do after all.
