16 Initiation

So, in this world, launching kids off a cliff edge is legal?

"Remind me to blast Ozpin with fire once I get back."

Summer nodded as both of us flew over the forest. Every student was basically yeeted off a cliff, our task? Get relics from the ruins.

What were the relics? Pfft, I dunno.

Blasting fire beneath me, I slow down my descent and land on the ground softly. Popping my neck, I look around... A lot of trees.

"So, you going to talk with me now?"

Sighing I turn in the direction of the temples.

"Im not gay, I didn't come here to get friends, I don't care what people think of me because I changed in the mess hall and im not gay."

She stared at me for a second before speaking up.

"You said that you are not gay twice."

Rolling my eyes, I take out my scimitars and start walking.

"Just making sure."

I walked past a tree and sliced a boar apart. Now that I think about it, I have never fought a Grimm in an uncontrolled environment. In signal, there were newly born beowolves to fight, but that's it, there was always a teacher to help us if we ever needed saving.

"So, you use scimitars as your primary weapons huh... I imagine Qrow is not too pleased with that."

I look at her strangely before shrugging.

"No, Scimitars are just there for the show, Im using a straight wakazashi as a primary weapon, my semblance too-"

She hung her head.

"And why would he not be pleased with that?"

She chuckled and floated next to me.

"He wanted to train you with a scythe, you liked his weapon too... Even though having a shotgun on a scythe is a bit stupid."

I smirk at that,

"I know right. I once told him to redesign his scythe to have a sniper but he waved me off, told me that learning how to use a sniper now would be pointless."

She chuckled as she looked around.

"Anyway, I noticed that you don't have any long ranged weapons..."

She trailed off, seemingly excited about something... oh right, she used a bow.

"My semblance helps me with that."

She looked over at me with her brows scrunched.

"Fire isn't the best long ranged weapon, from what you told me about your semblance, your fire doesn't travel as fast as a bullet and you can not incapacitate someone with fire unless you want to cripple them, Judging from that pistol you carry on you, you already know that."

...She deduced that from what I told her?

I looked her in the eyes for a moment, the same silver as my own and sighed. She was right, I was just avoiding it because I didn't have enough time for a day and I didn't want to dedicate a single day to a single weapon.

"Fine, I guess I need to add a sniper to my arsenal, going to take me a few weeks to make a compact sniper though."

"Why not a bow?"

"My fire travels faster than arrows."

She pouted and crossed her arms.

"Can I see your main weapon?"

Her question caught me off guard, why now? There are cameras around and it's strange enough that I look like im talking to myself. Besides that pitch black, foldable blade is known and not quite legal.

"No."

She tilted her head in confusion at my instant denial. My voice was colder than I meant it to be and I needed a change of topic.

"Oh look, there's someone there, they could be your partner."

Thank you, mother.

Looking forward, I saw a person wearing white, by the shape of the body, they were a girl, with long white hair in a ponytail and wearing a white dress... And... Were those high heels? The hell?

Deciding to ask her that question later, I walked toward her.

Took a few swings of my sword to get some vines and bushes out of the way but I reached her safely.

"..."

"..."

"...wow, I think you just met your soulmate."

... I pointedly ignored summers whisper and do what first came to mind.

"Roy Rose."

The girl nodded.

"Weiss Schnee."

And just like that, we were about to head to the ruins... emphasis on "were".

"Hey! Can anyone help me down?"

Jaune?

Turning to my right, I saw no one, that is, until I looked up. Jaune was stuck on a tree thanks to a red spear with gold linings, he was trying to pull it out but couldn't because he couldn't because of his weird position.

"Ugh, we're leaving."

She tried to grab the hem of my hoodie but I moved forward before she could, leaving her even more annoyed than she already was.

With a bit of aura, I jumped up and stabbed my scimitar in the tree and held on tightly, ending up next to Jaune.

"Hey there, Roy."

"Sup."

Grabbing the spear, I pulled, managing to pull it out of the tree. Jaune dropped on her behind and I landed in a crouch.

"Thanks."

Helping him stand up, I held out the spear for him to take.

"Hold this and wait here, your partner is coming, probably."

With that, I walked toward the waiting girl who was tapping her foot.

"Did you have to do that?"

What was her problem? Was she fine leaving a person to die stuck on a tree? Damn, she's Weiss cold... Damn it, Yang.

"Never mind that, let's go."

She clicked her tongue and glared at me... I suddenly felt the urge to bang my head on a tree or stab her in the eye.

"Don't tell me what to do!"

...Summer sighed and I couldn't help but share her sentiment.

___

"Were lost."

"No, we're not, I know where we're going."

Sure you do.

"I assume you also know that we're surrounded?"

She turned to me with a raised eyebrow and placed her hands on her hips.

"What do you mean by that?"

I pointed behind her where a pair of red eyes were watching us for a few minutes now.

As soon as she turned around, she flinched and got out her rapier going into a battle stance.

I immediately noticed the textbook-perfect rapier stance she was taking, It was defensive probably because her instructors were always the first to attack.

Knowing the basics, at least in theory, of every weapon does come in helpful in analysing a fighting style.

Tightening the hold on my weapon, I held them at my sides, my muscles practically pulsed in anticipation and my blades got covered by blue fire.

I stood back to back with Weiss, observing our opponents, there were twelve of them, Beowolves, An alpha was leading the pack.

A B-rank and twelve C-ranks, this is can be easy for me thanks to my stamina but I don't know about Weiss.

"I can cover our retreat, we weren't told to fight, this is basically a retrieval mission, we don't have to fight unless it's necessary."

She huffed at me, the audacity of this bitch.

"Fine."

...Why does she sound offended?!

"I never thought Willows's daughter would turn out this..."

Bitchy?

My look conveyed the message and she nodded.

With just a thought Flame burst in front of me, Isolating the both of us from the Grimm, Turning around, I extinguish the flame on my blades and surround them with Aura, sending a red slash towards the three Grimm charging at us.

The three fell, lifeless and slowly started turning into dust, but by that time, Weiss and I already passed them.

We stopped when we were far enough, turning around, noticed that the Grimm were gone and a forest fire was the only thing left...

Well, better fix that.
