Chapter 5: Embracing the Spark

Maggie was restless. Every time she closed her eyes, she saw Alexa's face. She could feel the softness of her lips. It was hard to concentrate on anything. One moment she was in her bed, and the next, she was in her office. She did not remember how she had gotten there. She kept thinking about Alexa. Eventually, she realized she was smiling like an idiot, and people were staring. She scolded herself to turn it off. But her subconscious was swooning over her girl. Her girl. What did she say? Damn it.

She walked to the top floor, and people stopped in their tracks as usual. But two men were so lost in their chat that they did not notice her. She stopped behind them and could hear a gasping sound.

"Did you see Dr. Scott? She's damn fine," one of them said. Her blood started boiling.

"Yeah, I always walk behind her. You know why." The other one chuckled. That was it! The overwhelming feeling of protecting her girl took over.

"What did you just say?!" she shouted, and they spilled their coffee on them. Everyone was shocked. She never shouted. They did not say a damn thing, but she kept glaring at them. She was fuming.

"We..." one of them tried to speak, but words did not come out of his mouth.

"Yes?"

"We are extremely sorry, Ms. Chan," the other guy said.

"Well, save it for your next employer!"

"Please. You can't!" One of them begged.

"Try me," she said as she walked out. She saw Dr. Wu in her peripheral and wondered what impression she had left on Alexa's best friend. Never mind, I would even beat myself if I'm angry – she thought. She shook that thought from her head. They were supposed to be working together on the product.

She came to Alexa's lab 30 minutes late to cool off. Alexa was focused on a circuit, and Maggie took the opportunity to stare, not voluntarily. It just happened without her knowledge. Alexa furrowed her brows to focus, which made Maggie smile. Dr. Wu coughed beside her.

"Good morning, Ms. Chan." She addressed.

She took a few seconds to get her composure back. "Morning, Dr. Wu. Is everyone here?" She asked flatly.

"Yes, please let me show you the way," Lin waved her hand to follow her.

"Hello, Ms. Chan," Alexa smiled, seeing her and her heart fluttered. It was hard not to smile. But somehow, she managed not to give it away.

"Hello. What are you working on?" she asked.

"Oh, I was just tinkering with the motherboard," Alexa seemed excited.

"Oh well, let's all jump in. Let me know if you need me. I will be over there," Maggie pointed at a nearby table. It felt weird that none of them mentioned the kiss. But maybe Alexa was drunk and forgot. And Maggie was the fool chasing after a one-sided crush. But she secretly hoped the other person would remember.

Meanwhile, the same morning

That night was unforgettable. Alexa had never been kissed like that for the first time. She could not stop thinking about it. She could not have a crush on the most influential lady on the continent, could she? Her head started aching at the thought. She could not just stop feeling happy. She remembered everything even though she was just a bit tipsy. The spark she felt when Maggie's hand touched hers. She was sure Maggie felt it, too, or was she imagining things? She did not know, and that made her uncomfortable. She touched her lips, thinking about the kiss. The more she thought about the kiss, the more she craved it. God, she needed to get a grip on herself. Of course, Maggie had guys and girls pining after her. And, it probably meant nothing to her as Alexa was just there in front of her, nothing more. Alexa's heart was crushed at the thought. She tried to push the negative thoughts away from my mind.

She did not see Lin when she got to work. She was probably somewhere else in the building. They were supposed to work closely with Maggie from that day. So she tried to make herself busy and started tinkering.

She felt eyes on her while working but did not look up. She was probably being paranoid. She kept working on the motherboard. Playing with it, really. She felt two shadows and looked up to see Lin and Maggie. Her heart did its little happy dance. She was so glad to see Maggie, but Maggie showed nothing and concentrated on her work. Her heart sank a little. It was only her.

She felt tension between them even though they did not talk much. She felt a spark again as her hand brushed past Maggie's. Lin kept giving her occasional glares. At the end of the day, she was upset. She was upset that the kiss meant nothing to Maggie.

"What's wrong with you?" Lin asked.

"Nothing," she said flatly.

"I know we have never talked about the kiss between you and Ms. Chan," Lin brought up the subject she did not want to discuss.

"I don't want to talk about it," she snapped.

"Why, what's wrong?" Lin pressed like she always did. Alexa rolled her eyes.

"I'm not going to do this one-sided crush all over again."

"Who said it's one-sided?" Lin raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" She almost screamed.

"She fired two men because they made bad comments about you!" Lin announced.

This was a shock to her. "When did this happen?"

Lin told her everything that happened that morning. So, you did care, Ms. Chan – she thought to herself. She was smiling at the thought.

"What are you thinking?" Lin brought her out of her thought.

"Nothing," she said and rushed out of the room.

She knocked on Maggie's door. She heard a faint come in. She entered, and Maggie's eyes shot up. Maggie stared dumbly, and Alexa got the courage to do what she was about to do.

"I needed to talk about something," Alexa said nervously.

"About?" Maggie raised an eyebrow.

"The other night," Alexa almost whispered, but Maggie heard it. She could tell it because the other part's expression softened.

She rose from her desk and said, "Walk with me." So she started walking. Alexa followed her along with her secretary. Alexa figured she did not want to talk about it in the office.

Once they had reached her SUV, she said, "Dr. Scott, let's discuss the matter in the car." Her secretary and guards gave them privacy as they entered the car.

"So, what did you want to talk about?" Maggie asked, keeping her eyes on Alexa. The latter did not know that getting into a car with Maggie would be this suffocating, but in a good way. It was intimating.

"Ms. Chan, I ..." She opened my mouth, but she stopped her.

"If I'm guessing the topic correctly, call me Maggie," she smiled.

"Maggie, we need to talk about the kiss."

"What about it?" she raised an eyebrow.

"You kissed me," she said as if she was getting out of breath. She prayed to God that Maggie did not realize how she affected her. But it was too late, she thought. Alexa looked up, and Maggie was smirking at her.

"And you kissed me back," she said softly.

"Yeah. I do not know what it means. Just a single incident because we were drunk. Or you like me. Or is it normal for you because you have people pining after you..." Alexa's rambling was cut short as Maggie started laughing loudly. That heavenly sound made her heart swell. Alexa knew she was staring, but she could not help it. Finally, Maggie seemed to have noticed it and stopped laughing. She softly took her hand in hers.

"Stop worrying too much," she reassured. Alexa only hummed in response. The air was getting suffocating. She only closed her eyes briefly but found soft lips on hers. Those lips. She melted on the spot. It got better every time. She felt Maggie's hands on her neck and electricity run over her whole body.

"Does this answer whatever your question was?" Maggie smiled in the kiss.

Alexa hummed in response and kissed her back. Maggie tensed up first at Alexa's touch but eased up soon enough. As Alexa said before, it was soft and sweet; it did not stay that way for long. She did not realize when or how, but Maggie straddled her and kissed her feverishly. Her tongue softly asked for permission which Alexa granted happily. Their hands seemed to roam all over each other's bodies. The air was getting hotter. Finally, Maggie's mouth trailed off on her jaw and then to her neck. Did she just find her sweet and soft? Alexa could not help but moan. She did not feel like this in a long time. She had been with her share of people, but none of them made her feel like how Maggie was making her feel at that moment.

A knock on the window made them jump apart. Maggie rolled down the window. It was her guards. Maybe they thought it was getting late. Alexa did not know how long she was in the car.

"I think I should go," Alexa said, a little out of breath. It was not suffocating anymore. She did not realize the tension that had built up between them. Maggie smiled and nodded. One of her guards opened the side door.

"Alexa," Maggie called. Alexa thought her name had never sounded that good in her life.

"Yes?" She turned around.

"It's a serious matter. Think about it," Maggie said, not giving away anything to people.

"Yes, Ms. Chan. I will think over the discussion," Alexa said, trying to keep a straight face. Maggie seemed like she was trying to stifle a giggle.
