Part 3

Adeline went into work early, she had changed in the locker room into her gym clothes.

She entered the gym, bandaging her hands before she started punching the bag. The more she hit it, the more anger was released from her body.

"Your forms off" A man said to her.

"I'm sorry?" Adeline replied, turning to face him.

"Your forms off, you can hit harder if you plant your feet more" he said.

"Thanks but I don't need any help" Adeline said turning back to the punching bag.

"What about a bet? If you can knock me off my feet I'll get you whatever you want" he suggested.

"What if you win?" Adeline asked turning to him.

"Dinner? On me of course" He suggested.

"Deal" Adeline smiled shaking his hand.

"Remember to plant your feet" he said. Adeline planted her feet and held her stance waiting until he was ready. He gave her a nod and she hit him across his jaw, sending him to the floor.

"Ow" he said feeling his jaw "Who taught you how to hit like that?" He asked as she offered him her hand.

"My mother" she smiled, before he took her hand and pulled her to the floor with him.

"Well then, what do I owe you?" He smirked.

"My place, tonight" She smirked.

"Addie" Jack called from across the room. Adeline looked at the man she was on top of and realized the awkwardness of the situation, between an old lover and a future one.

"Sir" Adeline said crossing the room, coming to stand in front of him.

"We have work to do" he said looking her up and down, admiring how well she looked in her gym outfit.

"We should go" she said clearing her voice and his eyes returned to hers.

"Let's" he said walking off towards his office, whilst Adeline headed towards the locker room.

Adeline had, had a long day. They set up a victim board of all of the evidence they had collected but none of it was leading anywhere.

Adeline sat in a restaurant, sipping a glass of wine. All she wanted to do was relax after her long day but her wish was short lived.

"Detective Superintendent Thompson. I'm Dave Lions with the Guardian. May I have a word?" A man smiled at her.

"Not at the moment no" Adeline said focusing on the glass of wine in front of her.

"Not even off the record?" He said flashing a smile.

"You and I both know that there is no such thing, I've had a long day. So please leave me alone" Adeline flashed him a weak smile before she turned her focus back to her glass noticing that he took a seat "I didn't invite you to sit down" Adeline said meeting his eye.

"I couldn't help myself. Such a beautiful woman shouldn't eat alone" he smiled picking up the menu.

"I bet you wouldn't say that to a man. Your doing a lot to get this story. I particularly like the sexism" she said taking a sip of her wine.

"Can a man not share a nice dinner with a beautiful woman?" He smirked.

"Not if she didn't invite him" Adeline said, smiling at the waiter as he placed her food in front of her.

"How about a compromise? I'll pay for dinner in return for information" he suggested.

"I can pay for my own dinner" Adeline replied taking a bite of her burger.

"Would a night together interest you instead?" He smirked. Adeline took another bite and placed her burger back on the plate.

"I may be a woman but that doesn't mean you can buy me with sex. I think it's time you fucked off and left me alone to enjoy my meal in peace" Adeline said taking another bite.

"You have my card" He smirked, getting up.

"A word of advice. A woman can call whoever she likes into her bed, but don't always assume that she wants you in it" Adeline said, watching as he walked away frowning.

Adeline had just poured herself another glass of wine when her doorbell rang. Adeline opened her door and standing there was the man she had met in the gym earlier that day.

"I found your address" he smiled.

"Come in" Adeline smiled, pulling him in by his hand. She slipped his coat off his shoulders and hung it on the coat rack before taking his hand and leading him into the sitting room. She slipped his gun holster from his shoulders, placing it on the other sofa before pushing him to sit.

"I should've showered. I stink" he said watching her above him.

"I like it. It's masculine" Adeline said before she moved on top of him.
