"Why?" Lieutenant Fraunces hissed as she stared at the red-eyed man in front of her. "Why can't you let me in?"

"The Duke is having a private conversation with Miss Rosie."

"Do you understand what would people say if they knew that the Duke invited her to his room? This is— "

"Is that any of my business?" Denys responded.

"You— you really are— can't you just let me in? I have something important to say to his Grace."

"His Grace is occupied. You may come back later."

Those were the only words that would come out of the man's mouth since Fraunces started asking him to let her inside the Duke's Lucas's room where Rosie and the Duke were dining.
