Lucas Roseheart was an ordinary young man in every way. If you don't count his devilish charms, a face that could be mistaken for a grandmaster's masterpiece, and his main source of income being a mysterious sponsor, that is.

But on one fateful day, something else got added to that list...

It was right after Luc's 16th birthday. Birthdays are usually supposed to be full of surprises, but the one he faced, this was truly extraordinary. After getting blackout drunk with his friends in their favorite pub across the street from his apartment complex, he woke up in a dark alley, alone, dizzy, and with blood on his hands.

He tried to sit up, only to feel an indescribable amount of pain crash down into every fiber of his being. After about 5 minutes of trying to hold back the tears and failing, he finally managed to stand up. About 5 meters away from him was an unrecognizable corpse. Not just because he didn't know who it was, but because it was so battered and bloody.

When the fog in his mind cleared up, he could see a scroll hovering in midair, around 30 centimeters from his face. It was a piece of black parchment, one that you would see in movies about medieval times. His vision was still blurry, but he could still make out some of the golden letters etched into it.

His fingers naturally gravitated to the gold letters that made up the word [Absorb], as if he were in a trance-like state. As soon as he did, the scroll disappeared, while the corpse started fading into glittering particles, flying towards him. The particles pierced into his heart, but Zack felt no pain, only the sensation of his blood moving faster and his wounds healing. Then, the scroll reappeared.
