Chapter 29: Shadows of the Past

As Aya and the children trailed behind the hooded man through the dense forest, the atmosphere was fraught with tension. The children cast nervous glances at the towering trees surrounding them, their apprehension palpable.

"You all can relax," the man assured them, his voice low and steady. "I have my knights and mages protecting us."

Despite his reassurance, Aya couldn't shake the feeling of familiarity that emanated from the mysterious figure leading them. She studied the back of his head, her mind ablaze with questions. Who is he? What are his intentions? And why is he aiding us?

As if sensing her thoughts, the man spoke without turning around, "Do you have any questions?"

Without a second thought, Aya spoke, "What is a human like you doing in the beast kingdom duchy?" Aya inquired, her voice tinged with suspicion. "And why are you helping us?"
