Chapter 6 Sanity

Days came and gone as the river of time kept flowing in its natural manner, 6 months passed in the blink of an eye. During this time Fang has been idling around in the dark cave using nothing more than the spider corpses to fill his stomach and quench his thirst the entire time, Fang also used the tree branches to move around the forest safer to gather information about his new neighbours.

After months of living in the cave without any company besides the corpses that were decreasing at a visible rate he felt that he was slowly going insane, once in a while Fang would find himself having a conversation with himself and this was happening more and more often lately which worried Fang greatly because there's only so much a person can take before reaching their breaking point. Even the person with the strongest mentality would go insane if they're kept in solidarity confinement without any entertainment and had to devour raw spider meat and drink its black blood that reeked of foulness day in and day out.

After he consumed all the spiders he decided to leave the cave cause there was nothing left for him there not to mention that the nearby beasts have noticed recently that something strange is happening inside the spider's den and have been getting bolder by entering into the spider's territory to hunt for their meal, somewhere already starting to move in and settle down which was something that they wouldn't have dared to even consider in the past. After all, they were all terrified by the spider's venom, but the worst and most daring of them all was the terrifying monster that Fang has dubbed the Face eater.

The face eater was an extremely vicious beast that resembled nothing he had ever seen back on earth. Its body was incredibly muscular, it had feet for hands with incredibly sharp 10cm long claws that radiated a faint metallic lustre, its head had no eyes or nose just a largemouth that reached ear to ear with 3 rows of sharp white teeth, two small holes above it's the mouth that served as it's nose, it was 4 meters tall, stood on its hind legs with its top speed rivalling that of a cheater's and had crimson red skin that resembled the colour of blood. The face eater was truly a natural born killing machine and possessed incredibly sharp senses, the only creature that can defeat the face eater in this forest that he's seen so far is the wolf that had fur as white as snow with its silver eyes that shine beautifully under the light of the moon.

Fang had seen the white wolf and its pack several times when he was gathering information. He has seen the wolves lazing around carefreely in their territory but no monster dared to even approach anywhere near the boundaries of their territory in fear of losing their lives. He has also seen a small squad of 5-6 wolves during their hunting expedition and experienced their display of dominance first hand, when the wolf saw their prey they did not hide and seek an opportunity to ambush them instead they just showed themselves and all the prey would lose their mind and only think of running away but a number of the prey would be trampled on during the chaotic escape making them the wolves lunch.

Fang first encountered the face eater when he was gathering information and almost died, if weren't for the fact that the face eater couldn't climb trees it would've relentlessly chased after Fang none stop like a dog on a bone. The same face eater wanted to not only enter the spider's territory but also take over their den as well so Fang couldn't hang around even if he wanted to, so he had to say goodbye to the cave or else the face eater would notice his familiar scent from a mile away and chase after him. Fang picked up his homemade spear that was made out of the branch of one of the trees and one of the poisonous spider's leader's pincers and placed it on his back that was covered with a dirty black jacket that was covered with blood spots. When Fang's injury was already looking better he put his jacket back on completing the tracksuit once more.

Fang used a vine that he found on a particular tree to tie the spear on his back, the tree was next to something that resembled quicksand but instead of sinking after being caught in it this thing would reveal its Fang that was hidden underneath the sand and devour its victim whole. Fang did not want to stay in that place for too long and only yanked off the only thin vine he could find and immediately escaped. The vine was split into several pieces that varied in length and used for different purposes such as tying the spear as well as Fang's two knives together, another piece was used to tie the end of the spear to his wrist so when it's thrown it can be pulled back without the need of going to pick it up and the last piece was used to tie the spear to his back. Out of all the vines, the longest was the one that is tied to his wrist, the length was about 7-8 meters which provided a large attack range.

Fang picked up the two knives and put them in his pocket, the knives were made from the last of the leader's pinchers and one of the pinchers of the second-largest spider which was probably the second strongest spider in the cave when it was still alive. After packing his things Fang left the cave for good and headed east which was the only direction that he hadn't gone to before, Fang's primary focus was to secure a water source before he became too thirsty and the rest of the things can come afterwards.

After travelling a few miles Fang felt uneasy as if something was stalking him but whenever he decided to survey his surroundings nothing would be there, seeing this Fang didn't need to think twice before climbing the tree that was nearest to him but when he was halfway to the first branch a large black sabre tooth tiger with greenish stripes stealthily appeared out of the bushes and shrubs that littered across the forest, the was planning on ambushing Fang but when it saw him climbing the tree it couldn't wait any longer because if he successfully reached the first branch it couldn't do anything to him anymore besides watch since it couldn't climb trees.

Normally the sabre tooth tiger would not go to such lengths to pry at Fang's level and would just overwhelm them with brute strength without much trouble, but the spear on Fang's back gave it an uneasy feeling and its instincts advised it to thread cautiously. The sabre-tooth tiger cautiously stalked Fang like a mantis stalked a cicada, but never would it have thought that its prey would sense that something was amiss and decide to climb up the tree. Seeing that there was no other option the sabre tooth tiger revealed itself and walked towards the tree Fang was climbing, the tiger stood on its hind legs and tried to grab Fang with its paws that had sharp curved claws protruding from them. The tiger missed Fang's legs by a hair's breadth and clawed at the tree instead, the extremely strong and thick tree was left with claw marks where the sabre tooth tiger's claws travelled.

Fang who was hurriedly climbing the tree when he heard a loud bang right below his feet was heavily startled causing his whole body to shiver uncontrollably as he looked down below his feet to the ground, the claw marks that were so close to his body and the large black sabre tooth tiger with greenish stripes on the ground suggested that the beast below him just tried to kill him, the scariest thing is that it almost succeeded in dragging him down to the ground and giving him a brutal death. Thinking this far Fang felt more angry than scared as he gave up his attempt at climbing up to the first branch, Fang didn't climb an inch higher and instead pulled his spear from his back and held it firmly on his right hand as he monitored the sabre tooth tiger's movements ready to retaliate when it tries to attack him a second time "BRING IT ON YOU OVERGROWN CAT LET'S SEE WHO'S AFRAID OF WHO!!!" Fang yelled at the sabre tooth tiger from the top of his lungs.

The tiger was startled by Fang's maddened yell and retreated a few steps crouched down a bit to build up strength in its legs to jump into the air cause it realised that it couldn't reach Fang unless it jumped up to grab him. After all, it knew in its mind that there was no way that Fang would voluntarily jump down instead, the tiger was in a hurry in fear of Fang climbing up too far to the point that it couldn't reach him no matter how much it tried. The tiger spend no more than 3 seconds building up its strength before leaping from the ground into the air with its front paw extended towards Fang, failing to notice what he held in his hand or maybe it just got too arrogant.

Fang stared at the sabre tooth tiger without even daring to blink in fear of missing something, when the sabre tooth tiger leapt into the air Fang didn't react until there was only a meter separating them that he made his move. Fang put all his strength into his legs and used the tree to jump straight towards the gap between the sabre tooth tiger's front paws and stepped on the sabre tooth tiger's face and lifted the spear high into the air with both hands then trust it towards the sabre tooth tiger with all the strength in his arms stabbing the spear deep into its back, used it's head as a stepping stone to jump further into the air, performed a half-flip and as gravity pulled him headfirst into the ground he quickly pulled out the two knives from his pockets and stabbed them into its neck then barrel-rolled down it's the spine and fell from the back first into the ground from 5 meters in the air puking a mouthful of blood from having his organs damaged.

PUWAAGH!!

"Take that you beast!"

Fang's flexibility and reaction speed had improved immensely during the past 6 months of climbing, swinging and jumping on trees which was the reason he chose to attack instead of treating or maybe he had lost his sanity from living with such cruel neighbours.
