CHAPTER 13

Gideon looked at the cave that he had been living in for the past few years and couldn't help but feel emotional. And he felt this way because he would be leaving.

Yes, Gideon had decided to return to the city after defeating the lich. One of the reasons was because he missed his little sister. Another was for his own sanity. Even though he always had something to do, being unable to interact with members of his own race started to take a toll on his mind. Although he had Frey and Hades to talk to, it didn't give him the same feeling.

Gideon made Lisk who he told to stay in the cave before he fought the lich wrap around his neck as he gave the cave one final glance before stepping out. Even though he would probably never come back to this place, he still left as he had bigger things to attend to.

Gideon walked in the direction where the train had crashed and upon reaching it, he saw that the train's wreckage had been removed and the rails had been repaired.

He the looked in the direction that went back to Kalea city and without wasting any more time, he activated poison flight and took off at crazy speeds.

Commander Ryker stood on the walls of the newly established defensive line that surrounded Kalea city with a solemn expression.

If one were to look in the direction he was facing, they would see that a huge black line stretched along the horizon and if one listened closely, they would be able to hear the faint roaring of beasts in the distance.

"It seems like we underestimated the beasts this time, there has to be at least a few hundred thousand of them. So they're likely being commanded by a sacred level monster." Commander Ryker said to his vice commander who nodded in agreement.

"I guess they're trying to overwhelm us with quantity. But at the same time I have a feeling that there are going to be quite a few extraordinary beasts as well as hundreds of rare ones." The vice commander James said.

Commander Ryker looked at the defensive wall and saw the dozens of high ranked astral cannons that carried terrifying destructive power as well as the dozens of towers symbolizing a different element. These were filled with mages that had long ranged or area of effect skills and the towers themselves boosted the powers of the skills.

Finally, there was a massive astral cannon that even though it sat behind the walls. To put in comparison, The walls were 25 meters tall. The cannon was three times that height.

Numerous runes were inscribed in its massive barrel and the cannon itself gave off a scary aura.

"The beasts should arrive in a few hours at most, are all the mages ready?" Ryker asked.

"Yes, they've all been mobilized. Do if the beasts get too close, the close combat mages can attack while the long range mages will support them." James replied and Ryker nodded.

"Worst come to worst, we've asked for reinforcements from some of the noble houses, so we should be good." After saying this, Ryker looked forward once again.

'Hopefully we've actually covered everything.'

------------------------------------------------------------------------

The figure of a young girl wearing a black cloak could be seen a few hundred meters away from the entrance of the defensive line. She slowly approached the entrance of the base at there was a blue film covering her body and it seemed to refract the light around her making her seems invisible. Naturally, this girl was Victoria, who had snuck out of the mansion using her self made invisibility spell from her water element. At the same time, she would use her fire element to control her body temperature so as to avoid being detected by any heat sensors.

If word of this were to get out, then the whole military would be treated as a joke. A ten year old girl infiltrating a whole division made to protect the city filled with expert mages.

And as for Victoria's purpose of doing this. She wanted to get a view how the military fought, as well as what she was going to be up against when she went to look for her brother. Everyone would see this as incredibly stupid, but being only ten while under her parent's protection all this time would naturally be very naive, so what can you do.

After a while of sneaking, Victoria managed to get close to the front gate. And as she began to contemplate how she would get into the base, a military jeep pulled up at the front gate.

As the guards were confirming the identities of the drivers, Victoria sneakily went under the jeep and held herself in place by sticking her body with thick water.

The guards were completely unaware and when they finished the check, they let the jeep into the base.

'Success.' Victoria Thought.

The jeep drove to the parking lot, and as it did, Victoria could see different feet moving from place to place, she could also hear the shouts of some people giving orders to the soldiers.

The jeep then parked among dozens of others and the driver left. But Victoria still looked around, and when she saw that there were no feet near the jeep, she undid her spell and crawled from under the car.

She immediately crouched and reactivated her previous spells from before while looking around.

Hundreds of armed soldiers, mages, astral powered tanks and other sorts of machinery could be seen moving around the base. There were also people going in and out of a large building in the middle of the barracks. The building's roof had a large hole which housed the massive astral cannon mentioned earlier.

Victoria kept looking around before she saw what she was looking for. A wide staircase that led to the top of the wall.

'Perfect.' Victoria then ran to the wall itself and began to slowly make her way to the staircase.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

As Gideon flew along the rail tracks, he quickly noticed something odd. He hadn't seen a single monster and he had been flying for 5 minutes. It may not sound like much but mind you he was moving at a speed of 250 mph.

This made him worry because this only meant two things. Either there was a terrifying monster that would force all the other monsters to hide, or a beast tide had occurred and all the monsters were currently moving towards the city.

Gideon found the first option unlikely as he would've surely felt the aura of such a monster. So Gideon realized that the city was most likely under attack, this caused him to increase his flight speed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------

"WHAT!?!" A furious shout was heard as an immense pressure bored down on the servant causing him to crash into the ground violently, some of his bones breaking in the process.

Gideon's father was livid when he heard that Victoria had snuck out of the house. His aura could be felt throughout the mansion causing all the servants to pass out and even the guards were trembling.

Without any hesitation, he charged through the door and a pair of wings formed from blue electricity emerged on his back, and with a single flap, he was in the sky and headed for the defensive line base near their house.

And it was also at this moment that a loud siren was heard in the base causing everyone's faces to darken. The beast tide had arrived
