Chapter 18: Disciple

Yyath was found by the old master in town during one of his trips to find new talents. For a sect of their capabilities, if they announced they were recruiting, so many would come flocking in that finding the real gems among the rabble would prove to be a chore.

So every now and then, a true member of the sect would venture into the world to find their pupil. It was a tradition that had been upheld since the beginning of the sect, with the sect only performing a wild call once every 20 years

What struck the man was seeing a young boy, perhaps just 10 years old vaulting up the close space between two buildings till he got up the roof and sat down.

The master wondered what the boy was going to do after all that, only for the boy to pull out a sandwich to eat while gazing down at the movements of everyone below him.

Yyath gave off a feeling of aloofness, like an emperor watching over his subjects, like a father watching his children grow, allowing them to find their paths, make their mistakes.

'What a weird one, but it might be what I was searching for'

the master thought, and with a step he appeared next to the seated Yyath.

"I have to admit, the view over here is pretty incredible, and feeling of the wind on your face is one you can never get tired off, don't you agree boy?"

Yyath turned to face the one that had joined him at his location, a slight displeasure on his face that his sacred time was interrupted. It vanished also immediately though as the man's word struck a chord in his heart.

"Indeed old man, but the view over here can get lonely at times"

After saying these words Yyath turned his view back to the wide cityscape. It was a big city but his eyes captured a lot of. what was going on.

From the people walking in the commercial district, haggling and trying to get a good price for an item that caught their eye, to the entertainment district where men and women alike found different ways to entertain themselves.

The high class area that was lined with beautiful vehicles and even more beautiful houses where everyone were dressed like they were royalty to the slums where rags would be the best way to describe what they where wearing.

His eyes even caught an incident where a couple was assaulted by a group in a corner, after beating up the man and taking all their valuables, the had their way with the woman before living them for dead.

Of course, the old man saw all this and even worse, the houses couldn't hide anything from his own senses and he could see even worse things were going on in the city, but he could also see the good side, the light shining among those that were just trying to live a honest life, hoping to make it past another day, or those just just enjoying what they do.

A period of comfortable silence passes between both people as each was occupied by his thoughts, after a while the old master asked

"What do you then boy?"

Yyath thought about it for a while before he replied

"Light co-existing with darkness, the collusion of wills and wants of different individuals, the chaos formed from need to survive and the peace brought from overcoming that chaos.

A representation of humanity"

"If any one of those elements was missing we wouldn't be seeing this city, I don't know what would be in its place as I am but a child"

The master stroked his long white beard as he listened to the words uttered by such a kid. He was amazed the boy was able to see that much just from watching a cityscape at his age.

"So would you like to see more places then and see for yourself then"

"Yes"

Yyath replied

"But, even I know that without the strength and knowledge to take care of myself, I'd end up just like those couple over there"

He continued as the pointed to the fallen ones who he still couldn't tell if they were alive or not.

"What's your name boy"

"Yyath"

"Then follow me, I can't promise you I'll make you stronger than any in existence, but I'll make you strong enough to avoid situations like that when you travel in search of your answer"

Yyath thought about it for a while before getting up to face the old man. He put his hands together in greeting and bowed his head.

"Disciple greets master. I'll be in your care"

**********************************

Yyath followed after the master and they made their journey towards the sect.

Holmes, that was what it was called. It was a sect that accepted people from all races and all paths, which explained why the master, a human was comfortable accepting a demon like Yyath as his disciple.

Holmes was known to the outside world as a home to warriors, a place that built practitioners that walked the path of battle and thrived on blood, that even the divine route practitioners of Holmes could tear apart the sage route practitioners from other sects and academies with just their bodies.

But that was further from the truth. Holmes just didn't bother to clarify it because it helped kept trouble away. The rumour about the divine practitioner tearing apart a squad of sage practitioners with just his body and sword was true though, and the target of such rumour was no other than the master leading Yyath but that was a story for another time.

The master took a roundabout path back to the sect so as to allow his disciple see as much of the world as he could. They visited countless places from ruins to cities and villages. They even visited the outlands at one point in the trip.

One might think the journey was a waste of time, but not when the old master was involved, every moment of the trip was a teaching opportunity and the master didn't waste it.

From making Yyath catch dinner to clearing out the space they'll stay, dropping Yyath in the middle of nowhere and asking him to find the way back to him, or even the long race from location to location, Yyath opponent in the race? the master of course.

The master was attracted to Yyath because of his stunt to get to the roof but he didn't consider making him his disciple until he knew Yyath had awakened in the same path as he did. It was but a simple act to appraise him in the middle of their conversation.

What ultimately led him to accepting Yyath as his disciple however was the conversation they had on the roof. It was proof Yyath intelligence and his mindset. It reminded the master a lot of himself, and he wanted to see if Yyath would come to the same decision as he did when he discovered his answer

So he spared no efforts to preparing the youth for his future journey, the path was perilous and regardless of the answer he found he would make a powerful enemy.

The round trip purpose was to strengthen his mindset and prepare his foundation, but the master how now starting to enjoy picking up the youth.

If he knew it would have been this fun he would have done it ages ago.

The devil of Holmes, Watson had decided to make his disciple even more powerful than he was, if his enemies knew what the devil was up to they would shiver and try their best to stop the growth of Yyath.

The disaster of Edinburgh wasn't one they would want a repeat of, the presence of one devil was enough in this damned world, he didn't need to create another.

The following chapters are Yyath's backstory and the build up to the events of the chapter Yyath
