CHAPTER 14 NECROMANCY

Garen didn't think about what he thought or how he view him now. Even if he thought he was a coward or something similar, he wouldn't let such unimportant thing bother him. After all he already on the road to what he seek, he just need time and he could run around as he wish.He turned around and made way to his house. He has to reward himself with a good sleep.

Days went by and the village finally recovered it's former liveliness. Tales of thier bravery and how they ransacked convoys or sacked villages spread through the bandit village. The kids couldn't have enough of it and children play fighting as bandit became extremely common on the street. Though most people were joyful, there were quite some homes that was mourning. Not all of them came back alive, and quite a number of them came backing missing a limb or some limbs and bearing frightful scars. The joy and sorrow went hand in hand and it actually didn't seem out of place. They most have been used to it.

None of this actually affected him in any way. He went about his way like always never seemingly to care about others joy or sorrow. He would complete his shores and later go to old bahil for his lesson. He didn't slack at all in his training and made use of any chance he sees to train.

The oldman was not only impressed bit also surprised at how quickly he picked up. He seem to learn at an unbelievable pace and the oldman would have thought he had learned everything he was teaching before if not for being there when he was found. Sorcery became easier, and also more easy for him to manipulate soul energy. Mainly due to increasing his spirit attribute and also his repeated training.

***************

Garen followed behind the elder as they cut through the thicket in thier path. The oldman kept quite since they left his house and the atmosphere seem to become more heavy. Today, as he went for his lessons as usual, the oldman told him to follow without telling him were they were going. He complied, after all if he was really determined to make him follow, it isn't like he could defend against him.

They went deeper into the forest and soon came upon a small clearing. With the trees at its border, the clearing seem like a big circle. The trees around there seems to have been cut down for just some days. Weirdly enough, there were five rotting bodies laid down at the middle of the clearing.

He looked at the oldman, not really getting what is going on.

"sit" the man command and didn't give an explanation of what they are doing here. Still, he once again complied without a word. He had come to know how swift the Oldman's mood swings are.

The oldman raised his hands high and chanted some words under his breath. As soon as he completed the last syllables, the rotting bodies on the floor actually stood up. They moved in rank and bow to the Oldman's direction.

Garen was amazed by this. He knew it had to do with sorcery, some kind he hadn't gotten in touch with. No matter how he looked at it, it was a fantastic spell, able to raise people from the dead.

"what do you think." the Oldman's face was as stern as it had being since morning. He seems to really be in a bad mood. "amazing" garen replied truthfully. He couldn't seem to find any other word but that to describe it.

"it is necromancy." the oldman finally gave him an explanatio. "necromancy is a branch of sorcery. Mostly reanimating the dead. According to the ancient tome, necromancy was created by a sorcerer who wished for eternal life." the oldman stopped there and didn't go further into explaining how it came into being, much to his dissatisfaction.

"you don't have to know how it came into being, you just have to know how to make use of it." seemingly giving a reason to why he stopped.

"how does it work." he couldn't help but ask. "trapping the soul, most preferable, the soul of the body into its own dead body then controlling the soul through the use of soul energy. You will gain full control over every action of the dead." he stopped then continued. "for the weak or ordinary creatures, you can trap thier soul into any body as long as it is the same species. While for powerful entities, you either trap thier soul into thier own body, or find/create a new compatible body."

The boy was enlightend. It all seem easy, but there was a question bugging him. "what is the difference between souls that are converted to soul energy and souls that are to be reanimated." it didn't seem like an important question after all some would say soul is soul. But, there must be a difference since the oldman once told him souls were to be cleansed before converting them to soul energy.

"good question." the oldman was pleased. It is always good to have an intelligent apprentice than a stupid one. "the souls that are converted to soul energy must be cleansed. When you become more proficient in your soul eye, you will notice some carvings and other raging auras in the soul. This carvings and auras signifies emotions, lifespan, thoughts memories and other things. This things most be wiped off or else the sorcerer will be influenced by the soul. As for reanimating, they are to be left alone since they all affect the strength of the reanimated beings."

the oldman gently explained to him. There had been some sorcerers who didn't know about this, and converted uncleaned soul into thier body. They end up have conflicting personalities which letter pushed them to thier death. This isn't something the oldman wish to see happen to his apprentice.

"then, that means an apprentice sorcerer like me can perform necromancy." garen'm asked eagerly. Though trapping others soul seems evil, he doesn't have time to think about what the dead will feel, only how powerful he can become.

Finally the oldman let out a laugh and killed the boys ambition. "hehehehe Garen, you must have an expert control over soul energy to transmit command to your reanimation. An apprentice like you might be able to reanimate the dead, but cannot give it command. This will definitely spell your doom."

Garen's ambition to instantly create an army of dead was instantly shut down. Though he suddenly thought, if he could increase his spirit attribute more, his control over soul energy would definitely increase. So maybe his wish of creating an undead army might not be fulfilled now but in the near future.

"you might ask why I am telling you this when it actually isn't useful for you yet.

Garen truly hadn't thought of that at all but now that the man was mentioning it, he found out that it seem useless to tell him.

"you will be joining the boss team when he goes to dispose the stolen goods. I need you to deliver something to someone."
