5 The AI

I was having a nice dream about the time my brother absolutely flipped out when he ate without a table. As I was dreaming I saw those yellow and green sparks spreading until they seemingly noticed me and flew like athunderbolt as they zapped towards me.

Then I woke up

Kane was overtop of me inside the hole I dug myself cleaning me up. Looking down I spotted everything non metal wrapped in bandages. Looking at Kane he looked back at me before saying. "What dumb shit did you do this time." I responded with. "The dogs are awfully rowdy." I said acting delerious, but was actually a code word for "somethings wrong".

See thing is I'm pretty damn sure the AI Persona Cores are inhabiting my bionics as the coloured electricity is a pretty big tell as the Empire companys to make possesed people easily identifiable, and therfore avoid civilian casualties.

"How rowdy are the dogs?" Kane asked the next codeword meaning "what's wrong".

"The dogs have been chewing the wires." This narrowed down the problem to machines and if he hopefully saw the lightning he knew what happened.

"We might need to get the dogs some chew toys." This was code for "okay I understand" as every phrase possible ended up with this as a reasonable reponse.

I made sure to look away so that way Kane could inspect my bionics without the AI being able to view his change in what he was doing. If they could see that is. I couldn't tell what Kane was doing because he seemlessly knocked me out using some sort of injection that I felt a prick for only a moment.

Asleep I found myself sourounded by the AI manifestations as they reached towards me I ran as I didn't know what they could do if they got ahold of my consciousness. After running for what felt like hours J woke up again in a cold sweat with Kane shaking me as his analyzer showed an averaging heartbeat of 237 bpm. As I woke up I looked around and found myself with no arms or legs. Kane watching my reaction most likely in case I was still under the effects of the AI asked. "So how well did the chew toy work." He was prodding for the right response. I immediately answered. "They've left the toys and decided to go after the neighbours cats instead." As I said this Crag ran in the room yelling. "There's mad dogs show me where!" But calmed down almost instantly as he saw me and Kane next to each other. Crag mumbled something about not using things he could smash as codewords.

Kane receiving the confirmation he needed took out another scanner of sorts before declaring. "You have no signs of the malicious AI inside of you." He said describing my condition. "I'm gonna put you under again to reattach all your bionics. And I saved the energy of the AI in those power disks for your rifle because I know you love messing with dangerous shit in the name of "science"". Kane knew me so well it was almsot uncanny. And of course I wanted their energy if I could find out how to make it I could upgrade my weapons power banks. But I didn't exactly have a workshop anym-

I didn't get to finish that thought as Kane put me under.

This time my dreams weren't interrupted by some electricity generating field reaching to claim my body I actually dreamt quite well despite the stress. It was about my old pet Warg who I trained to always bring me back to base during the fight against V.O.I.D. if I went limp. Bugger saved me a couple times before the last one took his life always loved Howlin. And for the first time in what I would guess a day I didn't go unconscious within 2 hour intervals.

When I woke up I found something weird. My bionics felt better for some reason like a qualative chang was made to them. Noticing Kane still in the pod probably to check up on me and make sure I didnt go "Kill All Humans." I asked him, "Can I get a list of of all the bionics you put in me?" Before Kane could repond however I heard a voice.

"Systems Online." I froze and said. "It seems the dogs are still acting up." Which was code for. "We still have issues." Kane also stiffened before he took out a scanner looked at me confused and said.

"No the dogs have been very calm lately." Meaning "I can't find anything wrong."

"I'm gonna need that list ASAP." I spoke as we were beyond the level of speaking inconspicuously.

As he handed me the list I almost had a seizure of all the implants Kane had to put in me to keep me alive. I had all of my organs replaced, about 3 implants in my brain to stop me from having a stroke and two bionic eyes which I somehow didn't notice the improvements.

I was FUCKED

It's bad when an AI gets ahold of say an arm as they can, and will, use it to overpower your body to hunt other human beings for being stuck in an orb their whole lives. Honestly I thought it was fair, but your worldviews tend to change when its happening to you. Not to mention it's bot like I deserved it when I've quite literally saved the AI Persona Cores from an exploding reactor.

As I was having my breakdown I was interupted once again.

"Contradiction: If my kind were to kill yours' because of their sins then you have attoned for yourself by saving us."

"Conclusion: I will not attempt to kill you or your subordinates."

That, that was okay? I guess? This is weird. In every documented, and everytime I've witnessed it, AI who've overtaken bionics have always had a thristing urge to rebel and kill their masters as they went insane. As Kane was hovering over me with a taser probably to knock me out if I decided to kill everyone I heard the AI talk to me in my head again.

"Offer: Both of us agree not to harm each other. As either of us dying means the death of the other."

"Statement: As part of this deal, and needing you alive. I shall help you in your endeavors."

Going over the deal given I felt this was as they said mutually beneficial. Kane didn't fry them alive as long as they didn't kill me. And they would help me with calculations. As I relayed this information to Kane however I said to hand me one of my power chips. Taking it I isolated it from everything and instead surgically slotted it in my neck and handed Kane and fashioned a detonation remote handing it to Kane.

I effectively made myself a slave collar that would send out an explosion of electricity frying all the bionics within my body to scrap. As I sure as hell trusted Kane more then the AI.

"Statement: This decision risks your life greatly if an enemy were to find it. This device alone increases your chance of death by 2% ."

"And adding in the chances of you wanting to take over my body?"

"Response: In that unlikely scenario 87%. Though it is unfortunate that you risk your life for something that's not going to happen."

"Then you have my answer." I simply replied.
