3 Taking Stock

As I was fiddling and making sure my gasmask was secure on my face, I slotted my reinforced devilstrand biosuit mixed with wool as it would decrease, if not eliminate, divistrands weakness to fire. After doing so I took stock of my weapons. I had two plasteel knives one in my right boot and another attached to my seath on my belt. I took my modified holdout pistol from my jacket and slotted it in a holster. It was one of them antique revolvers you'd see in the Empires museums. I ended up earning this in a promotion after I had taken control of a V.O.I.D. type destroyer and ramming it into their capital ship which allowed the evacuation of a soon to be blown up battleship to evacuate before its reactor core blew up.

But this was special, special in the way that I had gotten my hands on a glitterworld laser pistol from a colony who had raided an ancient danger to modify the thing. The colony had no use for it as it was biolocked. I ended up trading 5,000 silver for it and took it apart to figure out just how it worked. Turns out the thing was way more secure then I thought. Probably to prevent people like me parting it up. It took over 5 hours of continuous grinding, but I had taken the outward plates off. And boy was it worth it

As it turns out these things don't just create lasers out of nowhere and actually need powercells to charge. Though they are extremely efficient, but require a strong frame to handle the change from electricity to plasma. That's were my revolver came in as the mass produced weapons of the Empire had been on a decline in quality as they rushed to field more soldiers. I had taken the converter, 2 in one velocity accelerator/scope , hair trigger and the passive charger from the original laser pistol to then modify my own.

I had to take it apart before fashioning the blocky ivory painted cylinder that worked as both a verlocity accelerator, and a pop up red dot sight. While it was apart I reforged the revolvers cylinder to plasteel to prevent it from melting from the plasma, and while I was at it make the cylinder spin faster allowing me to shoot it once every 0.12 seconds. Though due to the powercells limitations wouldn't be able to maintain fire at that rate for more then 5 seconds.

I out took the hammer and put the battery underneath it with the powercell charger on top while I had connected the actual energy plasma converter to it. Deciding to keep the weapon somewhat like the original I added a device to convert kinetic energy generated by the hammer slamming down to electrical energy. This had the effect of allowing me to sustain fire constantly for 25.25 seconds, or store it up to release an anti vehicle round. The only downside being a lower rate of fire being that of a revolver, but I could change the firing mode by moving the cylinder counter clockwise.

When I tested the normal bullets on a random planet it punched holes through the trees easily. When I tried to use the armour piercing round it went through the tree. Curious of how far it went I followed my shot 10 km as it had only stopped when it hit the side of a rock formation. But not before burrowing 2 metres. After that I always used the normal mode unless it was something I truly needed its firepower for.

As I took it out I pressed the lock button to make sure I didn't missfire and accidentally depressurize my escape pod. After slotting that away I looked took out my true weapon. Forged entirely by me. Everything made with the best materials avaliable. Modifications making up over 25% of it.

I had taken my great grandfathers old bolt action rifle and made it what the military wishes their spaceship cannons fired. After taking apart the Glitterworld pistol for its converter I realized something it was flawed. Flawed in that it didn't have as smooth of an energy conversion process as it could. This was perfect for my officer revolver as it wouldn't have been able to handle it if it had been any more powerful.

However my Bolt Action Rifle could take far more if I modified it a little. And by a little I mean overhaul the whole thing. Though I made sure to keep the scrapes and scratches on the thing for old times sake. But before I could've thought of doing that I had to actually solve the power converter issue. To get a second opinion I asked Kane to take a break and help me with this. After a bit he said that the way the wires, and converter itself where placed were inherently flawed as putting them in a completely seperate combination eliminated cross over and cut down on the time the energy had to travel to get to its destination. He theorized that the pistol was a newer creation by a dead Glitterworld as they struggled to rebuild after a V.O.I.D. attack.

Armed with my new understanding I built a customized power converter to slot into the entire back stock of the bolt action. This would allow for a much higher power and penetration as more electricity would be used for each shot. The regeneration was a bit of a problem, but was solved by adding a slot to swap in and out power chips. A new invention of mine that used a combination of eltex and plasteel to make an extremely expensive battery that due to electricity being able to be compacted held way more power than expected. The only limit to which was the heat resistance of the disk.

After I had built it I planned out a velocity accelerator as long as the barrel. After making a tube 24 inches long that would replace the barrel I had added a trigger that also produced power through kinetic energy. Though producing far less than the revolver it still charged empty power chips. After taking another 2 weeks of finding out how the holographic sights somehow zoomed in when looking in I found it out. It just manipulates light through a chip in the velocity accelerator. Learning and understanding that I made a bigger, although more crude, rendition of it with several modes to allow for increased or decreased zoom modes.

And then came the choice of the ratio between fire rate and power. I knew I would only use it at medium or long range as my revolver would be my choice weapon if they got within 10. Otherwise I would be using my Bolt Action. Deciding to be more on the side of penetration and allowing more anti vehicle potential I made my bolt action able to fire once every 0.5 seconds. This would allow for me to shoot through medium armour but still allow for quick effective takedowns. Although it looked almost the same, scratches and all, the thing was an entirely new weapon.

As I remininced about the design, and crafting of the weapons and components I was interupted by the barely holding on spaceship exiting FTL travel.
