Prologue

"Super powered children, how did you even begin to understand such a thing?" A woman sat behind a desk, her smile comically large as she looked over the well-dressed man that sat on the couch only a few steps away.

"Well, you see," He started, taking his glasses off his face and cleaning them with a small cloth he withdrew from his pocket, a vivid gold ring shaped like a crown sparkled in the camera light. A very pregnant woman sat in her hospital bed with both eyes turned to the screen. Letting her fingers roll over her stomach as a nurse fussed with the bag hanging beside her. The bag held a vivid blue liquid that seemed to shimmer in the dying sunlight of the hospital room.

"I found this artifact, I can't explain to you how," He fiddled with the ring for a few heartbeats, "It belonged to a Deity known as Proelefsi. And well, let's say it really opened up some possibilities," He chuckled as he spoke.

"So some type of...God...gave you the formula to make these superheroes? Why can't you do this experiment with adults?"

The man cleared his throat a few times, "It needs to start from the womb, I've found adults aren't as susceptible to the formula as unborn children."

The pregnant woman winced as the liquid from the bag drained into her veins. She squirmed as the blue liquid turned to a brilliant golden light. Filled her pale arms and vanished heartbeats later.

"Gold is cool," The nurse whispered, jotting down a few notes, "Yours is always gold, I wonder if that will tell us the powers it'll have. Patty in the room over has red, and Tina a few doors down has purple," The pregnant lady didn't say anything, turning attention back to the television. She could hear the other women in the rooms around her, the soft cries of pain as, they too, were fed the strange liquid.

"So you're here trying to convince people to give you grants for these human experiments," The host asked boldly, she didn't approve it seemed.

"That is where you're wrong, these children will be brought up in a school. They wi–"

"But how do we know that you're not hurting these children? Or their parents?" She challenged him, a small growl in her throat as she spoke.

"You must understand, if we want to protect ourselves from the rising threat in Russia we will need these children. Their powers will not be like the comic books," He fiddled anxiously with his tie as he spoke, "Stronger, faster, I'm essentially making a super human. We only request twenty or so fetuses for this experiment-"

"Hah," The nurse snorted, glaring up at the television screen. "This is our second batch of kids, we're at a hundred now. That is, if everyone's born okay," she stood up straight, adjusting her bushy hair, "Why are you watching this old tape?"

The pregnant woman didn't answer again, she continued to roll her hands over her stomach. Pale blue eyes locked on the screen.

"My own child will be part of this," The man continued, "That's how sure I am of what I'm doing,"

"Penelope," The nurse said, waving a hand in front of the others face, "I know you can hear me, girl,"

Penelope blinked a few times and glanced at the other, "Oh sorry, it was Howe's first time on TV." she murmured, "Before...I got this big," She chuckled softly as she watched her old self step on stage. "I guess it brings me some comfort when he's not here,"

"This experiment has my family in it. You can trust me when I say, this will change the world. God gave me this gift to bestow upon you all, trust me,"

The nurse reached up and pressed the button to turn the television off. Placing her hands on her hips, "Penelope are...you sure you're wanting to do this? I know you're eight months along but I can help you. I can give you a place to stay, you and Seventy Fi-"

"Forrest, his name...is, Forrest"

The nurse gave the other a small smile, nodding "Forrest,"

"No Abeba, I don't think I can get out of this now," She murmured, racing her fingers against her stomach.

"How do you know he'll be a boy?" Abeba asked, checking the notes for the gender.

"A mother just knows," She sighed, "Forrest is going to be born a superhero, he's going to save...all of us..."
