"Right... I'm not surprised anymore that you're on my bed," muttered Mika.
'I'm feeling very dehydrated after sleeping for 18 hours. I'll get some water... I hope they have some,' he said to himself as he walked out of the room.
"Oh, you're already up, adventurer," greeted the owner.
"Do you have any water?" Mika asked.
"Well, we don't have water, but we do have bottled milk. You won't find any water here, adventurer. It's either alcohol or milk," the owner replied.
"How much are they?" Mika asked.
"Well, it's on the house," the owner said as he slid four bottles of milk toward Mika.
Mika took them and left eight silver coins on the table before heading back to his room.
"Oh, you're already up," Mika said as he walked into the room and saw Airi sitting in a unique posture.
"At least knock first," Airi said, her wings wrapped tightly around her.
"Here, have some milk," Mika said, handing Airi a bottle.
"I want your milk instead," Airi said with a sultry tone.
Mika raised an eyebrow. "I'd get sleepy afterward, so stop being so sexually aroused."
Airi answered with a pout, avoiding his gaze.
"Let's just walk around the town," Mika sighed, feeling restless.
He left the room and Airi waited for a moment before quietly following him, trying to remain unnoticed.
Mika was already aware of Airi's presence when he reached the tavern door and he held it open, saying, "Ladies first."
"I hate your awareness," Airi grumbled as she walked past him.
The town was filled with the sounds of swords clanking, animals braying, and people shouting "For Honor!"
Mika and Airi strolled through the bustling streets, taking in the sights and sounds of the town.
They passed by a blacksmith's shop where sparks flew as the smith worked on a piece of armor.
As they continued, Mika noticed a group of adventurers gathered in the town square, talking excitedly about a recent battle.
He approached them, hoping to gather some information.
"Hello, can I ask where is the adventurers' guild?" Mika asked, trying to sound casual.
The group of adventurers looked at each other before bursting into laughter.
"Is this your first time here?" One of them said between laughs.
"Hahaha, this man is clueless." Another added, wiping away a tear.
Mika was about to leave when one of them finally took pity on him.
"Bellatorum is just one big adventurers' guild," she explained.
"You can fulfill your monthly quest requirement by winning duels that are organized by the king or duel others to increase your adventurer rank."
"In here, adventurers can duel each other to increase or decrease their adventurer rank," another chimed in. "You can ask the Royalty's church to add an extension to your adventurer ID card. So when you tap it with others, you're in a duel. If you win, you increase your adventurer rank while decreasing the opponent."
Mika nodded, grateful for the information. "Thank you."
"You're welcome," the woman replied, smiling kindly.
While Mika was busy inquiring about the Adventurers' Guild, Airi was captivated by watching dogs breeding.
"Is it that entertaining?" Mika asked as he joined Airi, squatting beside her.
"Eek!" Airi was surprised and immediately stood up.
"Let's go to the Royalty's Church, it's located beside the King's Castle, which is like two days of walking," Mika said.
Airi groaned out of boredom.
"It's just like thirty minutes of gliding, let's go," Mika suggested, as he threw a cube that instantly unfolded into a Steam Strider.
With that, they soared through the skies toward the Royalty's Church.
---
Wyvernwing 6th, Bellatorum, Royalty's church, 10:40 AM.
---
As they stepped through the towering doors of Royalty's church, the two adventurers were struck by the grandeur of the space before them.
The walls were made of intricately carved stone, adorned with statues of saints and angels that seemed to come to life in the flickering candlelight.
Above, the vaulted ceiling was painted with scenes from the gods and goddesses of the world, depicting everything from creation to destruction.
The altar was a masterpiece of craftsmanship, with intricate patterns of gold and silver woven into its surface.
It was flanked by towering columns that reached up to the ceiling, each one adorned with carved reliefs depicting the stories of the divine.
Behind the altar, a massive stained-glass window bathed the space in a rainbow of colors, casting a warm glow across the faces of the worshippers.
In the pews, the adventurers could see people from all walks of life - wizards and warriors, peasants and nobles, all gathered together in this sacred space.
They bowed their heads in prayer, murmured incantations under their breath, and lit candles in offering to the gods.
As they made their way toward the front of the church, the adventurers noticed a small chapel off to the side.
Inside, they saw a beautiful statue of the goddess of compassion, her hands held out in a gesture of kindness.
The walls of the chapel were adorned with flickering candles and offerings of flowers and prayers, evidence of the deep devotion of the church's congregation.
The entire space was suffused with a sense of reverence and awe, a feeling that the adventurers found both humbling and inspiring.
"Welcome to our church," the member greeted the adventurers with a gentle smile.
"How may I help you, adventurer?" His soothing voice added a touch of warmth to the otherwise formal setting.
Mika spoke up. "We would like to add an extension to our adventurer ID card."
"Understood," the member nodded. "Follow me, adventurers."
They traversed the spacious church for a while, taking in the intricate details of the stained glass windows and the grand archways that towered above them.
Eventually, they arrived at the receptionist's table.
"Adventurer ID card extension?" the receptionist inquired.
"Yes," they replied in unison, handing over their ID cards to the receptionist.
The receptionist took the cards and promptly placed them on a serving tray under her table.
Without delay, she handed the tray over to another person who scurried off to handle the task.
"You may wait an hour," the receptionist informed them.
The adventurers settled down in the waiting room, trying to make themselves comfortable in the ornate chairs.
"Woof," Airi barked, quite literally.
She had been trying to get Mika's attention for what seemed like ages, but he had been ignoring her.
"What do you want?" Mika asked, his tone devoid of emotion.
"Pat me," Airi said, her voice filled with longing.
But once again, Mika paid her no heed and instead took out a book from his backpack and started to write.
"What are you writing?" Airi asked, curiosity lacing her tone.
She looked over Mika's shoulder and saw a drawing of herself on the page.
"Isn't that a drawing of me?" Airi asked, her ears perking up.
"No, it's just a drawing of an attention-seeker demon," Mika replied, his voice tinged with sarcasm.
"Jeez, you even drew me naked and wrote down all my spells, abilities, and even my measurements," Airi exclaimed, her face turning red with embarrassment. "Why would you do that?"
"Just in case," Mika said nonchalantly, his attention still focused on the book.
"Just in case of what?" Airi demanded, her frustration mounting.
"If you get kidnapped, but at that point, you would just call old Alaric," Mika said casually as if it were the most normal thing in the world.
"Hmph!" Airi turned her head and pouted, feeling a little hurt that Mika didn't seem to take her safety seriously.
After what felt like an eternity, their names were finally called out.
"Mika and Airi," the receptionist said in a soothing tone.
"Here," Mika replied, quickly closing his book and making his way to the front desk with Airi by his side.
"Here would be your adventurer ID cards with the extension," the receptionist said, sliding two cards across the desk.
Mika inspected the cards closely. 'The only difference is that they inscribed a purple gemstone on it,' he thought to himself.
"How much does it cost?" Mika inquired.
"Since you are a D-ranked adventurer, it will be one gold coin for each card," the receptionist replied.
"I see, here," Mika said, placing two gold coins on the table.
He picked up the cards and motioned for Airi to follow him.
And with that, they left the room to the statue just beside it.
The town bell rang, indicating midday, and a voice was heard by everyone.
"Let your plans be dark and impenetrable as night, and when you move, fall like a thunderbolt," said the voice.
"I hope we get a normal quest this time," Mika said as they prayed to the statue.
