1 Regression (1)

They call me Kid.

It's not really hard to guess why the other children in the orphanage made fun of me. Anyone couldn't help but make the joke once they hear my name.

"What? You're a kid?"

Then they would laugh about it while I chuckled. Honestly, I didn't find it funny. In fact, I wanted to curse at my parents for giving me that damn name.

But my anger melts away when I see them smiling. It was a carefree action, something hard to do in our situation.

"Sir, let's go."

I heard Tora's voice as she pushed me to the huge portal in the plaza. Blue light instantly filled my vision as I traveled to where the final monster was.

I thought about the final boss we needed to face at the end of the portal.

'The damn Mother Monster.'

It's known as the oldest monster, the very first to arrive, on Earth. It was so long ago that people forgot how and why it came here. But after it appeared, monsters and awakened people started to appear as well.

The mother monster didn't move from its spot. It just kept on sending monsters and humans kept on fighting them.

That happened for tens, no, thousands of years.

It changed one day when stronger-than-recorded monsters appeared. I was eighteen back then when the first S-grade monster showed its face to the world. That very same day, people with multiple abilities started to appear as S-grade hunters.

I was one of them.

One hunter that can deal a final blow to five S-grade monsters gave them, and the people they allow, the right to fight the Mother Monster.

We knew what happens after that.

All will end if we kill the source.

"You're here?"

Tora brushed her blonde hair. Her slightly buff arms showed signs of tension as she looked around.

"Hmm?"

My heart sunk as I followed her gaze.

'Shit.'

Now I understood why she looked tense when she just got here like me.

I closed my eyes and brushed my face with my hands.

"Fuck."

My arms were shaking not because of fear but because of anger that I hadn't felt for a while.

I feel like someone's choking me alive.

The whole apocalypse already made me numb. Can't I just forget these emotions forever? How fucking annoying.

"Sir, didn't we just got here?"

"We did."

The other members entered the portal first. Tora and I were the last ones. So, how the fuck are they all dead?

"Kriekeke!"

Suddenly, an ear-piercing scream came from all directions.

"One.. only one.."

Tora and I looked at each other. One. The S-grade monsters clearly said that we can take multiple people. Monsters can't lie for some reason so I trusted the source. The rest of the clan wanted to fight with me so I... fuck.

"Sir!"

Tora gripped my arm before I charged to the abyss of darkness. She tried to hold me back and her buffy arms allowed her to do so.

But the rage in me only got bigger. I couldn't help but swear at the trap this monster laid for us. We fell for it completely.

"You fucking scammer!"

We can face it but only one was allowed to fight it. They died. I was too dumb to notice. I was too trusting that I forgot they were called monsters for a reason.

"Sir, calm down! It's going to be wasted if we die now."

I barely managed to stop myself after Tora said those words.

'Kid-nim! Please calm down and run! It's going to be wasted if you die now.'

Enzo, my right hand, those were his last words as well.

"Let go."

"Sir."

"It's fine. You can let go now."

Tora stared at me for a few more minutes before letting go. We looked around. There's nothing but darkness around us.

Monsters were not just physical bodies but they can be a type of place too. Is the old monster a freaking dimension?

"Sir, you know what to do, right?"

"...I know."

Tora smiled and bowed her head. She looked like a valiant knight that received an order from her liege. This action made me bite my lips so hard that blood started to trickle down my mouth.

"Tora. I order you to die."

She waited for her orders.

But I sentenced her to death.
