2 My Review

Let's analyze the reader's aspect of the whole problem.

First of all, let's begin with how many steps it takes for you to open the app and go to your [Library].

You open it, have to click the skip button for a novel's/comic's ad, close the daily check-in pop-up, get out of the [Featured] page and click on [Library].

That's too many steps for something as simple as opening an app to see your updates.

Let's remove the ad part since it can be justified as a mean to webnovel to sustain itself.

Why do I start at the [Featured] part and not what I wanted, the [Library]?

I get that webnovel wants you to read more stuff, but first, you want to read your already added fanfics/novels. You want to check its updates. It only serves to annoy me, and I believe most of the users are also with me.

Another annoying thing, every day there is an event notification, which again, is just a disguised ad. The moment that every single day there is an event, either new but mostly just repeated spam, it starts to get annoying.

You also can't turn the novel/fanfic sideways (turn your phone sideways) to show longer writing. This feature was removed a long time ago, and I miss it since it helped my eyes since staring at a little vertical text tires your eyes faster.

Let's go to the most important aspect of this entire platform: The [Ranking]!

I'm going to review the time range aspect of it.

It's overcomplicated, messy, and weird.

All-time, Annual, Bi-Annual, Season, Monthly.

Subdivisions that can be divided again in the filter by Weekly and Monthly.

Why?

These many divisions don't enhance the ranking at all, it just confuses me and many others.

For me, I believe there should only be two rankings: The All-Time, and one dedicated for the new fanfics/novels.

Simple and easy. You guys had this before this system update. It was great. Now? I barely can go through them.

You want to enhance the [Ranking]? Make a rank beside the All-time and New releases, that is based on tags.

You want to read a MHA fanfic? A fantasy novel?

If you click on the tag about them, it shows every single work that has it. No one will look through hundreds of works to find what they wanted. Put a ranking in this or a filter based on the power stones and ta-da! A good feature people will like.

(Obs: For this to work, the tags would need to be enhanced. There are multiple tags for the same subject, such as MHA. There is a BNHA tag, an MHA tag, a bokunohero tag, simply a lot of tags for the same thing. It would need to make a single tag to get all of them in one. Webnovel is working on their AI. Here is good work for it.)

Another problem of the [Ranking]: The abuse of some authors to it, who exploits and bait readers with 18+ covers and content, with little to no plot at all, that use the appeal of new works (new fanfics/novels always get a burst of attention since people like a fresh start and content) and their horniness to farm money on their p@tre*ns and higher ranking.

This is especially true in the fanfic ranking.

They keep releasing and dropping their smut-filled fanfics to abuse those two aspects to the maximum and get money from the community that falls for this trap. This is mercenary work! They also delete the reviews in their work that criticize them. What's the point of a review if the author can just take it down?

(If its because of spam or hate reviews, use the report option. Make the report option work, and you solve this problem too).

This pollutes the ranking in such a way that months ago, I couldn't find any good fanfic at all!

You report them, and it's useless.

Another thing that should be improved is the report function. If it exists, it should work. There are some authors which shall not be named, that are confirmed to have hundreds of reports, and they are here like nothing happened, which probably is what happened since this report doesn't work!

Let's change the subject right now. Let's talk about Webnovel's bots and censorship.

Deleting comments and paragraph comments because they have curse words?

B*llshit.

You allow 18+ stuff, has a tag for it, an age restriction in all fanfics and novels, and now want to censor our comments?

If you want to censor them, be reasonable about it.

There is an age restriction, how about you only apply this censor bot only in minor-age novels/fanfics and let the mature one alone?

I know you guys are Chinese, but c'mon. We are not talking about communism or capitalism here, not talking about your president looking like Pooh. These are just curse words, a way to express yourself, both positively and negatively.

(To all Chineses, this is to roast webnovel, they are a Chinese company, not you personally. I have Chinese friends, I swear.)

Example:

This chapter is f*cking awesome!

See? Curse words can be good.

It's a way to express ourselves which we use a lot on the internet. For us users, this is the same as losing an arm.

It's also useless since we will just find new ways to curse without getting caught by the bots. It's almost like webnovel workers never used the internet, ever.

Now, let's see the author aspect of this. As an author, I have some experience of my own.

Ink Stone, webnovel's writing platform, is too ordinary.

How?

It doesn't allow special text such as italics or bold words, which are essential and help immensely the author to express what they want, and raises the quality of the writing.

Just look at some good stuff in Fanfiction"dot"net

The censorship in links also disturbs our writing.

I get that you don't want links in your website/app to other stuff, but sometimes author wants to place 3 "W" in a row for an effect, but instead get "***". Find a new way to censor them, because the "W" thing is more of a bother than a safeguard.

An option to enable/disable auto-save while you write you also be welcomed by all authors, that lost their work.

I say this to enlignten all webnovel employees, readers, and authors.

If we don't say anything, it will continue to stay bad as it is.
