1 Birthday Party

I stumbled upon fascination, a wonderful and beautiful figure whose eyes glowed in the night that destined our gazes to meet at last. Only then, I was revealed, in the utter complexity of her beauty and my everlasting obsession and ecstasy that it brought me. My own excitement made me laugh as I saw vision of a twisted game that I had been waiting for with impatience.

"Hey, I'm Miles. I work here, how may I help you?" I asked with gentleness in my voice as I slowly lured her under my spell.

"Hey, I'm just looking for a gift for my mom, she loves this store and it's her birthday tomorrow. What would you recommend?" Her voice resembled my head with such delicacy and innocence that signalled me towards her naiveness.

"It depends on your mother's taste, however, we have this angel figure that has been sold a lot lately. Would you like to see it?" I offered.

"Sure! Thank you so much, I was literally going to just grab the first thing I saw, to be honest with you.." She had already left her guard down, and I was sure going to take my approach.

"Well, good thing I showed up then. Follow me please." I walked towards one of the front desks and grabbed the figurine box while opening it and exposing its true texture to her.

"That's lovely! Wow, she's going to love it." She smiled as she grabbed the box and thanked me for my help. As I headed towards the cash machine, I smiled back and let out a sigh.

"What's wrong?"

"Oh, nothing, it's alright.." I scanned the product and announced the price to her.

"No, tell me. You helped me... The least I can do is cheer you up." She stammered on her words as she exposed her worry.

"Well I had made plans with a couple of friends but they cancelled. I'm just a bit worried about going home tomorrow since I was hoping I'd spend the weekend out." Half of what I said was true though I intended to spend the weekend with her instead.

"Why are you worried? Do you have any issues at home?"

"Something like that…" I chuckled. "It's alright though, I'll deal with it."

She paused in thought, seemingly coming up with a way to solve my issue. Quietly, she handed in the cash and laid hold of the receipt. Then, she looked at me with her breath-taking green eyes, and said: "Would you like to come with me to my mother's birthday tomorrow?"

Taken a bit back from her offer, I caught myself longing for more; my instincts told me she'd entertain my desires, and so I agreed to come with her. She gave me her phone number and her address, as we agreed on my arrival at 11 a.m.

The next day, I woke up early as I knew my father would get home around 9 in the morning, and I wanted to leave before he arrived. The house was quiet almost as if it embraced my presence and, though it was quite small, there was a lot of space between the grey laminate floor tiles and the solid white walls that surrounded it. I hurried to the bathroom with a towel in hand and took a short bath.

Once I was ready, I looked in the long mirror that hung in my room and contemplated my outfit, as I had given it a lot of thought. It consisted of a black crew neck with a white slim fit underneath, tucked in with black cargo pants and black combat boots.

As I headed out, I noticed one of my neighbours observing me, so I decided to give him a visit.

"Going somewhere, are you Miles?" He asked with his ongoing everlasting charm, which never left him no matter how early it was. We have been neighbours for 3 years now since I moved in with my father after my mother's death, and he's always had a soft side towards me for some reason.

"Yes, I am Nathan," I answered. Even though it had been my idea to greet him, I had no idea how to interact with him; after all these years I just never knew how to.

"Great, where you going?"

"Work," I lied with no intentions of giving him any information.

"On a Saturday? Damn, that sucks..."

"You know, people still go shopping on weekends, and there's gotta be someone there to help them out." Now I was just trying to convince him of something that didn't need convincing, though I stopped myself from regretting my defence since I've always hated any kind of doubt towards my statements.

"Yeah, no you're right. Take care then, I've got a birthday party I must be getting to soon."

"What?" Now, this caught me off guard so my reaction wasn't filtered at all, which might have alerted Nathan.

"Yeah, I'm sure I've mentioned you about Celeste a couple times now. She's hosting a party today." He didn't seem to have noticed my reaction because he remained seated in his front yard and replied calmly.

"Sounds fun. I'll get going now then." I turned around and drowned my mind in thought. I wondered how likely the odds would be of it being the same birthday party, of course, I could cover up my lie with another lie, but that wouldn't make it fun.

I walked a few minutes until I reached the bus stop and waited with sublime impatience. Her house should be about 15 minutes away by car, though it'd take me 35 to get there by bus. I hadn't been able to get my driver's licence because it had taken me a while to recover from my mom's death.

The bus arrived soon, and I walked in without any need to look at the driver. As I sat down, I felt his eyes on me through the rearview, though soon he turned his gaze on the road and continued driving. It had always been amusing to know what every person thought of me, as everyone would react differently to my actions, and yet most of the people I knew thought of me very well. With that in mind, I wondered what that girl would think of me, as I had forgotten to ask her name.

Once I arrived, I contemplated the luxurious and impressive house I was about to enter, as it was at least 3 times bigger than mine. The entrance was decorated with red and white balloons and a banner that said: "Happy birthday Karol". Knocking on the door, I smiled at the sight of her being so close to the door, as if she'd been waiting for me.

"You're here!" She cheered and hugged me tightly. The feelings of her arms around me filled me with excitement that provoked me to hug her back.

"Yes, I am. Did you think I wasn't going to come?" I teased, trying to find out how she felt about my arrival.

"I wasn't sure you'd come, but I'm glad you did. Come on in now, let me introduce you to everyone." She let me in and smiled ever so slightly that filled my existence with purpose.

"I forgot to ask you something. What's your name?" I asked curiously.

"Celeste." She smiled again as she looked at me in the eyes. Her face was now covered in makeup, though it'd looked well with her glowing green eyes and brown long hair.

I kneeled and asked for her hand, which she gave me a bit surprised. "Nice to meet you, Celeste, you look beautiful today." I smiled and kissed her hand softly as I caught a glimpse of her blushing.
