35 **Chapter 35: Hopes and Dreams**

Hey guys, today I want to give a shoutout to the original author of *Reverend Insanity*. He has released a new book.

I personally saw it on Fenrirtranslations titled: *Advent of Immortal Truth*.

Also, shoutout to Supernerd4000 for being the first person in the Discord to mention that Gu Zhen Ren had a new novel.

By the way, it has 30+ chapters, and I haven't started reading it yet.

1. If you were a Gu Immortal (rank 6), would you absorb a piece of any of the heavens to avoid tribulations?

2. Are you excited for Gu Zhen Ren's new novel?

3. What is your favorite song at the moment?

*POV: Fei Yu Wei Li*

"Your first obstacle will be a test of luck."

While the immortal said this, the number 2 appeared on the wall in front of me.

Turning my head, I see that sure enough the number 1 appeared on the wall on my left, and the number 3 appeared on the wall on my right.

'He said it was a test of luck… '

'So I guess I will have to choose one of the walls…'

"Hahahaha…."

"Me, an A-Grade Talent, with an Aperture filled to 95% and the one that is destined to become the leader of the Fei Yu clan is being tested for luck??"

"This inheritance is rightfully mine!"

"Just look at who I am, and find me anyone that would call me unlucky!"

*Huff*

*Huff*

'Hahaha look at me getting all worked up looking at a wall… hahaha'

Raising my hand to point at the wall in front of me, I yell:

"I choose number one!"

*Crickets*

'Hmmm…. Is this broken?'

I had to get to the bottom of this, as I could not be eliminated from the inheritance because of a mistake.

"Hello, anyone there?" I raise my hand to alert someone that was perhaps on the other side of my situation.

*Knock*

The moment my hand touched the wall, I began feeling the breeze of the ocean on my face again.

Because of the shock of being teleported without prior warning, it took me about half a minute to adjust to my situation.

There were a few dozen others at the spot I was standing at, most of them looking as confused as I was.

"Are we out? Hahaha yes, we are safe…. Saved…." a girl next to me was screaming in ecstasy.

She might have been a rank 1 initial stage gu master, or from a small clan or even just a person that is not very competitive. But this did not matter to me, as I realized that I have been eliminated from the inheritance before it even seriously started.

'No no no this cannot be happening to me….'

*One week later*

In the pouring rain of the Fei Yu island stood a young man with short black hair.

*Swoosh*

*Splash*

*Cracks*

The sound of his wind blades cutting through the air, and then the puppets the young gu master trained with was suppressed by the raging storm and thunder.

What he was doing was a common exercise of gu masters that choose a wind path gu as their vital one.

Trying to hit a target in a storm might sound simple, but the storm was interfering in the path of the wind blades, making it a frustrating but rewarding task.

There were some Gu Masters who trained in this until they could not miss anymore. The ones that had enough dedication and patience would be practically unable to miss when there was no storm.

*Swoosh*

"… Wei Li…"

"….Wei Li….. "

"This kid is not hearing me.."

"Wei Li, I have been calling you," an unfamiliar gu master said as he walked up and tapped the young one on the shoulder.

"Huh… "

"Oh uncle Chen! Nice to see you."

The man, who was referred to as Uncle Chen, seemed to be in a difficult position, if his facial expression was anything to go by.

"But, you are not supposed to bring me my monthly allowance of primeval stones until next week? So what brings you here?"

"About that…" the man paused, as the awkward expression on his face became more pronounced.

"It's about your master, the second elder."

"What about master Bin?"

"He has decided to part ways with you, after your disappointing performance in the inheritance."

Devastation.

This is the feeling that would best describe Wei Li's state right now. One that he had plenty of time familiarizing himself with in the past week.

"I understand," he said without any expression on his face.

The rank 2 Gu Master with the surname Chen stood before the young man for a moment, seemingly contemplating saying something to encourage him.

But he opened his mouth, then closed it again. This repeated a few times, until he decided to leave.

His only hope being that the A-Grade Talent would not hold a grudge against the bearer of bad news….

*"Me, an A-Grade Talent, with an Aperture filled to 95% and the one that is destined to become the leader of the Fei Yu clan is being tested for luck??"

"This inheritance is rightfully mine!"

"Just look at who I am, and find me anyone that would call me unlucky!"*

What had only a week prior been his thoughts now became his insecurity, being repeated relentlessly in his own mind.

If he could overcome it was unknown.

The only thing he knew was that he has to reach rank 2…. as soon as he can, or he would be trampled and humiliated by his peers that still had a shot at the inheritance.

'Damned Elder, damned immortal, damned clan…. '

......

*POV: Fei Yu Mu Bao*

*Knock*

*Knock*

*Knock*

The wooden door to one of the less expensive houses in the outskirts on Fei Yu island opened with a creak.

What waited for me on the other side was a rank 2 Gu Master, wearing a blue robe and green boots, standing there with a patient and respectful expression on his face that changed into a smile as soon as he saw me open the door.

Behind him were two mortal servants, both of them very muscular men, over two meters tall. My gaze wandered to his feet, before which stood a small wooden box.

'So like the others… no surprises here…'

Despite my cynicism of the situation repeating itself about half a dozen times over the last few days, I remained respectful as I addressed the Gu Master.

"So Senior, what brings you to my humble Abode?"

"Oh… forgive me for being rude, please come inside…."

This was already more courtesy than a rank 2, someone of the same rank as I deserved, but as he was here on the orders of an elder, I did not want to risk antagonizing him.

"No...no…. I am just here to deliver Elder Long's Regards…"

As he waved his hands, the two servants from behind him walked around him to retrieve the small wooden box from the ground.

*Grunt*

Their arms swelled and their breath quickened, signifying that the box that was only 10x10x20 centimeters was home to something way heavier.

Only after the servants had picked up the box, and seemed to be struggling every moment, did the gu master ask again:

"Where is the best place to put this gift for you, young master?"

"Hmmm"

I stretched out my left hand, with it and my forearm both having so many throbbing muscles, that any mortal that saw them would be shocked that they did not belong to an animal, but a human… or rather a gu master.

With no effort whatsoever, I grab the wooden box and without letting my curiosity get the best of me, I just hold it on the left side of my body. Something I could only do because I was a rank 2 gu master, that focused on gu that enhance strength, as well as the gifts I got from a lot of other elders.

I could not help but feel a bit happy about my progress.

'Elder Long…. Hmmm '

"In that case, please deliver my greetings to Elder Long."

"Naturally, young master Mu!"

After closing the door, I walk into my living room and place this box of gifts next to the other ones, 10 in total.

What they were trying to do, was recruit me to their side, as without sounding arrogant, I was a prime candidate.

In the inheritance, I had passed the test of luck, gaining me 50 points, and after that, I have proven myself by becoming the 8th place. Which was the second highest place for anyone in the clan.

And with the first place, Zhen Wei being firmly in the third elder's camp, and me being associated with no elders at all, it was not hard to see where this was going.

This led to a fierce competition to gain my favor, and hence these gifts that had been delivered to me.

I have received gifts from 6 rank 3 peak stage elders, these being the ones that have hope and ambitions for rank 4 and maybe even 5, as well as 4 of the 6 rank 4 elders of the clan.

The only notable figures missing were the clan leader, the third elder that already had Zhen Wei in his faction as well as the sixth elder, that is leading the caravan and is not even in the clan at the moment.

*Creak*

Ripping off the lid of the wooden box, I had just been gifted with my bare hands, I am greeted by a 5cm³ metal cube.

'Refined Deepdark Iron…. An expensive rank 3 Gu Material…'

This was consistent with all the other gifts, nobody gifted me any gu, just expensive rank 3 and 4 materials.

Some were more expensive than others, but they were all more or less in the same price class, plus minus a few thousand primeval stones.

As I looked at the materials on my living room table, I could not help but think:

'This seems coordinated… like an unspoken message, telling me I need to choose a side, bind myself before the real benefits come rolling in…'

'Now the question is, is it the right time to choose a side?'

At the moment, I am the best possible choice for them to recruit, and if I wait for the next round of the inheritance, there is a chance of me not doing as well. That is the best bad case as well as the risk of dying or being seriously injured was real, not to mention being surpassed by the competition in the other clans.

Like take Wei Li as an example, he has 17% more talent than I do, but I am a rank 2 while he is not, just because his spirit was crushed. I guess what I am trying to say is that, one moment you can have the advantage, the luxury of choice and the next you have nothing.

'You can go from top of the world to beneath someone's boot in a split second...'

'So it's decided then, I will choose a side. But which one will benefit me the most.'

The rank 4 elders are higher risk, higher reward, they are richer, but also more likely to abandon you at the drop of a hat.

While the rank 3 peak stage elders are less likely to abandon me, they are also less likely to help me a long way into winning the inheritance or even become the clan leader.

'So rank 4 it is, but which one???'

The first Elder, the protector of the Treasury and the spirit spring.

The second elder, that leads the military hall.

The fourth elder, leader of the medical hall.

And finally the fifth elder that leads the Mission hall.

For me, the medical hall elder can be eliminated directly, as it does not conform to the path I as a gu master want to go. He might be rich, but his biggest advantage is only his wealth in the end.

The second one to be eliminated is the Military Hall Elder, as either he still has Wei Li in his faction, diminishing the resources I can get, or he kicked Wei Li out, which does not bode well for my future….

This leaves me with the first elder, arguably the strongest and from the faction of the clan leader.

As well as the Mission Hall Elder, who was somewhere in the middle in both strength and wealth, but did not really dabble in politics.
