3 Chapter 3 Ye Clan caravan

Hello,

I wanted to inform you that I will be changing the name used for our main character from Arthur to Zhao Wen now that he is aware of his true identity. Moving forward, I will use Zhao Wen's point of view to refer to the MC.

Zhao Wen / Arthur POV

After encountering Yu Sha Squad Zhao Wen had been hurried back to the camp, the Ye clan caravan had set up their campsite on an elevated rock formation.

The Yu Sha squad had of course used their healing Gu on Zhao Wen but these rank 1 and 2 Gu could only close the minor to intermediate cuts on Zhao Wen's body.

As Zhao Wen watched the campsite he saw Gu masters erecting stone palisades around the edge of the rock formation, Ye Mo Su which apparently was the name of the rank 1 peak stage Gu master kept on pestering him the entire journey to the camp.

Much of what Mo Su talked about was his and the original Zhao Wen's adventures in the Ye Clans Gu academy. Apparently, the original Zhao Wen had been one of the three leaders of their year, he together with the second son of the clan leader and the fourth daughter of the second supreme elder had been the overlords of their year creating groups of followers and fighting for the position of class leader.

As Mo Su told it the original Zhao Wen had been the clear leader suppressing all opposition with his great strength only being defeated when the other two teamed up to defeat him.

Though Zhao Wen was uncertain about how much of this was true information and how much was Mo Su´s exaggerations as the group approached the gate they were stopped by a rank 2 upper stage guard.

" Wang Lei, what are you doing here? Your Yu Sha squad should be patrolling right now. "

"Brother Li Wei we are in a hurry, we need to get Zhao Wen to the medical tent as soon as possible. "

" Alright if its an emergency go through quickly "

As the group approached the center of the camp where the medical tent was located they drew the attention of the idle Gu masters around the camp.

" What is this commotion? The medical tent is a place of healing, it is not a place for you all to loiter around. "

Out of the medical tent stepped a middle-aged man clad in ornate robes clearly bearing the sigil of an elder and a badge of a rank 3 Gu master.

Seeing the elder step out of the medical tent Mo Su shouted

" Elder Du! Come quickly Zhao Wen needs medical attention. "

A frown of annoyance appeared on the face of Elder Du as Mo Su´s shout reached him. However this frown quickly morphed into one of concern as he observed Zhao Wen´s condition.

" You all disperse and go back to your assigned duties, I will take care of Zhao Wen's injuries."

Elder Ye Chen Wu POV

Chen Wu sighed as he went through the information path Gu worm containing the report on the caravan's losses during the snake tide. This was the fifth time that Chen Wu read through it and the feeling of heartache only grew stronger as the time to return to Ye hu oasis approached.

[Why did a disaster like this happen when I was responsible for the safety of the annual trading caravan? The entire material wagon gone. Sigh we made such a huge loss buying the large batch of Big Soul Gu that the second supreme elder wanted. ]

Putting the Gu worm back into his aperture Chen Wu moved to the window looking out at the

Gu masters and beasts scurrying around preparing the camp for the approach of night.

[I wonder if the Hong Mo troop has finished their assignment yet? That rank 4 inheritance would allow me to avoid clan leaders and uncles' anger about the caravan and give me huge merits. I'm almost ready to attempt to break through to rank 4, the heavens truly favor me, sending a rank 4 inheritance with rank 4 Gu my way.]

Smiling faintly Chen Wu observed as the rank 1 and rank 2 Gu masters started erecting the camp defenses.

[that foolish brat Zhao Wen thought he could hide a rank 4 inheritance from me, a rank 3 peak stage expert. He was clearly afraid I would use the excuse of guarding the treasure to confiscate it, hmph naive child now that no one knows you have such a treasure. I can use special means to take it from you without needing to give you some petty compensation.]

Thinking of Zhao Wen brought back unpleasant memories

[it is good that bi*ch Jia Shui and her dog husband Zhao Ping are dead, how dare they have ambitions of rising to the top? How dare they spit in the face of my Chen Branch? The snake tide was clearly a punishment from the heavens for their greed and audacity.]

Hearing this Chen Wu frowned, Elder Du was from the same generation as his uncle and was a rank 3 upper stage healing Gu master responsible for the medical tent.

Elder Du had always been firmly in the camp of the second supreme elder. In fact the reason Elder Du even accompanied Chen Wu and the Zhao couple on this trading mission was as the eyes and ears of the second supreme elder.

Turning around to face the door Chen Wu said

Zhao Wen / Arthur POV

Three days later.

Zhao Wen was sitting in silence contemplating his situation. It had been over three days since he had arrived in this world and finally, he was starting to understand the situation that he found himself in.

Sighing he closed his eyes and recalled what he had learned over the past few days.

The original Zhao Wen was the child of Ye Zhao Ping and Ye Jia Shui, both of whom were elders in the Ye clan. He had great aptitude being a B grade talent with 78 % primeval essence almost guaranteeing that he could reach rank 4 in his lifetime. He had not slacked in his cultivation either reaching rank 2 peak stage at the age of 19, he had been preparing to attempt a breakthrough to rank 3 when tragedy struck.

The Ye clan caravan that his family was assigned to had been attacked by a thousand rock python snake beast group led by two thousand beast kings. Zhao Wen's parents died defending the Gu materials the caravan was transporting.

Zhao Wen looked with complicated eyes at the dark ladybug Gu, this thing had likely been the reason for the original's death. 

[It is likely that the fight to the death the original had with those bandits was because of this Gu. sigh, this world truly is nothing like the relatively comfortable one I lived in before.]

Zhao Wen had been forced to avoid anything related to his aperture as it healed from whatever crazy move the original had pulled to save himself. Observing his aperture Zhao Wen came to a conclusion.

[ it seems the rifts in the aperture have closed, according to Elder Du that means that I can now start using my primeval essence without running the risk of damaging my aperture. It truly is unfortunate that whatever the original owner of this body did, it caused the aptitude to drop from 78% to 68% primeval essence. When I attempt to advance to rank 4 and 5 this will be a big hindrance, I might even need a talent-increasing Gu if I want to become an immortal.]

" well here goes nothing. " he muttered as he started his attempt to refine the Gu.

As Zhao Wen started his attempt he was expecting one of two outcomes, one that the will inside the Gu would resist him if this occurred then he could say goodbye to any aspiration of getting this Gu. The second option was that the will inside would assist him in refining the Gu.

What instead happened confused Zhao Wen, he clearly felt that the will inside was resisting but it was incredibly weak. The will inside was like a dying old man incapable of mustering any resistance as Zhao Wen refined the Gu.

Having completed the refinement Zhao Wen quickly learned that the dark ladybug was a storage type Gu worm.

[strange? Why was it so easy to refine this rank 4 Gu? I'm sure the will was resisting me but why was it so weak? Hmmm, I can ponder on this later. I need to see what is inside of this Gu.]

Sending his awareness inside the Gu, the ladybug's wings opened and revealed its contents.

Floating inside the revealed space was seven Gu of various shapes and ranks, some miscellaneous goods like clothes and various materials also floated around in the space.

Out of the Gu floating there, Zhao Wen recognized one if them, floating together with 4 other rank 3 Gu was a ball containing a grumpy old man supporting himself with a wooden walking stick.

[That is a Primeval elder Gu, considering the frown on its face I assume it is nowhere near filled.]

Moving his attention to the other rank three Gu Zhao Wen tried to identify them but failed, he then turned his attention to the rank 4 Gu floating in the middle of the space.

This Gu looked like a humanoid chimera having the head of a tiger, the torso of a man, arms ending in clawed hands like a raptor, and having mismatched legs one from a goat and the other from a wolf.

Zhao Wen then moved his attention to the last Gu, it was rank 2 and was floating between the rank 4 and rank 3 Gu.

[let's see if I can refine these Gu as easily as this storage Gu, I will start with that rank 2 one.]

Starting to refine the rank 2 Gu a process that was made easy by the fact that the will inside now cooperated, once the rank 2 Gu was refined Zhao Wen learned that it was an information path gu that stored the inheritance of a rank 4 Gu master known as Phantom Fiend.

The Gu worm contained the information on all of the Gu worms inside Phantom Vault Gu, the unknown Gu were in order of rank

Phantom Fiend Gu, is a rank 4 Phantom/Soul Path Gu that turns into a phantom creature/puppet when used, this puppet could be manipulated by the Gu master to attack and defend. It was immaterial and could attack the souls of living creatures and defend against soul attacks.

Following that was Phantom Steps Gu, this rank 3 phantom path Gu was a movement type Gu. It speeds up the user by creating fake/phantom steps.

Then there were the two central Gu of Phantom Path, Turn Phantom Gu and Condense Phantom Gu. Turn Phantom Gu allowed a Gu master to become ethereal becoming virtually untouchable by anything, Condense Phantom Gu on the other hand turned something from phantom form to real. Out of the two Condense Phantom consumed extraordinary more primeval essence.

Finally, there was a rank three amplify effect Gu, its was a rule path Gu that amplified any Gu of any path by three times but increased the primeval essence expenditure.

The Gu also contained recipes, a story about Phantom Fiend's life, and his thoughts on cultivation.

Once Zhao Wen had absorbed the knowledge the rank 2 Gu disappeared, fading out of existence as if it never was there to begin with.

Pondering on the newly received information Zhao Wen was disturbed by a knock on the door,

" Ye Zhao Wen you are hereby summoned by Elder Du, you are to report to him immediately."
