Regular Checkups

In Shang Clan's throne room, nearly all elders of the Shang Clan had presented themselves. The only exception being, the ones out doing important business.

Doctor Su Shou a rank-5 highly respected healing Gu master, spoke first, "Can't we start this meeting now, I've got more important things to do than wasting it on get-togethers." Su Shou has a rather unique position in Shang Clan, technically she's not an elder of the Shang Clan, but rather an outside contractor.

Shang Yan Fei with his head lowered looking at reports, raises his eyes with a bored look, before replying, "The meeting only starts when everyone I invited arrives."

Upon noticing Shang Yan Fei, drop his eyes back down to read the reports, Shang Bu Li, first general of Shang Clan asked, "May I ask if this is related to the new rank-4 Gu master that you recently hired, handing out rocks with primeval stones in them over in the 5th inner city?"

Wei Yang standing guard at the doors, corrected him, "The rocks are laced with primeval shards, not primeval stones. And yes, this meeting is placed for him."

Wan Qian Shan in charge of resource gathering, scoffed, "Late for his first meeting, the leader is going to eat him alive."

Doctor Su Shou with a confused look on their face, asked, "Hold up, there's a new rank-4 Gu master being added to Shang Clan?"

Wan Qian Shan rolled his eyes, "I'm aware the only reason you work at Shang Clan is because our clan leader is considered the most handsome man in southern border, but are you really only interested in people if they're pretty?"

Normally this type of talk in front of Shang Yan Fei would be met with punishment, however, lately, he's been in quite a good mood.

Instead of replying to Wan Qian Shan's comment, Su Shou with a seductive undertone turned her gaze over to Shang Yan Fei, evoking a reaction of Wan Qian Shan grinding his teeth, "Forget I even asked."

At that moment the doors to the throne room opened to reveal a man, stout in figure with eyes similar to that of a hawk, which he used to carefully analyze everyone in the room as if he were a predator looking for prey.

Upon making it five feet away from the door, he gave a light bow, "Greetings to Shang Yan Fei, leader of the Shang Clan, might I know the reason I was invited to such an auspicious gathering." He stated, before turning his gaze to Su Shou, who had been moving her eyes up and down his body, like a rabbit in heat.

Shang Yan Fei rose his head, acknowledging that everyone was present, "First take a seat, oh and Su Shou it's rude to stare at others with such lust."

Su Shou smirked, before replying, "If you had told me such a fine specimen had come to the Shang Clan sooner, I would have saved you the trouble of having to introduce him to everyone else."

Upon taking his seat, Xie Ling was introduced to everyone by Shang Yan Fei, "This is Xie Ling, he is what's known as a... psychiatrist. His job is to give everyone here regular checkups to ensure that they are mentally healthy."

Both Shang Yan Fei and Xie Ling had talked about doing this beforehand. First, they wanted to test if it would work to send them Gu that contained his will, however, that proved to be too ineffective, as the Gu couldn't contain enough will to put an evident or even long-lasting effect on them.

While nodding his head at Shang Yan Fei's introduction, Xie Ling added, "It's proven that a productive mind leads to a productive life."

Everyone could feel a tinge in their hearts at the end of his statement. The feeling was akin to the times they felt when they were with a good friend or a moment they felt valued.

Due to his time manipulating memories by using 'wills', Xie Ling had discovered a far more effective method of manipulating memories. By pushing his will into the parts of their brains that carried core memories. Of course, this required more will than one or even a hundred bugs could carry. He had thought about creating an army of bugs, however, bugs are weak, and if anyone ever found out they could kill them from a distance within an instant. If only Gu could still absorb primeval essence from the air while under his control, he could then use them like an army.

Su Shou rose from her seat, speaking with words that carried a seductive charm to them, "If it's not a bother, I would like to be the first to receive this 'checkup'.
