"Gu Cultivation is a difficult endeavor, challenging both body and spirit. One must truly dedicate themselves to cultivation and only by working hard can you become truly strong, regardless of talent."

"You all are the future of our clan. Cultivate hard, dedicating yourselves fully for the good of both your friends and family"

The elder spoke as he slowly scanned the room, standing atop a tiny podium in an ordinary classroom.

"That is all for my lecture, collect your primeval stone allotment at the booth outside the academy. I will not be explaining the smaller details of gu cultivation, you can explore it on your own under the guidance of your parents"

"Once you have broken through to rank 1 middle stage, you can return to the academy to collect a rank 1 gu worm of your choice"

The elder left the room, signaling the group of young gu masters to follow suit. They slowly walked outside the room, chatting about their future plans.

"What kind of gu master do you wanna be?!"

"A combat gu master obviously!"

"Bah, that much is obvious, I mean what path do you wanna follow?"

"What kind of question is that? I'll follow dark path like the rest of the clan."

"My mom is a healing gu master. Maybe I can learn from her?"

"You seriously wanna sit back in the tents while your friends are fighting in the frontlines?"

"I mean, yeah? That sounds pretty nice"

"C'mon man, you've got B grade talent, you would make a good fighter"

Hei Huan walked quickly, rushing towards the small booth outside the academy, with a small sign on top of it reading:

"Primeval stone collections (for academy students only)"

He simply put his hands out towards the gu master within the booth, receiving a tiny pouch filled with spirit stones. He once again quickly ran off, not wanting to be seen or heard.

"What's he so excited for?" the gu master within the booth thought,

Hei Huan simply continued running, completely ignoring any and all noises and sights, he was seemingly in a state of extreme focus.

He finally reached his destination, the lizard house gu within which he lived. He immediately flung open the door and ran inside the house.

"Time to eat, I suppose...."

Wei Huan slowly walked towards the kitchen, preparing himself a small snack of rice and pork. He walked towards the dining table, seemingly tired and sluggish, completely different from his previous state.

He sat down at the dining table, seeming almost angry or upset. He slowly picked up the chopsticks, attempting to eat a small bite of rice. He brought it up to his mouth and stopped and stared into space, seemingly in deep thought. He stood upwards and walked towards a small trash can, throwing away the rice and pork.

"Should I cultiva-"

Wei Huan stopped that train of thought immediately remembering the words of the academy elder:

"I understand that you all must be happy and excited to begin your journey, however you must never cultivate on your own, regardless of what you think you know, any more experienced gu master knows a thousand times more."

Wei Huan sighed, sitting on the sofa, waiting for his parents. The hands of the clock slowly moved, showing the hours passed.

The door creaked, signaling to Wei Huan that his parents had come back home after completing their typical beast hunt.

Wei Huan immediately got up from the sofa and ran towards the door. Upon seeing his parents faces, he immediately asked:

"Can you teach me to cultivate?"

His father, whom he had asked seemed extremely frazzled. Even with his rank 2 late stage cultivation, he had never encountered this scenario before. He took a deep breath and smiled, saying:

"Alright, let's go to the basement, I'll show you."

His mother smiled, this was one of the first times that her son had actually seeked out his parents ever since he was a young boy.

His father held his forearms, almost dragging him towards the basement. They both soon sat down in a lotus position on the hard floor.

"First and foremost, I must warn you to never cultivate without my presence here." His father said, putting on a more serious expression,

"Cultivation is a dangerous endeavor, even a slight mistake might cripple you. Especially in an attempt to breakthrough"

"Alright" Wei Huan said simply,

"Now, first and foremost, close your eyes and focus."

Wei Huan slowly closed his eyes. Attempting to look onwards and focus, he felt a warmth near his abdomen.

"Do you feel something?" His father asked,

"Mhm" Wei Huan simply hummed,

"Try to move your 'consciousness' into it"

Wei Huan attempted to "look" inside it. He suddenly saw a glass orb with a copper green liquid, almost filling it halfway.

"Do you see your aperture?"

Wei Huan simply nodded wordlessly.

"Move your primeval essence"

Wei Huan "looked" inside his aperture once again. When he tried to force the copper green liquid to move, it didn't budge whatsoever.

"It's not moving" Wei Huan spoke,

"Don't try to force it. Simply 'will' it to move like any other part of your body."

Wei Huan looked inside his aperture. When he attempted to 'will' his primeval essence to move, it flew upwards, causing small waves to ripple through his aperture.

"Is it still not moving?"

"It's moving…"

"Alright, now try to move it with slightly stronger force, making it slam against your aperture walls"

An hour later

Wei Huan walked out of the basement alongside his father. He had finally learned to cultivate.
