48 Fighting the Wild Boar King

On the way to the Wild Boar King Chi Yan encountered various beasts, but apart from a single snow leopard, they were all not very dangerous.

Because of utilizing various Gu worms, including movement Gu, scouting Gu and offensive Gu, Chi Yan had 86% primeval essence when he finally caught up to the charging Wild Boar King.

The Wild Boar King had more than five times the size of an ordinary wild boar, being as large as an elephant. Its body had many medium and small injuries, its tail broken - while it flipped on the run, it revealed its fresh red injuries.

It was clear that the Wild Boar King was attacked by a bunch of beasts which might have also included hundred beast kings.

Chi Yan ran behind the Wild Boar King, chasing, with electricity running all over his legs. He conjured a single fireball in his right hand, using Rank 2 Fire Pellet Gu, and then sent it at the Wild Boar King's rear.

The frenzied boar king wasn't looking behind itself as it ran and the fireball, with the power significantly higher than that of Rank 2 Gu, hit one of its buttcheeks. Unfortunately a brief moment before it struck the Wild Boar King's body, a gray rock-like protrusion appeared on its butt's boar skin and the fireball ended up hitting the rock.

After the fireball dissipated, the rock area disappeared and revealed the Wild Boar King's hairy ham that Chi Yan originally targeted, having no injuries.

At the same time, Chi Yan's attack caused the Wild Boar King to turn its attention to him. It turned its head backwards, snorted and gradually began slowing down its speed in an attempt to turn around.

'It's coming. This Wild Boar King has a defensive Gu. My Rank 2 Fire Pellet Gu didn't cause any damage to it, so it might be a Rank 3 Gu… ' Chi Yan narrowed his eyes.

Using this chance when the boar was still ahead of him - slowing down and being a nice target - Chi Yan sent out a wave of three Rank 2 fireballs again, sending them in a slightly spread out manner

Each Rank 2 fire pellet consumed 2,5% of his primeval essence, three cost 7,5%, so Chi Yan couldn't be reckless with his attacks.

It was a probing move.

All three fireballs struck the Wild Boar King's rear in different locations - one on its left butt cheek, one on its right thigh and one on its back.

Sensing the dangerous energy coming, the wild Gu worms on the Wild Boar King's body responded and helped to protect its host. Rock-like protrusion formed on the boar's back, butt and thigh and defended the boar against the three fireballs.

Chi Yan frowned. He sent out Rank 2 fireballs, but it cause no damage again!

If even Old Man Wang could grasp the terrain of the mountain, the various Rank 2 Gu Master teams who were always roaming the Qing Mao Mountain would obviously be more familiar with it. Since the Wild Boar King was not eliminated by them earlier, there had to be a reason.

It turned out that the reason was - it had a Rank 3 defensive Gu!

Chi Yan realized it at that moment.

After that last boar king braked and was turning around, while Chi Yan also had already stopped in his tracks and was preparing his next attack while keeping a distance.

'Let's try this… Fire Arrow Gu, Enlarge Gu!'

Chi Yan extended his right arm and formed his palm into a chopping motion, slightly bent inwardly. A small strand of an orange flame then burst out of his palm that quickly enlarged and began to entangle his palm a few times like a flowing stream of fire.

Following that, Chi Yan placed two fingers of his left hand over his right palm and started stretching out the flame backwards as if he was pulling an arrow on a bow. As a result the orange flame formed into a thin fire arrow that quickly continued to enlarge over the next second.

In the span of maybe two seconds in total, Chi Yan controlled a fire arrow with the length of his arm and the thickness of his wrist. The fire arrow didn't have a clear arrow head like a real steel arrow, but its fiery tip still appeared sharpened.

Meanwhile the Wild Boar King already started approaching, charging faster and faster. Fortunately the boar king's beginning running speed was not the greatest and it rotated slowly, so Chi Yan had enough time to prepare.

Chi Yan held the fire arrow with focus, prepared to strike, while the Wild Boar King charged straight at him with his large snow white tusks just like a mammoth's.

Once the distance was around ten meters, Chi Yan released his arrow.

The arrow of flames shot out with a swoosh sound and in the next moment struck the Wild Boar King's large forehead.

Meanwhile Chi Yan immediately activated Lightning Step Gu right after and jumped to the side to avoid the Wild Boar King's charge. As Chi Yan made some distance and began preparing three fireballs in his right hand, he saw the Wild Boar King crashing to the ground.

Chi Yan raised his right hand and prepared to send his next attack when the wild boar king was turning to hit its side and stomach, however…

After crashing down, the Wild Boar King didn't get up, but dropped to the side as if it couldn't keep its balance, like a dead pig, with the top of its back facing toward Chi Yan.

One second, two second, three seconds…

The elephant-sized boar king was laying on the side and didn't move.

"Eeeeeeh?!" Chi Yan called out, feeling stunned.

It's dead?

He was just preparing for the real fight. The Wild Boar King still had a powerful defensive Gu and probably some other Gu, how could it just suddenly die?!

Chi Yan was stoned for a while more. He then raised his hands with the aim of trying to send a fireball to test the waters before approaching, but then he pulled it back down and didn't attack.

Wild Gu worms have limited intelligence and most have a cowardly nature. Normally after a beast king that they resided in is killed, they would remain in its body for a while longer, pretending to be dead. Only when some time passes or if the beast king's body is still under attack would they begin to flee.

It was basic knowledge taught in the academy.

If Chi Yan right now attacked the Wild Boar King's body when it was actually dead, then it would cause all the wild Gu that were originally residing in its body to fly out and disperse.

So instead, Chi Yan made a circle around the boar king to inspect it. He then found that the front of the boar king's skull had the skin and flesh all melted and charred, along with one eye that was in a particularly bad condition, its eyesocked mostly empty and liquids dripped out of it. There was also a metallic, coppery smell in the air, along with the smell of burnt flesh.

It was obvious that the Wild Boar King was dead, killed by Chi Yan's Fire Arrow Gu.

Fire Arrow Gu at Rank 2 was like the Water Drill Gu. It only had an effective basic range of ten meters and it required time to charge, but of course its penetrating power, heat and speed were impressive, being at the top of Rank 2 Gu and barely any Rank 2 defensive Gu could resist it.

However, even with the help of Rank 1 Enlarge Gu, Chi Yan's Rank 2 Fire Arrow Gu wasn't yet strong enough to break through a Rank 3 defensive Gu - he knew because he sparred with Rank 3 Gu Yue Chi Lian.

'Unless… That Rank 3 defensive Gu was already damaged,' Chi Yan suddenly thought.

The Wild Boar King was in an intensive fight before, obviously, with wounds all over, so any defensive Gu worms residing on its body must have suffered as well, being barely able to use their abilities. Once the attack nearing that of a Rank 3 Gu struck the Wild Boar King's skull, even the Rank 3 defensive Gu wasn't able to protect against it, as it already was on its last breath.

Wild Gu worms use the primeval essence from the atmosphere and cannot run out of primeval essence like Gu Masters, but some of them still had a limit and couldn't be used indefinitely.

The clear examples were the defensive Gu - they could defend against weak attacks nearly indefinitely, but when receiving strong attacks, they had a limit. Especially when they receive powerful blows that are near the limit of what they can defend against, they would get heavily injured. Eventually they wouldn't be able to display their effect or they would risk death on the next activation.

In fact, it was the same with defensive Gu that Gu Masters use.

Therefore it was likely that Wild Boar King was in this situation where the Rank 3 defensive Gu it owned was nearing its limit.

'My Fire Arrow didn't penetrate the Wild Boar King's thick skull though, at best it cracked it, but the primary reason behind such a quick death must be because the heat from the Fire Arrow boiled the Wild Boar King's brain through the eye socket. It's possible that the defensive Gu was on the verge of death and chose to not activate, or it could not protect the Wild Boar King's eye," Chi Yan thought, guessing, as he examined the Wild Boar King's head.

Chi Yan then decided to search the Wild Boar King for Gu worms. With his hand placed on the beast king's head, he scanned the surrounding area with his primeval essence.

Soon, he discovered the first Gu worm and poked it with a trace of his primeval essence.

After being stirred, the wild Gu worm panicked and turned into a black light that shot out of the Wild Boar King's neck area just for Chi Yan to capture it in a water ball right after.

The water ball was around a meter in size and fully entrapped the wild Gu worm inside.

The wild Gu started frantically flying around inside the water ball and after bumping into the walls twice and then began to shoot out sharp thin spikes from all over its body. The Gu aimed to penetrate the water walls of its prison with the spikes, but it produced no result, as the water ball resisted the attacks.

This waterball was the effect of Water Cage Gu which was used especially to capture wild Gu worms, being very effective and popular.

Normally capturing wild Gu worms was not easy. Not only could most of them fly quickly through the air, but many of them would counterattack once caught.

With this Gu being an example, if Chi Yan recklessly caught it with his hand and didn't use Water Cage Gu, then the spikes would have penetrated his palm.

After entrapping the Wild Gu in the water cage, Chi Yan then used another Gu worm and injected dark-green poison into the waterball. A while later, the wild Gu worm that was shooting out spikes all around, seized its fierce attacks and gradually fell asleep.

Even though Chi Yan had the ability to easily refine wild Gu worms with the help of Dream Butterfly Gu's aura, he could not do it, because later he would not be able to explain himself when storing, feeding or trying to sell these Gu.

Because of that Chi Yan had no choice but to borrow special Gu worms from the Chi family's warehouse and catch them in an orthodox manner.

Once Chi Yan caught the Gu worm in his palm, he saw that it was a dark-brown larva with black hair growing all over its body.

'Spike Fur Gu as expected, and it's at Rank 2,' Chi Yan thought as he stored the Gu worm in a tiny square wooden box.

Chi Yan then continued his search while from time to time dealing with the ordinary wild beasts that approached him and the Wild Boar King's body.

The second Gu worm that Chi Yan quickly discovered turned out to be Boar Skin Gu, a rank 2 defensive Gu and a variation of Beast Skin Gu, having the ability to form a thick hairy hide.

Unlike the Spike Fur Gu, the Boar Skin Gu didn't send out any attacks when trapped inside the water cage and only kept bumping into the water walls, desperately trying to escape. Chi Yan subdued this wild Gu quickly just like he did with the Spike Fur Gu.

The Boar Skin Gu worm wasn't in perfect condition like the Spike Fur Gu, but had wounds all over its body and its aura was weak. It seemed that this defensive Gu was nearing its limit.

Chi Yan realized that this Boar Skin Gu must have been residing in the Wild Boar King's neck along with Spike Fur Gu to protect its host's head, and that's also why the boar's neck area had little wounds.

'Spike Fur Gu and Boar Skin Gu compliment each other perfectly and are a dangerous combination, so it's no wonder that the Rank 2 Gu Masters didn't dare to recklessly kill this Wild Boar King in normal conditions, but I haven't yet found the Rank 3 defensive Gu, could it be that it died?' Chi Yan thought as he continued searching, having already stored the Boar Skin Gu in another box.

Fortunately, in just the next moment Chi Yan encountered another Gu worm and it was at Rank 3.

It took much longer for Chi Yan to subdue this wild Gu than the other ones, but it also eventually fell into deep sleep.

At this time a piece of rock rested on top of Chi Yan's palm. The rock was light-gray colored and it was in the shape of a very dull, flat and wide cone.

Chi Yan already saw this Gu worm's ability when it struggled inside the cage and also memorized hundreds and even thousands of various common Gu back in the Academy, so he knew that this Rank 3 Gu was a Rock Lump Gu, a variation of Rock Skin Gu.

The Rock Lump Gu had cracks in a few places of its surface, also seeming to be close to its limit like the Boar Skin Gu, but its vitality was more vigorous than that of Boar Skin Gu.

'As I thought, the Wild Boar King's defensive Gu worm was a Rock Skin type. What poor luck, earlier I didn't see clearly when attacking, but it's actually Rock Lump Gu. Although this Rock Lump Gu is a Rank 3 Gu, its value is quite low, being at the level of some Rank 2 Gu worms,' Chi Yan thought as he observed the Gu worm.

The Rock Lump Gu had a very powerful defense among Rank 3 Gu, but it had one major weakness. Its ability is to produce several large lumps of rock on the user's skin to act as defensive shields, but it cannot cover the user's entire body like Rock Skin Gu or Beast Skin Gu.

Rock Lump Gu wasn't the preferred choice of Gu Masters as a defensive Gu, while the concentrated weight of the rock lumps was also cumbersome. Its value was quite low and it was often used as a Rank 3 Gu refinement material.

But Rank 3 Gu was still Rank 3 Gu and was better than nothing, so Chi Yan naturally stored it as well.

Chi Yan then thought of one more thing.

Rock Lump Gu, just like other Rock Skin type Gu, takes a considerable amount of time to display its effect and form the firm rock layer, so he guessed that it could have also been the reason why his Fire Arrow Gu managed to one-shot the Wild Boar King despite the fact that it possessed a Rank 3 defensive Gu worm that was still in a condition to be somewhat used.

At first Chi Yan shot fire pellets at the Wild Boar King's rear while the Wild Boar King was running at a high speed in the same direction, thus there was enough time for the Rock Lump Gu to respond and protect its host. But when Chi Yan shot the Fire Arrow at the wild boar king who was charging straight at him, the Rock Lump Gu might have been simply too slow to form a thick rock layer even if it wanted, and the boar king died with its skull being penetrated.

Because the Rank 3 Rock Lump Gu has a limited area that it can defend, it was also the reason why the Wild Boar King had so many wounds all over its body, having very likely been surrounded by many beasts.

The Boar Skin Gu eventually suffered enough damage that it was no longer usable, while the Rock Lump Gu couldn't defend the entirety of its body, so the powerful Wild Boar King was slowly bullied to its pathetic state and chased away from its territory, becoming easy prey for him to hunt.

Chi Yan deduced all this and then resumed searching for other Gu worms.

What he found next was a Pink Boar Gu and he had mixed feelings toward it.

On the Wild Boar King's body, there would normally be Boar Gu, such as Pink Boar Gu or Flower Boar Gu, and in rare cases Black Boar Gu or White Boar Gu.

Pink Boar Gu was a Rank 1 Gu worm that can temporarily grant the user the strength of a boar. This Gu worm was very popular and cheap, and its price was at around 250 primeval stones.

To Chi Yan's mild disappointment, this Wild Boar King didn't house a Black or White Boar Gu, but Pink Boar Gu still had greater value than Flower Boar Gu whose only ability was to make the user rapidly gain weight, making them fat like a big. Getting this Pink Boar Gu was still not bad.

And after that there were no more Gu worms on the Wild Boar King's body, Chi Yan had collected them all.

Chi Yan recounted his gains, they were: a Rank 3 Rock Lump Gu, a Rank 2 Boar Skin Gu, Rank 2 Spike Fur Gu and a Rank 1 Pink Boar Gu.

None of these Gu worms were rare or very valuable, but their combined worth was still at around three thousand primeval stones. For an average Rank 2 Gu Master it was a great fortune!

These primeval stones were so easily earned that Chi Yan could not complain at all.

And apart from the Gu worms, the Wild Boar King's body itself was also extremely valuable, so Chi Chent then proceeded to slowly dissect his prey.

After finding out that Chi Yan had already left in the morning to train in the wilderness, Chi Shan's group of four hurriedly rushed into the field to find him.

Chi She who was in front of him suddenly said, "Found Chi Yan."

Only half a second later, Chi She said again, this time more specifically, "He's in front, currently squatting near a large-sized wild beast."

"What's the situation?" Chi Shan frowned.

Chi Shan was just recently scolded by Elder Chi Lian for thoughtfully putting Chi Yan in danger, and at this time Chi Yan had already rushed out into a dangerous battlefield on his own. If something actually happened to Chi Yan, it would be terrible!

Not only would Chi Shan likely be blamed for his incompetence, but he also did think well of Chi Yan's prospects and didn't want anything to happen to him for the sake of the clan.

"There's no mistake," Chi She's snake tongue continued to stretch and shrink as he spoke. "Chi Yan's body heat is the highest apart from yours, team leader. And now he's squatting near… a dead Wild Boar King!"

Everyone's expression changed, from the initial worry into shock.

"That Wild Boar King?" Chi Suo raised her brows.

"Other than that one, there is no other one in the vicinity. But how could Chi Yan manage to kill the Wild Boar King?" Chi Dan asked, looking stunned.
