14 Tim the Mimic

Open Legendary Orb? [Yes/No]

I selected yes, and the flood of golden light nearly blinded me as I felt the orb transform. The flash faded, and a book was sitting in the place where the orb had once been. It was another skill, which was more than welcome. Skills always meant more power. I reached out and grabbed the book, causing another notification window to pop up. I was starting to get sick of all the pings, but I knew that it would slow down once things started to pick up. The system could only notify me of so many new things.

Skill Book [Legendary]

Telekinesis

[Casting Time: Instant] [Cooldown: None]

Through sheer force of will, you can influence the physical world with your mind. This skill allows you to move and manipulate objects with your mind. This skill can also be used to exert pressure or impact on objects or creatures, potentially causing damage. The weight of objects and force exerted using this skill are directly proportional to the user's mind stat.

Learn the skill Telekinesis? [Yes/No]

This was one of the best skill books that could drop in any of the five seasons. My mind raced as I thought about how this skill could be used as the perfect counter to Lars Goldman's gravity class. If my mind stat was high enough, I could completely negate all of his gravity-based skills. This was essentially a skill that was comparable to an entire class choice. I selected yes and felt the flow of the system as it upgraded my body, granting me access to telekinesis.

"Status Window."

Now that I finished dealing with all the levels, achievements, and loot, it was about time that I managed my status window once more. I started to distribute my stats a bit more rounded than earlier since I had the room to do it. I wanted to get all of my stats to at least high-tier, which I had more than enough points to do. I looked at my new status window, pleased with the changes I had decided upon.

Everything looked good, so I closed the status window and looked around. Welcome to the Jungle was on loop, and I could hear it still playing back in the direction my fight with the Verdant Leviathan started. I expanded my senses with my newly increased mind stat and was able to sense the location of my Bluetooth speaker and pack. Extending my hand in the direction of my belongings, I tested my new telekinesis skill.

Using telekinesis was different than any other skill I had used in the past. It was as if I could feel every area of an object caught within the force. I felt every inch of my pack and speaker as I pulled them towards me. During the speaker's travel in my direction, I pressed the pause button on the speaker, stopping the music before it reached me.

"This is a fucking good skill."

With my pack and speaker in hand, I called my inventory up. There were twenty empty squares on the blue screen, as well as a weight total at the bottom that currently displayed a zero. I placed the speaker in my pack and then placed the pack into one of the empty spaces.

"And now for the finale. Summon Contract, Greater Mimic."

I extended my hand again, this time to the ground. Magic runes danced about a glowing purple ring that hovered about a foot off the ground. I watched as a small purple disk appeared from within the ring. It floated there for several seconds before both the ring and the disk expanded to about a meter in diameter. Flying out of the disk, as if it were thrown, was a wooden chair that crashed onto the ground next to me. I instinctively dodged to the right and drew my sword, pointing it at the chair.

"Don't tell me… Are you the mimic?"

A pair of eyes appeared on the chair, and its legs started to contort and twist in a way that wood would never be capable of. The chair eventually got to an upright position and looked at me.

A mouth appeared on the seat of the chair. "Don't tell me… Are you the contractor?"

Confused, I responded, "Did you just mimic me?"

"Did I just mimic you?"

"Fuck you."

"No, fuck you!"

Every summon contract I had seen in the past was submissive and almost emotionless. They listened to whoever summoned them and had no thoughts as an individual. It was assumed that the system created these summons for the sole purpose of aiding whoever had a contract with them. This mimic was one of a kind, but even so, I was annoyed and frustrated with the way it was responding to me.

"Aren't you supposed to be helpful to your contractor?"

"Yes, and this is helpful. I'm keeping you humble."

I sighed. "I can tell this isn't going to work out."

If a chair could shrug, that's how I would describe what the mimic did before responding. "Too late, man; I'm here to stay. The name is Tim. What's your name?"

"I'm Ronan. Is your name really Tim? Or are you fucking with me?"

The mimic looked like it was hurt by what I said. "What? A mimic can't be named Tim? What are you, some kind of mimic expert?"

"No, it's just a weird name for a mimic. But to be fair, I don't know much about your kind."

"Well, get used to it, Ron."

I angrily responded, "Don't call me Ron; it's Ronan."

"Fuck you, I'll call you what I want, Ron."
