Leviathan Slayer

I angled my body to fall in the direction of the Verdant Leviathan's mouth. Once I determined that it was ready to fire its energy discharge, I used my sword energy to create a solid platform and kicked off, going straight down. The Verdant Leviathan fired its Godzilla-like beam of concentrated energy at me, and I countered it with a downward slash infused with as much sword energy as I could focus into my machete.

The energy discharge was slowing my fall, but not enough to keep me from reaching the Verdant Leviathan's mouth. The beam of energy it was firing into the sky split in two as I reached the source and completed my downward slash. There was an explosion as our two energies collided. Above, there were clouds that were parted from the beam of energy that I had divided in half. Below, there was a deep cut in the ground that stretched about a kilometer long.

I landed on the ground and looked up at the towering figure of the Verdant Leviathan. Its head was split in half, and its body began to lurch as it eventually fell backwards. A series of system ping sounds rang in my head, and I began to browse through the notifications.

"I was strong, but now I am fucking strong."

There were a few other notifications, but I swiped them all away after skimming through them. I was most interested in the last two notifications. After slaying a monster, there's a chance that the system will reward you with a loot orb, almost like in a video game. The rarer the monster, the greater the likelihood of getting a loot orb. Boss monsters always dropped a loot orb for everyone who contributed to the fight. Your contribution determined the rarity of the reward.

Notification

You have received the Verdant Leviathan Loot Orb [Epic].

Open loot orb? [Yes/No]

I selected yes and watched as the system generated my reward for me. In front of me, three objects appeared, two of which were glowing with a purple light and the last one glowing with a golden light.

"Shit, this is pretty good. Two epics and a legendary. Guess it paid off big time to hunt solo. Let's see what I got…"

The first item was an obsidian sword with a dark red hilt. It was a beautiful weapon that reminded me of the sword I had used near the end of my last life. I checked the description to examine its stats.

Versaga [Epic]

Forged by the ancient inhabitants of the Verdant Abyss, this blade resonates with those who are sharp of mind. Increases skill and ability damage by one rank when fighting enemies with a lower mind stat than the wielder.

+15 mind

Many would consider this weapon to be worthless, but in my experience, I have learned that there are no useless items. With my inflated stats, my sword energy would have no problem cutting into the Verdant Leviathan if I were to fight it again. This would also become a valuable item once I discover what classes I have available at level 10. I examined the next item that was covered in a purple glow and discovered that it was a storage pouch.

Interdimensional Storage Pouch [Epic]

A generic magical item designed to provide a space where the user can store their belongings. The storage pouch has 10 cubic feet of storage within. Things stored in the pouch have no weight until they are removed.

Incorporate Interdimensional Storage Pouch with system? [Yes/No]

The system usually gifts this item to a lot of players early on by increasing its drop rate for anyone who doesn't have it, which is a pretty good thing. It's much easier to bring equipment back and forth between the seasons and home. I selected yes on the system prompt, and the bag disappeared, adding an inventory tab that I could navigate to from my status window. With that over, I turned my attention to the last item that was bathed in a golden light. It was a skill book called Summon Contract.

"Oh shit, this could be really good or absolutely useless. Summon contracts are random. Hopefully I got something good!"

I reached out and grabbed the book. It was not what I expected, but it was at least something that I could use.

Skill Book [Legendary]

Summon Contract: Greater Mimic

[Casting Time: 1 Minute] [Cooldown: 2 Hours]

Summon a Greater Mimic to assist you on your travels. Greater Mimics are interesting creatures that can take the shape of various inanimate objects. The size that the Greater Mimic summon can grow to is directly proportional to the user's vitality stat.

Learn the skill Summon Contract: Greater Mimic? [Yes/No]

I never scored a summon contract in the past, but from what I remembered of them, they scaled with your stats and not with your level. This was because if someone was lucky and got a Summon Contract for a dragon, at level 70 they wouldn't have a pseudo-boss monster kill everything for them. This would definitely work out in my favor, as my stats were well above what my level actually was.

I selected yes and learned the skill. It was either this or I could sell the book for millions of dollars. I already knew that I was going to make that much already with the scales from the Verdant Leviathan, so I wasn't going to be so strapped for cash that I'd pass up on an opportunity like this. Now that the boss loot was dealt with, it was time to view my next prize, the legendary orb that came with the Record Breaker achievement.
